  • They are not good. They are God! With some help from S Rothery!

  • Hogarth: Still the 'new' vocalist for Marillion after 20 odd years. Fish is good, Hogarth is good. Go see them both and enjoy both of them, and get over it.

  • @janhin345 what you posted about Marillion as a description for this song seems to be based only on this song. their other stuff doesn't sound like U2 at all!!

  • i prefer hogarth,my opinion

  • Hogarth is amazing! The best thing to happen to Marillion... end of! H has been in Marillion for 23 years!!! Get over it.

  • It's really this simple with me.

    Fish= shit hot!

    Hogarth=just shit.

  • If you know anything about Marillion they are totally unique, uncompromising musicians that reach out to their fans with their own brand of emotionally charged melodies and riffs. To suggest they are impersonating anyone else is ridiculous.

  • detona marillion...........

  • All I can say after enjoying this band for over 20 years, that I enjoy it all with fish or with Hogarth. U2 has never written near the material this band has, and the musicianship of this band so exceeds that of U2 it's almost laughable for someone to compare the 2 other than the Irish connection.

  • omg! the guitar delay its amazing. I surprise every time i hear it

  • @hastadecirpalabra

    Boo!

    Surprise!!!!!

  • googd¡

  • deze vrouw ben ik ik was in disco de droom van elke man nog steeds ik werd niet echt ouder

  • same old argument innit. marillion is a band of 2 eras, both eras have done no harm in any way shape or form, i love the band and their work from start to present day. fish/ hogey it dont matter, i listen to them all, why, cos they be brilliant , and british. anyway, fantastic place is my fave hogey era, and grendell my fave fish era. grendell, what a mind blowin toon that one is. who needs drugs? marillion, fish hogey steve mark pete ian, you guys amaze me with your blinding talent.

  • It might be a U2 clone, but it's a good one!

  • janhin345, dude, marillion is as good as ever! hogarth is different to fish yeah, which means that marillion is different to how it was before. I'm a big fan of both fish and hogarth. thy're both awesome and as my elementary principal used to say: "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"

  • Marillion without Fish is like a Spaniel without ears

  • simon's cars - cover my eyes!

  • he is just as good as fish :)

  • and this song was from 1989. Since then they have made BRAVE, for example, they have made MARBLES, and THIS STRANGE ENGINE, ARACHNOPHOBIA. There are more MArillion albums with Hogarth than without. They still play a lot of the old stuff live. and their music still is innovative as ever. They made the album this is from when they were briefly on EMI .EMI wanted 'hit' music so they wrote an album's worth of easy songs. They still are good songs. actually

  • @jpirard I think you mean ANORAKnophobia?

  • @bluepepper100 OOPS! yes of course!

  • I prefer Marillion with Hogarth!!!!

  • I always thought Marillion were good instrumentally but with Fish I couldn't stand to listen to their songs.

When Steve Hogarth replaced Fish I began to enjoy the band as a whole and see that they were brilliant (except for Fish that is) all the time.

Steve's vocals are so charged with emotion and are unique.

  • precious song!! wonderful!!

  • Fish or Hog ? only one way to find out ......FIGHT!!!!

  • This is a wierd song anyone know its theme?

  • I love H! I used to listen to Fish when I was a child and...chapeu! but I still love H! and...got to say...not bad at all when H sings "garden party!"

  • Well, I have to confess I love H's voice! On the other hand Fish's songs are best when he performs them himself. However, for me the point is, that even if they're still called Marillion and only the vocalist has changed, the Fish era and H era should be just considered as two separate chapters and actually never compared because they're different enough (at least for me) to be incomparable. There is a third aspect which actually can't be discussed - it's all the matter of personal preferences.

  • I think Its a useless discussion about Fish and Hogarth. I agree about the mystic aurea In the early days, but Steve Hogarth came out with different style of singing and composing songs. I love them and I repeat, Its totally useless this discussion. Let's apreciate the Marillion's music!!!

  • U2?... Man, that chorus/delay sound is pure Rothery.

  • Fish is gone, years ago, get over it...

  • The ending is the only complaint I have with this song.It dont matter I suppose because the song is over.I always thought it was a daft ending though. Its only a small moan about an otherwise great track.

  • This song's ending leaves a bitter taste.

  • It was always going to be different once Fish left.It would have been stupid to try and replace him with someone who was just trying to impersonate him.

