Hey hickock-how about something like this with an original kp 31 subgun? Of course you'd have to get a white snowsuit and cross country skis to complete the imagery of a Finnish soldier in 1939-1940.
your camera man is a real trooper, you should buy him a 12 pak. if it is your son that you shaved his head you should buy him a 20 pak, as a rookie shooter your vids have served me well. thanks for all the education, appreciate it very much.
Hey what ammo do you use in your M1 Garand...I have heard that running modern .30-06 ammo can damage an M1 Garand operating rod or something because it burns to slow, so I was just wondering about the ammo thing and what problems have you run into with M1 Garand in the years you have owned M1's.
@Maincodeman i got an M1 garand the only ammo that the weapon is rated for is 150 grain M2 ball round anything less or more could cause the weapon to fail to operate or casue damage to the operating rod, spring, there are a lot of websites that sell M1 garand ammo i wouldnt recommend using any HOT rounds or modern ammo unless it says safe to use in M1 garand
Hickok, I think I remember you saying you fought in WWII in a video of yours. I may be completely mistaken, and I have a feeling I am, but I just want to know for sure. Did you?
You sure take playing soldier to a whole new level :) but then again the only difference between young boys and old boys is the price tag on thier toys
@lovenleo, That's right. I can recall playing soldier with tobacco sticks when I was a youngster. An original Garand that was used in WWII is a slight upgrade for my "playtime." :-)
I have a National Match Garand, that was passed to me before my father passed last April, it's the gun that won the war in europe just about, though it had one draw back, I've had family on both sides of the war in europe, the Germans would wait for that "Ping" before sticking their heads up to shoot back.
Would definately like to see a Video on the FG42 or the G43
@Shinigamiusmc But after soldiers caught on to the germas popping up after they heard the ping, our soldiers would take an empty clip and throw it against something hard to make the same sound and wait for the germans to pop up lol
@Shinigamiusmc What soldiers would do once they learned that, is carry a spare empty clip in their pocket, drop it on the ground, then be ready to fire once it pinged.
Did you ever buy any prints from the B.O.B.? Ive got a couple w/ those great men's signatures. Anyway, let me know what you think of my M1 vid' in a indoor range, the blast flash is awesome!
As a mil history fan/firearms instructor, I'd like to say thank you. I miss my old Garand and will have to get one again sometime. You are very lucky to be able to set up a 'field-rifleman' patrol simulation! For those who don't think 150 gr FMJBT 30-06 is not accurate. I did this the other weekend...and am still doing it consistently :)
I want to live in America. The gun laws in England are very bad. You're not allowed any handguns, ANYTHING semi or fully automatic. You're only allowed rifles and shotguns, they have to be pump action, double barrelled or lever action. You also need a licence, 5 or more people to prove you can be responsible to own a firearm, and you have to keep your gun and ammunition in separate rooms for "safety" reasons. There's no freedom.
@TheBlackStar999 The United States is also a republic, not a democracy. Accurately defined, a democracy is a form of government in which the people decide policy matters directly--through town hall meetings or by voting on ballot initiatives and referendums. A republic, on the other hand, is a system in which the people choose representatives who, in turn, make policy decisions on their behalf.
Nice Video, I like what you said at the end, we owe it all to those who were there. Wish I had the land you have to shoot in. If I tried that 'At Home' in my backyard my neighbors would not take kindly to it.
I am Proud that you took the step to reinact the "Hell" that these guys went through in WWII. Your Dad and my Grandfather fought through Bastogne and Luxembourg. My Grandfather died fighting the Germans in Ettelbruck and is buried in Luxembourg. He died on Dec 23, 1944 after many days of fighting. My Grandfather fought with guys like your Dad and captured over 148 SS Troops the day he was killed. I respect what you do. Keep teaching!!

Hickok your videos rock, I had 3 great Uncles serve in France with the OSS and 45th Infantry Division. I am sure they used the M1 Garand to remove some Nazi resistance.
i absolutely love your videos hickok, i've been shooting all my life and i am a gun collector, i don't have too many yet but i just turned 20 so i'm kinda limited right now lol
I'm sorry if you have answered this before but i have not come across this question being addressed in your videos yet. Did you serve in the military?
Very nice video and use of the Garand. Like you said it is a part of our History and it is cool to see your using it along with the 1911. Great video!
One of the things you can't really grasp on video is how loud these guns are. I've had the displeasure of hearing a .30-06 with my naked ears once, and I'll never do it again. Hard to imagine what it's like to shoot thousands upon thousands of rounds through an M1 with no ear protection. But thats what WWII soldiers did in training and combat.

