  • It's wrong to say that he is the leader of the Orthodox Church. He is simply a bishop, and all bishops are equal in power. He still only has one vote in a Synod. Also, he is certainly not the leader of any Church outside of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He is the First Among Equals. My leader is Patriarch Kyrill of Russia.

  • @AGDIRGIA He is actually know and the "first of equals." The patriarch of Constantinople is the head of the Orthodox faith because he presides over the synod. The real power he has is that he is in charge of keeping unity through out all the orthodox churches.

  • Saying Orthodoxy was founded in AD1054 is absolutely irresponsible. Please do your research.

  • The Orthodox Church was not founded in 1054 A.D. It was founded in 33 A.D. The Church of Rome split with the other four Patriarchs in 1054 because it altered the faith and it continued to alter the faith. History is pretty clear on this.

  • @ericd1277 Even the Catholics agree that they changed the Faith with their dogma of continuous revelation. They admit that their dogmas have changed because, according to them, God continues to reveal Himself even today.

  • @AGDIRGIA "Even the Catholics agree that they changed the Faith with their dogma of continuous revelation."

This is not true. It's called the development of doctrine. Nicea and the Trinity is a perfect example. If we are to take your logic and run with it, we could say that the council fathers of Nicea believed in continuous revelation also. But no one in their right mind is going to claim that. Thus your charges against Catholicism are fallacious.

  • @TheManGadoosh: Though, the development of the aforementioned doctrine you have spoken of is a doctrine universally held and maintained, dating from the Early Church throughout the Patristic era. This example is a weak example and hardly fulfills the expectation you believe it to. The Orthodox is right to confirm that Rome created specific doctrine, i.e., the Bodily Assumption, Purgatory, Papal Supremacy, while the Orthodox faith has maintained the faith universal.

  • @ericd1277 It depends on how you look at it. Conceivably both churches (the Catholic and Orthodox) may have been founded in 1054 A.D. They were one church before that point and then split. Thus it became known as the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church instead of the Holy Church.
