  • hi joseph i liked very much this video is very accurated for this question. but isnt it a short answer cause u took only 30secs thank u alot anyways

  • Thank you very much. I find your videos really good to apply when being under pressure.

By the way, it is a little difficult to listen to this one. I guess its sound was recorded in mono-channel? (Im sorry I dont know the technically proper word). 9mins of listening to it made me dizzy ^^

  • i'm having my toefl exam next month...i hope this video will help me to perform well.....thank you joseph for ur g8 videos!!!

  • I love your method of teaching

You are well organized ... and your videos are really informative

    I really appreciate your effort

    Thank you

  • Thank you for giving me the solid conceptual understanding.

  • hi joseph..do you have a video on improving the speaking question 5?

  • Thanks so much Joshep for your help...very clear and easy to understand explanation...you are GREAT!!

  • I've taken this exam several times..I need 26 in speaking section, how would I get a higher score ? the template here only shows not much content and intelligible response within one minute?

  • @sheila20102 You're right. The example in the video is basic, so it won't help pull your speaking score up to a 26, but it provides the foundation. Use the exact same structure but add all the content you can within that minute. Here's an extra tip: the general definition of the subtopics are not as important to your score as the example of the subtopics. So, don't get stuck talking about the definition so much that it doesn't give you enough time to explain the example. I hope that helps.

  • what about question no. 5??

  • Wow! there is a wired thing: the sound of the right side is louder than the left side!!!

    ......OTZ.

  • Thank u for sharing this video - more power to you joseph.

  • thanks a lot Mr.joseph.your videos helped me a lot for my toefl test.I was able to get 29 in the speaking section just by looking at your videos.they were simple and very helpful.god bless you.

  • @MCRHINES Incredible score. Congratulations. Thanks for letting me know. Reading posts like this always makes me want to post more and better videos. I'm happy my videos played a role in helping you succeed to that level. Good luck in your future plans.

  • wow. thx man... very helpful

  • thanks very much! its very usefull! but where can i find a tutorial about questions 3 and 5??

  • thank you so much .. this really helps ... !!

  • Wow, really clear-cut objectives!

  • This actually is the kind of thing that I've been looking for. Thank you so much Joseph for posting. This does help a lot. God bless you!

  • Thank you very much for the positive words. I'm going to do my best to keep the videos coming and making them more helpful with every upload.

  • @lahivelo001 Thanks for the positive words. I posted more videos about questions 1 of both the speaking and the writing. I hope you check them out because I think you'll also find them helpful. Good luck and let me know if there's anything I can do to help you in your preparation. Joseph

  • Thanks guys, your postings are GREAT. I suggest that you hide the negative comments; They made me nervous although, the test is not that difficult eventhough I am not native and I have never lived in an English environment

  • hey no tiene sonido esto

  • que dices, trabaja mas que bien. si oigo todo... trata despues debes tener algun problema con tu compu. ;)

  • ponte el otro auricular

  • Hi Joseph, im glad i found your site. It helps me to raised my speaking section to 3 pts after taking couple of hrs from your free videos here. I will be taking your package 1,2,3 soon. I hope this will help me to improve my score to the maximum. Thanks for this awesome help.

  • @joyce2010ful Glad I could help you out. Keep working hard and we'll get you the score you need.

  • very useful material. I am taking the toefl tes nexte year I need to get good results this videos are very good.

    salam from Mexico

  • I'm happy they're helping you. I'm planning to upload a few more videos by the end of this month (January 2010), so keep checking if you like them!

  • I got 30 for speaking, and only 21 for Reading. How to concentrate while doing the reading? I wanna get over 100 +_+

  • Wow, 30 in speaking is great. If you want to concentrate more on reading, you just have to develop your reading muscle. Try sitting down and going through a newspaper or magazine for two hours. If you can concentrate that long on technical material, you shouldn't have too much trouble on the test. If you can't do that now, build up to it. Good luck and congratulations again.

  • I'll keep trying :) Thank you very much

  • thanks a lot buddy, you helped me a loT . .

  • Hi Joseph ur method of teaching is excellent.Particularly ur way of taking notes and arrows technique is wonderful

  • Within a short time I'm gonna be teaching as you do

    In addition, nice pronunciation

    you rock!!

  • Thank you very much and good luck. Teaching is tough but very rewarding, at least for me it is. Let me know if there's any way I can help.

  • Joseph:

you are a very good teacher!!!! very clear and you make it sound easy! nice!!!!!