Hogarth is a good singer and the band made the right choice to move on in another direction. The music is still good,I prefer the older stuff with Fish but I also like the newer stuff as well.

  • @JackieP1978 that's the best statement I've seen on this ongoing Fish/Hogarth debate yet. Bands change direction even when they don't change singers, like Rush for example. Anything post "Hold your fire" just isn't Rush to me and I just don't listen to it. I suppose some people could say the same about Marillion after Clutching at straws. Not me however, I think they are just as good with Hogarth and I love marillion with both singers. Did any of that make any sense? answers on a postcard lolol

  • If we take a look at what happened after Fish left then we can appreciate what both vocalists brought to the progression of a great band in all aspects. When fish was there we had mesmerising music, prog rock, music that flowed into the next track,ok it was alittle self pitying in some tracks but still fabulous music. Then he left to do his own thing and in came Hogarth who after Seasons End took it into his own style more rock than prog with a higher pitched voice, both are Legends imo . Great vid

  • Adoro "! ♫♥♫

  • olá....Curti muito essa musica na minha adolescencia....é ótima!!!!

  • Fish was good, but Hogarth, for me personally where I am now, is better. The band have moved on and so have I. Can always listen to classic Marillion when I want to, but I love the direction they've taken and I'm more than happy to go with them 3>

  • I can't understand why some people call this "easy listening" music, like if they were bad words.

  • Hogarth believes that if the band had changed their name when he first arrived back in '89, they'd have had a much better public image and sold more records. When you listen to songs like "Cover My Eyes", "Afraid of Sunlight", "Out of This World" and "Beautiful", it's hard to argue with that logic.

  • Hogarth is miles ahead of Fish, I cannot understand this guy!!

  • I think Fish was the better singer overall, but Fish or Hogarth doesn't really make a difference to me. The style of music is still Marillion, and it's still brilliant! And I think some of the stuff Hogarth has done is actually better.

  • OK guys what are the marillion hits from the hogarth era, the absolute classics like this one? can someone be so kind to give me a small list of songs? the most emotional and catchy.

  • @mcufre

There are so many ... where to begin? "Easter," "Uninvited Guest," "No One Can," "King of Sunset Town," "Gazpacho," "Beautiful," "Afraid of Sunlight," "Alone Again in the Lap of Luxury," "Hollow Man," "The Great Escape," "Made Again," "Man of a Thousand Faces," "80 Days," "Estonia," "A Few Words for the Dead," "The Answering Machine," "Between You and Me," "You're Gone," Ocean Cloud," "Fantastic Place," "Neverland," "Don't Hurt Yourself," "Most Toys" ....

    That scratches the surface.

  • i love i love i love !!!!! j'ai connue cette chanson en 1995 , à la naissance de mon fils ! un ami avait acheté l'album et depuis je l'écoute en boucle !!!!!!

  • was it marillion who originally sang this, yes??

  • @rharris2727 - Yeah...did someone cover it?

  • @Chuixupu i'm not sure, its just i've heard this somewhere else, maybe of a film or something.. was it on a film do you know :/ ??

  • Gawd damned, i just love marillion. Fish or Steve its just terrific band. And steve is better singer. Did you have ears?

  • Very Nice....

  • That's true, with Hogarth they changed their direction completely. I like the first line-up better as well.

Which does not change the fact that this is a good pop song :)

  • The best line-up ever for Marillion !

  • Love this song. The little riff @ 1:55 fits perfectly. What an awesome bunch of musicians!!!

  • Hogarth is a twat

  • @forestdad Dont know talent when you see or hear it? Lighten up, Francis. :) Enjoy Marillion for what they are. They, from the beginning to present day are very well versed band. They do it all quite well.

Another great part in the video is Hogarth's face at 2:05 singing "when she moves". What a ham! LOL!!

  • This may not be the best songs of Marillion, but it still sounds good and it still sounds fresh than throw back 90s music.

  • Fish vs H. is just like comparing Peter Gabriel vs Phil Collins within Genesis : it's a never-ending religious war.

And guess what, just like with Genesis, both signers had their shining moments : I'm more of a Fish-era guy, but "Brave" is a motherf*cking masterpiece and "Afraid Of Sunlight" is brilliant.

  • Ive met both incarnations, Fish is a great guy, funny, Hogarth was polite, and yes, a rock star. He took them in a different direction, but if you ask Fish about it, he will tell you he is a rather large Hogarth fan, and that Hogarth has done a great job with where he has taken them.

