@jigglesnap Ha-ha, I know right? But I love it because it gives me a sense of community that Windows just doesn't have. At the moment I'm running both machines on 7 though. ;)
well the problem was u tried installing ubuntu on that old of hardware which can prove difficult. u could install a lighter distro like xubuntu or even puppy linux or damn small linux. those would be much more likely to work as u only have 128mb ram and 4gb harddrive. damn small linux runs on 64mb ram and i think 100mb harddrive space if u do an install but u could also do a live cd only keeping home directory on the harddrive. Good Luck!
I LIKE YOUR ALLCAPS, THEY ARE CLASSY. Anyway, since I'm in a university I just get a FREE copy of XP-Pro, but I still use Ubuntu on my laptop. Which, luckily for me already has crappy, old hardware which has been supported all the way back from Dapper and through Intrepid. Lucky lucky.
We posted it because it's funny to us and to our friends- who are really the only people we care about. Also, being as I am in my third year of college and she in her second, you would be incorrect in assuming we are "little girls". Please be courteous when posting comments and replies, you'll gain a bad reputation like this.
No, unfortunately I'm an American of Irish-Scandinavian descent. What is this "our" business? And nobodies power is based entirely in infamy, unless you are a thief, social-engineer, politician or hacker. :|
Oh, come now, don't you think that's a bit unnecessary? You don't seriously believe that we were being SERIOUS about this do you? If so, I pity your lack of humor and common sense! We were bored, that's all. I use Ubuntu just fine on my notebook (I am in fact using Intrepid right now with no issue) so please don't jump to conclusions about me or my ability to use Linux. And please, keep your comments civil. :\
That's alright. Thanks for apologizing, it means a lot to know that you aren't just another jerk on YouTube- ha ha. I know it's hard to be totally neutral to people online when there are so many idiots here. I've probably done my share of being rude too. Patience is, as they say, wasted on idiots. So it's hard to know when we're using it or wasting it. XD
No, we really don't. At least we didn't swear as much as usual. Ha-ha.
Well, as I discovered yesterday when trying to boot sabakun, it's only reading 64 of that 128 of RAM, so that might be why it sucks so much. It decided yesterday that the GRUB loader was going to just stop working, so we had to use the repair function on the CD and then it couldn't even find the HD that Ubuntu was on, so right now it's not doing much of anything. XD
lol!!!!! just update your bios and buy some new memory cards there not that much for such an old machine
p.s. sometimes memory sticks go bad and they don't give the amount that they should, iv just replaced my memory sticks in my laptop(dell latitude d600) and its running even better XD
I also have Hardy Heron installed a 1998 Computer, specifically a Dell Demension XPS R400 maxed to 384mb RAM. It is actually usable if you do basic tasks and have some patience, how does 8.04 run on your your older Dell?
We're not sure yet, it's been installing for nearly 30 hours now...it's at 62%. I guess we'll have to wait until tonight to find out how efficient it is- I'll let you know. I think that Hardy Heron would have run OK if the memory was as high as you specified; as it is 128MB is pretty pathetic (it was awesome in '98 though!).
If you can at least bump the ram to 256, it would be good to go. Also, I disabled unnecessary services, once installed, to help free up more memory and processing to speed things up generally.
then again, you're installing 8.10! 11.04 is about 10x better.

That doesn't really make much sense, but whatever. Yes, my voice sounds very high-pitched on recordings; I don't know why, but it does. XP

Linux-based distros aren't intended for idiots. Just stick w/ windoze so we don't have to see your dipshit posts for help on UF.
