I can not begin to tell you how much I love that you expose them to Tori Amos and even some of her more unknown stuff. I would love to hear them sing more Tori
Wow, I could not stop the tears from flowing... to hear kids sing this song, and seeing how much it clearly connects with them lyrically, was just... I'm seriously shaking here... just amazing. The piano work is nothing short of gobsmacking... I'm gobsmacked! What an incredible mentor... to share music with kids in this way... not dumbing it down, but treating them with such respect and maturity... a truly breathtaking video.
Why the hell are there dislikes on this video? These kids deliver a BEAUTIFUL cover of a wonderful song. The bald emotion on some of the children's faces makes me cry. What a wonderful group! Big thanks to the one in charge of track choice...
I personally think every music teacher should be a Toriphile. It should be a requirement. Music class would be a hell of a lot more fun. When I was little, I got so sick of singing songs like "Old McDonald" and "London Bridge". I'd never get sick of singing Tori's songs. Yep, I think the future will show us more Toriphile Music Teachers, or atleast, I hope. =)
bravo! c'est juste extrêmement touchant , j'en avais les larmes aux yeux. C'est aussi l'une de mes préférées de Tori Amos (avec Scarlet's walk...). Ils doivent vous être très reconnaissants pour toute cette beauté... well done!
good piano skillz i had my keyboard for like a year and stil mess up while playing chopstix lol....yep...so is that a school in new york because when i was in elementary i went to a simmillar looking shcool i could tell bade on all the videos i watched
Those harmonies are amazing. What a talented group of kids. I love the original Tori Amos version but this just gives the song a whole new dimension, a childlike innocence. I reckon it would sound awesome on a soundtrack to a childrens animated film. :-)
Clicked on this site expecting to see Wagner.' Flying Dutchman". Can someone tell me more about these kids? Where are they from and what program are they in.
You've done such a great job with these children! Talk about inspiring a new generation, getting them to pick up instruments and expand their horizons... There should definitely be more music teachers like you.
This really touched my heart. I am so ecstatic that you as a teacher have so monumentally impacted the lives of so many children with your encouragement, inspiration, and instruction. It's absolutely wonderful what you're doing, you've infected every one of them here with such enthusiasm.
My God... whatever you do, just NEVER stop inspiring these kids with whatever you got. Simply outstanding what you're doing with these kids. As they will never forget these moments, even if they forget the lyrics. Even if they cant quite get the harmonies right... in 20 years, they will fondly remember this magical time. My God... thank you. I'm so inspired to record tonight! thanks :-)
I love these children. I always feel emotional when I see all these beautiful children of different races and backgrounds singing so beautifully together.
you can tell that they always look forward to practice after school....
Those of you with talents out there... take note. You have a lot to offer to kids like these. Be a mentor. It doesn't take much, just a few hours a week. You'll be glad you did.
I LOOOVE Flying Dutchman, and these kids do it sooo beautifully.
I would love to see the original ending, and having the teacher split them up into 3 groups and having one group singing the "They can't see, they can't see oh you know, you know (you're jumping from a high jump??)...hide your head, hide your head......cos they can't see"
and "they can't see, what I find out, well, they can't see and I just loose myself." and "oooooaaaaahhhh oooahhhh"
This is one of my favourite songs. These kids did a wonderful job.Looking at all their beautiful little faces.....makes me happy.Coolest teacher ever, wish I had had teachers like that.;)
I just wanted to say what you do with these kids is amazing and admirable. I love the Tori covers. I wish I had a teacher when I was younger to open my mind to music like this. Simply beautiful.

