@squirttilithurts i specifically said i used a digital camera so the audio is crap, but i have recently acquired real recording gear, so MAYBE ill do a real demo.
I've got the same head with the matching 4-12 cab. The EQ, Gain, and Presence knobs are kinda tricky to dial up just right. Kicking any of those up past about 7 is really too much. Great all purpose amp with a SIMPLE foot switch. I also run an MXR EQ through my effects loop to scoop the mids for a great metal sound. This is the first amp I've ever had to turn DOWN the gain.
@bakoenig77 LOL about the treble and presence.I think Mesa deliberately made the amp much more trebly than was needed(I love bright amps)just to go to the other extreme.Like the DR Solo was a flub monster this is a ice pick bitch.Mesa's like "Oh so our DR is flubby?" "Well F-U eat treble bitches!!!"
@bakoenig77 - Lately I've just been front endin mine with my Super Overdrive as a booster. I drop the volume and tone knobs a bit on my guitar and it really tightens things up. I'm thinkin about swapping 2 of the V30's in the cab for Celestion 75watt or the Mesa C90 speakers. Great amp. Really versitile.
How you compare differences between Stiletto and Dual Recto?? I'm just curious, because I'm looking for that "in your face" sound with a lot of punch but, I'm looking for the "bass" sound from the recto too.
Rectos are shipped with 6l6's, but on the back of mine it recommends el34's. They say in the manual that although they prefer the el34 in the recto's, they are much more prone to damage and wear than 6l6s, and considering the pushing the tubes will get they feel it makes sense to ship them with 6l6s.
@whatthehellisaplough Hey, where did you get that info? I don't think that's right. Let me know. I just got my dual rectifier's resist. blown 'cause of using EL34s. Or maybe not, but its blown nonetheless.
they are totally different. imo rectos sound like shit. the stiletto is a lot like a Marshall SLP on steroids. recto = harsh and nasally, stiletto = richer, more classic tone. less gain (which is a pro imo) I would take the stiletto any day.
I like the white tolex! Mine is black with the alligator skin face plate. These amps are great amps, go look at Andy Timmons gear setup he makes them sound so good. Nice playing BTW!
That is one sexy amp.

@JJLipton You need to play one before you say that. I have a MKIV and beofre this had a Deuce II. The Deuce was never lacking. I regret trading it.

How much more $ does it cost to have it custom ordered?
tylerdwells 2 years ago
I have the same amp, but mine is the normal black with crock skin. how did you get a white one? did you have to custom order from a dealer?
shreadbringer 2 years ago
i was lucky enough to find it at the dealer i bought it from, but normally if you wanted one in this color you would have to custom order it.
