@IJustWatchEm71 - More like the 56-106 "Lastros", who were the worst team in MLB in 2011, 40 games back in their division - they couldn't even play .350 ball!
They were 46 games back of the Phils, who had the best record in MLB during the regular season - their 102-60 record was the best they ever had, and they cruised to their 5th consecutive NL East championship - a far cry from Baker Bowl!
Houston, we have a problem. The 'Stros were even 11 games behind your Mariners.
During the 1940's, Lever Brothers, the makers of Lifebuoy, constantly hammered away the point that if you used THEIR soap, you were well protected against...."B.O." {Body Odor}. And to make sure you got the message, the sound of a foghorn was used in their radio commercials. That was the most memorable part of that campaign, and it was parodied in theatrical cartoons, recordings {"Spike Jones Murders 'Carmen'", for one}, and other media.
When the Phillies played at Baker Bowl, there was a sign on the outfield wall that said, "The Phillies use Lifebuoy". A graffiti artist snuck into the ballpark one night and added this phrase to the slogan: "And they still stink!" (The Phils were horrible in that era)
As interpreted in the Bugs Bunny short, "Hare Ribbin."
Ashburn was talking about the Phillies' game? The Mariners could use the sound bite this year. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!

Wait a minute, ain't those the initials of our president?
Strange, the ad almost seems to apply... on a more global scale.
