About 29 seconds into this trailer there is part of a scene with Abel Sunday where he says "my son is a healer and a vessel for the holy spirit" but this wasn't in the final version of the film - at least, not the version I have. Does anyone know if there are different versions of the film that have been released?
I've read the interpretation of the plot as such: Plainview represents pure capitalism, with his raw lust for power. His main opponent, Eli Sunday, represents religion. Both ideologies compete for the heart of America; both are, in several fundamental ways, corrupt methods of manipulating the weak. By the end of the film we know which is victorious.
I understand this can be a good movie from an artistic stand point, but where does the movie start to become entertaining? Clearly I do not understand movie reviews if this can pass for entertaining. So tell me do movie reviews give ratings based on entertainment value or artistic vaule, because I could not even give this movie 1 star for entertaining. I have also been told that this was exiting, but I may have blacked out during those times.
cool, continue to watch your mindless action summer flicks. if you couldn't find entertainment in the amazing acting in this movie, theres really no hope for you
@jeremyp371 Thanks I didn't relize my form of entertainment wasn't up to your standards. And to me acting is with less than shit if thats all the movie has to offer. It's like putting all those actors in the movie called "Plan 9 from outerspace" and expecting it to be a good movie because the acting was good. So sir I sudgest you go ahead and pull your head out of your ass.
@jeremyp371 I do not see an interesting or even a well written story from my perspective. It is my opinion and i'm entitled to it. Half of you assholes are just plain smug, what was i thinking asking people like you an honest question and expecting a courteous response. sorry to disturb your "vastly superior intellect" surely i am not worthy of such a movie.
@Frillar I read and article by, I think, Peter Travers of Rolling Stone. He wrote that this is the best film of the decade, hands down. I think you're right.
This is about tough immigrants and weak residents, It/s a brilliant lesson in people who think they''re -uh=this is layered, I don't want an expert without shit under his fingers to give me one because ..Houston.] bully/.

If you seriously hate this film, you probably have absolutely no appreciation for "the arts". TWBB was beautifully shot and the scenes are each frame was produced with such precision and perfection, that you can't help but to be in awe. I really feel sad for anybody who is so dull, that they can't appreciate what makes this movie so wonderful.
I know!! The part that got me was when he was banging on the door and it was locked. The scene really showed how weak he really was and how mad, I suppose, Daniel was.

does everything have to be about bush-hating. good god. i look forward to this election if just for the mere fact that you idiots will shut the hell up and stop whining about bush. at least you'll blame someone else for a change.
I'm sorry was I bush-hating? I thought I was commenting on parallels drawn in the movie, I never stated I had a hate on. I think we are in an interesting time politically and this movie reflected it at times. Yikes!
I think this film is commentary on how capitalism is overpowering everything we value in life, and how religion was dominated by greed ( bowling alley scene).
The film focuses on economics so it can't be political commentary
If this is double posting im sorry comp screwed up
Brilliant movie. Daniel Day-Lewis absolutely blew me away. And it draws on a lot of parallels to the political situation the States finds itself with Bush. The son's name is HW, innnteresting. Those similarities aside, it's a great film on it's own. Juxtaposition of the classical horror-sounding music against the turn of the century dusty old west community was fabulous. Loved it!
That's just adding together universal themes to arbitrarily draw any parallel you want. The only similarity between the two is oil. Replace oil with "candy" or with "political power" and you could tie it to Willy Wonka or any politician in the history of the world.

This film will go down in history as a great.
A lot of the films we now consider to be 'the best' weren't received as such at the time of their release. This is one of these films.
10 years time, this film will be considered one of the best. I'm sure of it.

Jesus, you draw parallels like that? Using that (shitty) logic, I can draw a parallel between this movie and the board game "Candyland".

Well you can look at Yorkies post down there and maybe that illustrates it for you a little better. I simply added another reason.
