  • you have to love the 90's!!!!

  • I BE BANGING !!!!!!!

  • Why doesn't Cage do more films such as this? He is one of my favorite actors but he hasn't done anything worthwhile in years....

  • Fantastic book, excellent movie.

  • I've seen the movie several dozen times, it's a classic for EMS. Almost done reading the book, and I'm quite surprised to see how similar it is to the written word. Several of the lines in the movie came from the book as well, and some of those lines made the movie. Thanks to Joe Connelly for enduring himself to those experiences, writing this book that turned into the movie that it did. He's said a lot of the things that we have thought of saying, or if not, we understand why they are said.

  • i read the book i watched the movie ! This is the most underrated movie in the movie history.

  • Best Movie To Watch when Sleep Deprived!

  • Great Book and movie Joe Connelly writes with a dark spiritual feeling.

    Great

  • I still have this wonderful movie on VHS. On the back of the case, their is an image of Cage holding a stethoscope up to the wall, I wonder what he was listening to? I also wonder why that never made it to the final cut..

  • This was the weirdest, trippiest film I've ever seen.

And I love it so much.

  • "Don't make me take off my sunglasses."

that alone makes me wanna see this.

  • Mena Suvari is a porn actress

  • Is this movie any good? Never heard of it untill recently..

  • @tamerswan Yep, I agree with you!

  • DONT MAKE ME TAKE OFF MY SUNGLASSES

  • Is this a comedy or what? The trailer seems a bit on the humorous side

  • don't make me take off my sunglasses :D

  • I.B. Bangin

  • I'm down for cult membership...sign me up...

  • I'm sick, Tom. I need a cure. Vitamin B cocktail, followed by an amp of glucose and a drop of adrenaline. Not as good as beer, but it's all I got.

One of my fav Movie quotes from this film

Also this was so underrated but i agree

EVERYONE LETS GET A CULT FOLLOWING STARTED ASAP

  • what a classy film! scorsese is brilliant, and cage is just astonishingly gooood

  • at 2:18 if you look to your right, The open air between the two buildings shows the image of the empire state building.

  • whats the first music called

  • @mand3lla T.B Sheets by Van Morrison

  • @mand3lla The first music is T. B. sheets from Van Morrison.

Very good movie by the way, excellent but also very sad.

  • I would recommend watching Third Watch! Great Paramedic Movie Series! The full series is on youtube!

  • Brilliant film about the "can do" attitude on the ropes!!!

  • love this film ,this was better than the departed.

  • the last song was "you can't put your arm around a memory"

  • Totally agree with other B.O.D fans here - Misunderstood and underrated, definetley up there with After Hours, King of Comedy, Goodfellas, The Departed for me, as Scorsese's best work.

  • unlike other EMS movies or shows (which there is not many compared to fire and police movies) this is pretty accurate to what working EMS is really about...you have to remember that along with the stabbings, shootings, overdoses and other "exciting calls", there are also alot of bullshit calls that we have to respond to for people who are on medicaid, dont have a job or car, and dont have a primary care physician, and basically want us to give them a ride to the hospital

  • @emt62

Do yo uthink people call the paramedics unless they have to? I am one of those people you mentioned and if I wouldnt have *hitched a ride* with the paramedics I could have died.

  • Relative recommended this movie because I'm an EMT but the movie looks pretty boring, any EMT's on here that like it?

  • @socalfrijolito This isn't a movie about being an EMT. It's a movie about 2 people who discover that sometimes through the worst you can find the best in people(maybe?). One of the 2 people happens to be an EMT. But if you lived in the City in the 90's, this movie is pretty damn accurate on how it could get during some of those really hot nights. But of course Gulianni cleaned all that up for us! LOL!!

  • The Clash + Scorsese = love.

  • DONT MAKE ME TAKE OFF MY SUNGLASSES!

  • A strongly underrated and misunderstood movie

  • Scorsese's one of my favorite directors, but Nicolas Cage???

  • I Heard that this was Scorsese's only worst film, can some one prove it is or isn't?

  • @SilverHammock Not at all. It's a great film. Incredibly underrated.

  • I still don't get what this movie is about.

  • EMS, it has its pros and its cons but I love it.

  • "Don't me take off my sunglassses" sweet line

  • Does anybody know the title of the song starting when Cage's name appears on screen at 1:47?

  • you cant put your arms around a memory by Johnny Thunders

  • "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory"-Johnny Thunders

  • you can put your legs around my face by john lightning

  • Song at 1.37_

"I'm So Bored With the USA"

    Performed by The Clash

  • @ryy79 Song at 0:40

    "Janie Jones"

    Performed by The Clash :)

  • whats the song @ 1:37?

  • OH!!!! Imist thats nigth of Job in EMS, The trouble is that in Mexico it is appreciated that work and badly paid, but I miss those nights, that adrenaline, and why not say so, that edge of madness, but ultimately help save lives, this film is one of my favorites and the music is great

  • this movie is so under rated, it should have a cult following. time to start one...

  • I'm with ya. Let's do this

  • @what342 It seems like stands with After Hours as one of his most overlooked films.