i watch this a least once a day. i love this song and they sing is so well. i think a song by Sufjan Stevens would be amazing for them to sing! Its a suggestion :) keep up the amazing work!
My goodness.....this is INCREDIBLE! I've never seen kids get so into the music, either. You can really see that they all LOVE this! At my school, everyone sings halfheartedly at best. I'm truly awed.
This is absolutely amazing and so incredibly inspiring. Watching and hearing these kids perform makes me feel this is what music is really about. It also makes me wish every kid in the world could be a part of your chorus and have this beautiful experience. I even wish it could be me :) You're an exceptional teacher.
I rarely say this.. Tori came into my life at just the right time also. I had been a fan before hand. But soon after I was a fan, I was a victim of a serious violent crime that took years to recover from. Flying Dutchman was one of those songs I listened to often that meant the world to me. As anyone knows, people are largely sympathetic immediately after a crime.. as time passes, it's just you. Listening to this reminded me of that time and how important music is to all of us. Thank you.
tori's music is healing and i hope it's helped you and continues to help you through the difficult times. thank *you* for sharing your experience, it inspires me to think that the kids' performance moved you so deeply.
Merci beaucoup pour ce vidéo. Tori has been, for years, one of my favorite performer and artist and she came to my life at a time i needed her so much; i truly believe music in general and Tori's music in particular can do wonders for a troubled mind and can inspires a lot of beautiful things. I was delighted to find this video, even more amazed at the job youre doing with these kids. This is a wonderful example of what music can mean. Like breakfast all say, this sure could save the world.
i turn on the news and see so many messed up people killing and robbing and i know it's because no one cared about them and invested in them when they were younger to show them they are important.
its great to see you being that hope many of these kids probably wouldn't have ever seen.
This is the most beautiful, incredible, just plain amazing group of young people I've seen! Watching this has really increased the quality of my life, in no exaggeration and it looks as though you have increased theirs. So inspirational, so mind-blowing... you, sir have given the world a gift. I thank you for it.
I watched this video and it touched me so much that i couldn help to watched them all....THis thing you do is just amazing..be sure you are changing this kids lifes.. JUst beautiful..for me..at least..you are doing the two things i love most...working with kids and music..congrats from peru southamerica!!!..and sorry about my english... i speak spanish)(
This is so beautiful. Goosebumps everywhere. The 'cause they can't see' part made my cry. This chorus is amazing and I think it's amazing they got to meet Tori and sing with her!
Thank you so much. It is so astoundingly wonderful and rare to witness this sort of creativity and inspiration, especially in the school system. This is something these children will always have, and as a Tori fan, I always love to see her audience expand. What a great medium in which to do it.
Ive been watching your kids's videos for years. I love the tori songs! God I wish I could get my 9 year olds to remember more songs than Big Wheel and The Power of Orange Knickers. They sound great!
This is so beautiful! It is truly inspiring that you have taught those children to let their souls speak by singing with meaning and honesty. This fills my heart with joy. Thank you!
The world needs more amazing music teachers like Gregg. Look at the expressions on the students' faces! They are in 7th Heaven! It is a beautiful, awe-inspiring performance. Mad props to all of you!
Absolutely incredible! I have listened to this many times and each time I am amazed. You have an incredibly talented group and your music is very inspiring. Keep entertaining us!
this is just what I needed .I must not teach English it's been a mess I think i can inspire but i really love music andi can play and I know I need to get a music degree and have a choir in a school. I like kids but it's been hell.
Beautiful! Truly beautiful! This has reminded me of what I feel and believe(even if that sounds strange). The PS22 choir sounds reach into my mind, body and soul. Keep on doing what you do. Much respect.
Greg, you are an inspiration to teachers everywhere. I have watched several of your Tori covers and each time you bring tears to my eyes. You and your student's passion and talent are obvious--I look forward to your next video! Thank you for reminding me why I love teaching and Tori!
Wonderful! I'd love to put a note in the "More Info" section on the Flying Dutchman piano vid I uploaded a while back. Something like "Everyone needs to check out the PS22 chorus doing this song! (link)." That okay with you?
Hey Greg, how do the kids learn it. Do they just listen the song over and over (like fans of her music) or do they learn it from sheet music? I mean, I know this song from years of listening to it. They would have - presumably had - maximum a few weeks or months! Are they all Tori fans!?! Are you creating new armies of Tori fans!?! :D Woo!
I've been involved in music my whole life, and I can honestly say this is possibly the most moved I have ever been by a performance. Those kids will remember that music teacher for the rest of their lives. I hope he knows that.
The 'Flying Dutchman' was a a ship from the VOC (Vereenigd Oost-Indische Compagnie - the Dutch East Indian Trading Company) which was build in the harbor of Amsterdam.
It's captain is rumoured to be Willem van der Decken.
Some say the ship was build in Terneuzen, Zeeland (a Dutch provence)
That song, sung by kids...
Congrats and blessings. I love Tori's version and I love this one. It gave me a new perspective of the lyrics. Thanks a lot!

Thank you!

This is probably the most amazing children's choir i've ever heard.
You need to make CDs and sell them. I am pretty sure they would sell like crazy. I know if there was a copy of this I would buy it in an instant.

:D Woo!

i thought the flying dutchman was davey jones' ship...lol
dextersmom18 3 years ago
The 'Flying Dutchman' was a a ship from the VOC (Vereenigd Oost-Indische Compagnie - the Dutch East Indian Trading Company) which was build in the harbor of Amsterdam.
It's captain is rumoured to be Willem van der Decken.
Some say the ship was build in Terneuzen, Zeeland (a Dutch provence)