  • @guyphawkes I completly agree with that! Both in his own way are great

  • great song. just great.

  • He,s been with them for 21 years

  • Having said that, I don't see the point anymore in people asking of how or why this band came to be what is today, or asking "Fish, or H?" Let's live today, for today, and enjoy what these extremely talented and honest musicians have to offer. Or, you can go on dreaming about Fish returning and replacing H.

  • I think deep down inside, every progressive rock band in the 80s were well aware that despite their obvious talents, that they faced possible extinction. That is, unless they kept pace with the everchanging musical scene. You have to remember, these are passionate, professional musicians. It is their livelihood. They thrive on passion to exist, and exist to share their passion. With, or without Fish, I am glad they are still around, and doing so well for themselves.

  • First time I hear this track in 18 years, I was very fond of it when I was 13, but this is this the first time I see the video...

    Could be worse :)

  • hello from Croatia!

I think music with Fish is better, much more progressive influences.. but this song for example, IS AMAZING!!

  • This is a very poppish song which I am not incredibly fond of personally and not a very good example of post-Fish Marillion. However, I honestly, believe in recent years they have achieved even greater musical heights than with Fish. Check out some of their concert video releases for a real treat. :-)

  • well said.... I got into marillion around the time i got into "Rush" late '78

  • GREAT Song !

  • I honestly do not understand the message of the person who posted this video... can anyone explain it? Not that it really matters, anyway....

  • Well, the message is; Marillion with Hogarth is good, but Marillion with Fish was just tremendous.

Not even the voice was better also the music was a lot better, much more technical and enigmatic.

It doesn't mean that Marillion isn't good anymore, just to easylisten.

  • each to their own, i personally prefer hogarth's voice and songs

  • I'll will go for that. "fish" was awesome, but just like every great thing... absolutely nothing lasts indefinately. hogarth is extremely talented...you must look at him with the ability he possesses for taking "marillion" well into the future for many years. music changes too. But Excellent job., Steve hogarth - Ian Mosely -pete Trawavas - Mark Kelly - and steve Rothery

  • Oh, and by the way, the "girl with the red dress on" with ruby red lips is intoxicating beautiful. GOOD LORD..........

  • it's just a matter of opinion. I think the post-fish marillion is much better...fish wrote good songs, kind of complex and quite original, but sort of empty i think, and after fish was gone marillion greatly improved their music in every way..for example the song 'easter': fish would have never dreamed of writting a song like that, and even if the thought of 'easter' had occured to him, he would have never achieved it. Marillion's energy changed completely after the fish era...

  • @janhin345 Have you actually cared to listen to the albums beyond Holidays In Eden? Every heard Brave or Afraid Of Sunlight or Marbles? No easy listening there IMHO. And the direction they took on Holidays In Eden had much more to do with record company pressure then Hogarth's influence. Look where they took themselves after Holidays In Eden? Proof enough that HIE is an anomaly (one which I still like however).

  • @janhin345 Dude, if "technical" floats your boat, listen to Dream Theater.

  • @janhin345 +1

  • @janhin345 Actually, Marillion are MUCH better with Hogarth. 'Nuff said.

  • @janhin345

Think of them as a different band with the same name, cuz that's what I think they are. I love both eras of Marillion but I consider them like two different bands cuz Hogart sounds like Hogart and Fish like Fish :)

    Cheers!

    thanks for sharing good music!

  • @janhin345 bollocks.. I've been following Marillion all since I was 10 years old. New Marillion is just far better in every way, musically, enegically, vocally, everything.

  • @janhin345 only in this song, but the work of Hogarth is tremendous, in "Marbles" listen : Neverland" is awesome and beautiful!

  • Fish was good, but Hogarth, for me personally where I am now, is better. The band have moved on and so have I. Can always listen to classic Marillion when I want to, but I love the direction they've taken and I'm more than happy to go with them 3>

  • @Cristinact well put chris!

  • @Cristinact

I think he refers to the guitar riff and the bass line between 2:05 and 2:14 which indeed remind of the U2. But, even so, they have very little in common with Bono & Co.

  • I understand his/her message alright, I felt exactly the same—20 years ago, that is. That's part of the problem with being "forever young"—you're still as emotional about things as you were when you actually /were/ young... And those who've aged normally don't know what's up with you! ;)
