Can someone explain why that line in particular is humorous?  Obviously, I understand the context, that he's telling off the guy from the bar encounter. But what specifically does the "apples' line denote?

@jsandler24 Well I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but "how do you like them apples" is a common saying, I'm not sure where it originated. I think him asking if he likes apples doesn't really have context other than setting up the punchline. I think asking such a random thing, then putting context into it in an insulting way is what makes it so effective.

@jsandler24 apparently during WWI there was this bomb or grenade or something that was shaped like a ball with a stick hanging out of it and it looked like an apple. So a soldier would throw them things at their enemies and it would blow up and kill them and then the soldier who threw the apple would say "how do you like them apples"
