The iron duke of starbeam centre knew no fear. The streets were littered with abandoned hovercars, most of which had been commissioned as hog fodder In the agrarian wester pods as an after thought. Decimator guns were sought by alien hybrid and neo caster sergeants on velvet coated horses.
Only the hardiest sumpot gatherers refrained from shooting looters from the nebular region.
@MrTechnoman999 - Interesting question! I think every committed steampunk is either working on a book or seriously considering it and I am no different. That said, this particular prop was not inspired by any written publication, just my fanciful imagination and the pile of parts in front of me at the time.
@MrEdster1919 - LOL, not nearly as much as I would like to have. 30 videos in the space of two years is not a huge investment of time. One makes time for the things one enjoys.
@kylecan210 - no hair dryers were harmed in the creation of this prop. :) The base is a Nerf Dart Tag toy gun. I added the finishes, the faux vacuum tubes, the handmade gauge, and I removed the pump handle top make room for the vacuum tube plate. Even the rear vents are original Nerf.
@ncscmassive - Thank you for your thought provoking and insightful comment. I am hopeful that your eloquence will only increase as you reach puberty. Best of luck to you.
This is very good concept art, the basis for any technology, you always start with an engineering drawing. Now just research the technology, harvest information. Actually coming up with the idea, is half the plan.
I find it interesting that few people read the description or comments. This is a steampunk prop. Search steampunk here or wikipedia and you will find a large, educated community totally in to Victorian era science fiction. Broaden your horizons beyond the video game screens!
@codymannthedestroyer - LOL, I sanded, filed, and even mauled it with a soldering iron. It kept showing up through the paint. It is not really visible in real life, the camera seems to bring it out.
@enganear lol that's a often modded Nerf gun, the maverick. I did this years ago.. had the same issue with the logo. I ended up making a brass plate to affix over the spot. Engraved it myself. Although I like your overall design more.
@wootimfunnierthanyou Im guessing its because he couldn't find a REAL martian gun of course. Why give up when you can make it yourself?
Really, why complicate such a simple concept? The ones I find really "wrong with their heads" are the ones who dis or hate on the ones who create art. Without the artistic talents of prop makers, you wont have movies. Think on that, little one.
so wait, it's not really from the martian slug invasion? and to think I was interested as a collector of memorabilia from that period of history. I suppose I'll have to keep looking so I can complete my set
@rudebwoyiceman - Well of course it is. Did you figure that out all by yourself or did you get a 12 year old to help you? It is a steampunk prop for use at steampunk events and sci-fi conventions. The "pressure thing" is a faux gauge I crafted from a PVC pipe cap with a polycarbonate lens and a face printed from a CAD program.
why dotn we have real weponry like this in real life.... oh wait we do haarp lazer artilalry systems... used in ww2 ther elike orbital air strikes with the power of 4 horoshimu atomic bombs... the army still uses them today to blast meteorites but last time they used it it maked the hati earth quake :l
@enganear EPIIIIIC!....Yet...Making my NERF Maverick semi-auto with compressed air, then putting the compressed air thing in a steampunk backpack thing...Sounds way more awesome.
@jochemlol You would be better off using the Nerf Rapid Fire 20 for your purposes than the Maverick. The RF20 has automatic mode built in and runs on compressed air, just needs a more substantial reservoir for compressed air. This could be done with paintball parts suitably steampunked for a very cool package. Converting a Maverick to full auto would require a machine shop and much time. There is little room inside there. Thanks for your comments!
@jochemlol - It does not need the pump if you have a backpack reservoir. It could be full automatic for 20 shots. I plan to steampunk mine one of these days... I think it has lots of potential.
@Darthmagnet -- LOL! I have had electrical engineers ask me the same question. I actually re-purpose used headlight bulbs that my local Advance Auto saves for me. I carefully remove them from their bases and remount them. For some applications I light them from the bottom with LEDs. Thanks for watching, subscribe to be notified of future submissions, much more on the way!
@Darthmagnet - Cool, I subbed your channel and look forward to your post. I cringe whenever I see a real vacuum tube sacrificed on the steampunk alter. Some people cut down cigar tubes for this. I will be showing my gadgets at the Steampunk Exhibition that is part of Dragoncon 2010.

To all those people who keep saying "omg it's a nerf gun"...
What gave it away for you? The big NERF logo or the fact it looks like a nerf gun?
Of course this is a nerf gun. It's a REPAINT. One of a SERIES of nerf gun REPAINTS.
You are NOT a genius if you manage to work out that this PROP is based on a toy.