I love the sound of the M1 and 1911.. Both remind me of thunder that is suddenly upon u and i believe that is part of the appeal of both guns and rounds that they fire :))..
You've got a great spot of land out there Hickock. A lot of guys have to go wait in line at the indoor shooting range just to make some noise. I'm one of them, and I'm envious! We grew up on a lot of land, but unfortunately, that's a lifetime ago. Maybe I can model my retirement after yours!
Hickock, I've never seen you miss so many targets in one video! Looks like you had more than one cold beverage! LOL Thanks for the vid. Love that rifle!
Beautiful, that is the only word for this video. Thank you Hickok45 and thanks to my Dad and other brave men for the opportunity to live free. My dad taught us to shoot on his M1 Garand, I will always love the sound of the 8 shot mag as it flies from the bolt. Now this video is a true history lesson.
@hickok45 I was wondering if i could get some advice from you. I am planning on buying a glock, and was wondering if i should get the glock 22 40 S&W or the glock 21 45 acp? It will be the first pistol i will own, so i was just asking for a little help on my decision. Thanks and I love your videos and radio show keep them coming. thanks.
My great uncle fought at The Battle of the Bulge Hickok.. as well as Korea in really miserable conditions, lost two toes from frost bite.. he carried that garand too and i know it served him well :) Thank you for a great video !
@hickok45 yep, i agree, The Pacific was very weak comparing to the Band of Brothers. i have watched the band of brothers over a dozen of times, have them on DVD in a collectable metal case. amazing series...
@Skiier2008, I actually missed an episode or two as I lost interest. It just didn't have the quality casting or story lines of Band of Brothers. It seemed to drag and didn't really pull me in at all, and I'm not someone who has to have lots of car chases and junk to enjoy a movie. It wasn't horrible or anything; it just was about half of Band of Brothers, in my opinion.
i didnt like the first few episodes but whenever sledge came in and the show became based off the book "With The Old Breed" it became much darker and in my opinion better. all the roles from that point on were very well acted in my opinion.
@hickok45 A lot of that comes from how lucky the directors were to have direct first hand accounts from everyone of easy. They were able to get the stories from basic all the way to bastogne and beyond. With The Pacific, they only really had what the 3 main characters wrote in their books during the actual war.
@hickok45 Well, the Pacific, was, indeed, too heavily focus on "mind power" stuff. It was great, but it hits moral, and it was kinda underated by some of the fellas.
@hickok45 i love both shows, i love the pacific a little more but thats probably because im joining the marine corps though so i have a biased opinion i guess
oh how i envy you. i found out i would get PDQ with no waivers authorized if i tried to enlist. because of something i was diagnosed with at age 2 and has given me no problems since.
@hickok45 The pacific i thought was good in its own way, but i agree with it being a tough act to follow. I have read the band of brothers book, and am starting to work my way through the books that the pacific was based on, and i have to say that the Pacific was very much edited compared to the books......
@hickok45 Yeah, it wasn't as good, but still very informative on the struggles of soldiers who didn't fight in the relatively good conditions of europe, but had to go without ladies and good booze in complete shit jungle. The fact of that makes them harder to identify with, but there's a reason for that, we can't imagine going through this. as you said, it was a tough act to follow b
my American great grandpas brother was in thew Philippines when he shipped in the ship he was on split in two to and he had to swim ashore .
My German grandpa was in the HJ he was 14 when the war ended thank goodness he never saw any action. But he lost 2 brothers in Russia iirc. And then another brother after the war in a motorbike accident :(
"I'll never forget......watching that DVD of Band of Brothers." LMAO!!
Hey Hickok, do you reload .30-06 for your Garand or shoot factory ammo? I've read a lot of modern .30-06 is too hot for the Garands and can damage them if used excessively. What's your opinion on this?
Yes Hickok you were there at Bastone you look great for your age btw....... Just kidding I really don't want to go to a gun show to get a Garand I saw something on American Rifleman about a CMP program out of Arkansas they provide the rifles I have to look into them.
The trees in Bastogne were planted in organized rows, so you could see from one end to the other, and this forest looks nothing like it. I normally like your videos, but this one is lame.
@Breakneckhydra1 My point is that it looks nothing like Bastogne, so how can it 'remind me of Bastogne'? I do like his shooting videos in general, just not this one.

It will be the first pistol i will own, so i was just asking for a little help on my decision. Thanks and I love your videos and radio show keep them coming. thanks.