  • @what342

It does have a cult following! The entire crew of the Riverton Ambulance Service! I have hit the point where my partner and I can recite the movie word for word... its something to do on long transfers

  • @what342 I agree. One of Scorese's best. I can't even find it on dvd.

  • @what342 I agree, where do I sign up

  • @what342 among those of us who have survived EMS....it does have a cult following. My paramedic school instructor made us watch it the first day and when it was over he asked if we still wanted to be medics.

  • @ripleybobair what you mean a cult following ?

  • @ripleybobair I got the same thing from my instructor the second day in EMT class.

  • This is my favorite movie of all time!

  • This is a film about the works of mercy. If you weren't brought up a catholic, you might not know them: there are seven corporal works of mercy: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, harbour the harbourless, visit the sick, free the prisoners and bury the dead, and seven spritual works of mercy: instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, admonish sinners, bear wrongs patiently, forgive offences willingly, comfort the afflicted and pray for the living and the dead.

  • You are an evangelical moron. The works of God do not factor into the inner workings of science. The film is secular, praying does not save lives.

  • This film is not secular, nor was its promotional art - for instance, see the poster where Nicholas Cage is looking through A CROSS, because (a) he plays a paramedic, but also (b) because of the Catholic themes that quietly run under the surface of the story.

If you're still not convinced of it, remind yourself of the final image of the film - Nicholas Cage lying in the arms of a character called MARY. It is deliberately shot that way to evoke the Pietà.

  • Nicholas Cage's character may also be named Frank after St Francis of Assisi - my theory anyway. Martin Scorsese likes Assisi a lot. And how can you expect this film to be truly secular when the director is so Catholic?

We also find out that Frank was once called Father Frank, because he saved so many lives. He later carries out a MERCY killing of Mary's father.

One last thing - the use of the song 'Red Wine' - Catholic, blood of Christ.

FYI, I am neither evangelical nor a moron. Just fact.

  • No, Cage's character is named Frank, because the movie is based on the book of the same name, written by NYC paramedic Joe Connelly. I am a retired NYC paramedic. I haven't seen the movie, and not sure I ever will. I spent 22 years in EMS, worked Bed-Stuy for 10 years, 87-97. There are still ghosts and demons from my time that lurk.

Stop looking for things that aren't there. The answers are more simple than you may think.

  • This looks amazing, i need to see this film, Nicholas Cage looks like he delivers big time, looks like one of his best performances!

  • I think this is possibly my favourite Nic Cage movie.

  • Fantastic/Brilliant movie. Nicolas Cage does his best performance to date, and his paramedic buddies and the people he encounters are all very well portrayed. John Goodman is a fat, sweaty but likable paramedic, Tom Sizemore is a psychotic ambulance driver who has his very own view of the job, Ving Rhames is a delivered Christian who takes the job as an opportunity to save souls, Mark Anthony is an interesting street weirdo, and Patricia Arquette is a weary woman who loses her father

  • Bringing Out The Dead ,Las Vegas Parano,Natural born killer ,Pulp Fiction,Clockwork Orange and more more more ;)

  • What's the song that plays in the beginning of this song?

  • I think it's "T.B Sheets" by Van Morrison.

  • great movie, solid performances & funny as fuck!

  • When you see the ghosts, you know that you're burnt crispy. Time to take a break. Most times you can come back sometimes not.

  • i work the overnights in manhattan and this is how some of my nights used to go at times.....i love this movie.everyone should see this and maybe EMS will catch a break

  • great movie, trippy as hell, but great movie

  • Criminally underrated film

  • Bring back I.B. Bangin', lord!

  • Dont Make Me Take Off My Sun Glasses!!!

    DIE DIE DIE! CRASH CRASH!

    ONE AWSOME FILM!

    Were can I Download it??

    Cheers!

  • JOAN STEPHANIE

  • this movie tripped me ouuuut!

my dreams were a trip. any body else trip out??

  • Don't make me take off my sunglasses.

  • I loved this one. One of the better Scorsese pictures

  • The guy who wrote the book taught me to be a medic. LOL. Joe's a genious, learning under him was an unforgettable expeiriance. Scrosesi's a great directer too; Taxi Driver and Full mettel are some of my favorite movies, but the book is beyond belief. I recoment anyone to pick up a copy. Joe put's these little stories between chapters that leave you laughing and crying. I remember pulling into St. Vincent's hospital one day with Joe and his partner. We had a dif breather. It was straight foward.

  • lol Scorsese didn't direct Full Metal Jacket, that was Kubrick

  • We treated her for asthma, she had a heart history. After the call Joe asked me why I didn't think the call was cardiac related. I explained to him my thinking, he nodded in agreament and said I'd make a good medic. There was silence. . . a woman started screaming. "Get that out of me, Call my husband! What is wrong with you people?!" Joe looked at me and asked "and that would be the sound of?" I replied "A foli Joe?"

    "Yes sir. . . a foli."

Bless you Joe where ever you are, hope your well.

  • very good book! very good movie ! of a close look at EMS.

  • i like this movie i thank martin scorsese

  • Bravo Six, be advised, we're gonna come in low from the south across the river. Recommend you haul ass to LZ Foxtrot at the base of the hill. Out.