  • I'm gonna take the test in 2 days. Cant stop myself from being nervous

  • I hope you got the score you wanted and weren't too nervous. If you're reading this, let me know how you did.

  • I found your lecture super-helpful. I got max score for speaking. Thank you very much. Anyway, I'm going to retake the test after Tet ( Vietnamese Tet). Hope to let you know a better result next time :)

  • @jackien25 I'm happy to hear that. Congratulations. Let me know how you do next time and if you need any help.

  • I used your website. It was fabulous. Noe the problem is that I can not find anything about Q3 of speaking.

  • well, when you soeak now, im sure that its really easy but i was on the exam and had 20 in speaking... but i was very nervous and this is really baad!! :) on sunday i have another exam... i hope i will do my best...

  • in the ibt test can you take notes while listening???

  • Yes, you can. You first listen to the conversation or lecture and you can take notes while you are listening. Then, you get the questions one by one and you can use your notes to help you answer the questions. I hope that helped. Joseph.

  • Im gonna be taking it at jersey city where i live. well at least you've experienced it for once. I have no clue about what to do especially on the speaking part. im way more nervous than you

  • applying that structure is gonna help me a lot. Im gonna be taking it next sat and probably be drawing these 3 boxes on the speaking part lol.Thank you

  • i'm taking the test next sat too. Where will you take it? i'm taking it in BKK. Gosh i'm sooo worried as this is my 2nd time for it....how about you?

  • Thanks so much for such a prompt reply ^^.You did enlighten me A LOT, teacher. I sure will follow your recommended method of attacking Q6. To be honest, I will take the test this August; only two weeks away. So anxious :(

I only have one last question, though. I would like to know whether your method has ACTUALLY been proved to be valid. As I see from the Princeton Review, among other iBT prep books, the response to Q6 often really ELABORATES on the two examples, while you only MENTION them!

  • Thanks for the positive feedback.

Yes, what I teach is 100% valid because I've taken the test to ensure that all of my strategies work and are accurate.

This is a basic example. It would earn a fair score on the test (18/30 to 20/30). For a perfect score, you need the same structure but many more details.

If you want to see some more of my videos, check out my other you tube video on Speaking #1 and #2 and the videos on my site: NoteFull.

  • Can I add this sentence at the end of my response: "As obvious from the lecture, both whales and rodents can adjust their internal heat in response to the changes in the temperature of the environment."?

P.S: Thanks very much for such straightforward guidelines. Hope you'll address my question soon :D

  • Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm happy the video helped. Honestly, I wouldn't add that sentence.

If you want a conclusion, I would use "That's how the professor discusses the topic of thermoregulation."

  • dude you are the man !! , nice work , really helped me a lot !

  • cant u ppl guide me how to improve my english speaking while presenting on office meetings

  • THANKS ALOT THAT WAS HELPFULL .

  • Thank you! This is very helpful, I will check your website!

  • I like you're way of explaning

    thank you

    Leena

  • I wish I could speak like that on my test.

    very very helpful response.

  • excellent

  • It is a perfect answer. Thanks for the new response.

  • Thank you

  • Rodents want an internal temperature of 40 degrees, and their environment can reach 50 degrees. Rodents spread saliva across their bodies. As the saliva evaporates, it cools the rodents, which helps keep their internal temperature constant.

    (60 seconds)

  • (35-40 seconds)

The second is evaporative cooling. (When an animals environment is hotter than its internal temperature, it uses this to avoid absorbing too much heat. The professor explains that when water evaporates, it cools the surface.) He discussed rodents to illustrate this

  • (10-15 seconds)

The first is the insulating power of fat. (When an animals environment is colder than its internal temperature, it uses this to counteract heat loss.) The professor discussed whales to illustrate this. Whales have insulating fat called blubber under their skin. When the surrounding water is much colder, this blubber helps keep the whales warm.

    (35-40 seconds)

  • (0 seconds)

The professor discusses thermoregulation. (He explains that thermoregulation is the process that animals use to keep their internal temperature constant.) He explains two types of thermoregulation.

    (10-15 seconds)

  • It is a good explanation of speaking #6. But it can be only scored about 2-3 of 4 (lack of detail). Could you please give a sample scoring close to 4? Thanks.

  • That's true. The example was the simplest one. But, it showed the structure. Here's another example. This will be a high-level response. The words in parentheses ( ) you don't have to have to earn a perfect score, but they'll guarantee one. I'll post the response in a different post. Joseph.

  • Love it! thank you~~~

  • great video! it's very simple and clear.