I got both Band of Brothers and The Pacific, every show. seen most of them many times.
Hinrik91 1 year ago 3
@Hinrik91 , I was fairly disappointed in The Pacific; didn't think it was even close to Band of Brothers. Tough act to follow, I guess.
hickok45 1 year ago 19
@hickok45 yep, i agree, The Pacific was very weak comparing to the Band of Brothers. i have watched the band of brothers over a dozen of times, have them on DVD in a collectable metal case. amazing series...

@hickok45
Hickock, what exactly didn't you like about the Pacific?
Skiier2008 1 year ago
@Skiier2008, I actually missed an episode or two as I lost interest. It just didn't have the quality casting or story lines of Band of Brothers. It seemed to drag and didn't really pull me in at all, and I'm not someone who has to have lots of car chases and junk to enjoy a movie. It wasn't horrible or anything; it just was about half of Band of Brothers, in my opinion.
hickok45 1 year ago 14
@hickok45
i didnt like the first few episodes but whenever sledge came in and the show became based off the book "With The Old Breed" it became much darker and in my opinion better. all the roles from that point on were very well acted in my opinion.
wootfortoot 1 year ago
@hickok45 A lot of that comes from how lucky the directors were to have direct first hand accounts from everyone of easy. They were able to get the stories from basic all the way to bastogne and beyond. With The Pacific, they only really had what the 3 main characters wrote in their books during the actual war.
foist101 1 year ago
@hickok45 I agree. I saw the frst 4 and it did not seem to have that great of a background story on the guys.
In BOB they started with them in training camp and then went to combat, but in the Pacific they went straight to combat. WTF?!
redheadedduckhunter 1 year ago
@hickok45 Well, the Pacific, was, indeed, too heavily focus on "mind power" stuff. It was great, but it hits moral, and it was kinda underated by some of the fellas.
Marine17inlove 1 year ago
@hickok45 Much agreed! Band Of Brothers was MUCH better than The Pacific!
stlfd2465 1 year ago
@hickok45 i love both shows, i love the pacific a little more but thats probably because im joining the marine corps though so i have a biased opinion i guess

oh how i envy you. i found out i would get PDQ with no waivers authorized if i tried to enlist. because of something i was diagnosed with at age 2 and has given me no problems since.

@wootfortoot aw man that sucks its been my dream to join the marine corps since i was 10 and follow in my fathers footsteps

@Blackhawk5656
well its a good dream, hope you make it.
wootfortoot 1 year ago
@hickok45 The pacific i thought was good in its own way, but i agree with it being a tough act to follow. I have read the band of brothers book, and am starting to work my way through the books that the pacific was based on, and i have to say that the Pacific was very much edited compared to the books......
TopDogRam 1 year ago
@hickok45 Yeah, it wasn't as good, but still very informative on the struggles of soldiers who didn't fight in the relatively good conditions of europe, but had to go without ladies and good booze in complete shit jungle. The fact of that makes them harder to identify with, but there's a reason for that, we can't imagine going through this. as you said, it was a tough act to follow b
ut i think they did a decent job.
Hinrik91 1 year ago
@hickok45 I agree, Band of Brothers was way better.

It takes some testicular fortitude to face 88mm anti-aircraft guns armed with a Garand
erroneousapostrophe 1 year ago
"I'll never forget......watching that DVD of Band of Brothers." LMAO!!
Hey Hickok, do you reload .30-06 for your Garand or shoot factory ammo? I've read a lot of modern .30-06 is too hot for the Garands and can damage them if used excessively. What's your opinion on this?

TheDecoyDude 1 year ago
Yes Hickok you were there at Bastone you look great for your age btw....... Just kidding I really don't want to go to a gun show to get a Garand I saw something on American Rifleman about a CMP program out of Arkansas they provide the rifles I have to look into them.
harr77 1 year ago
The trees in Bastogne were planted in organized rows, so you could see from one end to the other, and this forest looks nothing like it. I normally like your videos, but this one is lame.
armypxranger 1 year ago
@armypxranger Really? Your going to say its lame because he doesn't want to chop every tree down and plant them in rows for you? Get a life troll.
Breakneckhydra1 1 year ago
@Breakneckhydra1 My point is that it looks nothing like Bastogne, so how can it 'remind me of Bastogne'? I do like his shooting videos in general, just not this one.
armypxranger 1 year ago
@armypxranger its a forest moron. you know..mother nature. not some man made piece tourist attraction...
violentpwn 1 year ago
@violentpwn Thanks for the explanation. Didn't realize it was a forest. Glad there's some pre-teen hiding behind a computer to explain this to me.
