You should careful with interchanging atomic bombs and thermonuclear bombs in the title, they are two different weapons. One is fission based(atomic), also much smaller, and one is fusion based (thermonuclear), which is much bigger in power.

You should careful with interchanging atomic bombs and thermonuclear bombs in the title, they are two different weapons. One is fission based(atomic), also much smaller, and one is fusion based (thermonuclear), which is much bigger in power.

Every thermonuclear weapon from today is mostly a three stage design: fission->fusion->fission. 1.Stage->nuclear fission by Pu-imploding 2.Stage->fusion by De 3.Stage->fission U-238 mantle through n from fusion. Step 2 and Step 3 generate the same yield. (Russia dont use the 3rd stage by the 2x2 Design TSAR...with U-238 Fission @3rd it will have 120 Megatons. Weapons from today are much smaller 0,375MT for a W88 Warhead(Trident D-5) 1,0MT for a SS-18 MIRV

Yea, You are right about the wildlife doing well near the Chernobyl site. I live in Pennsylvania within a 100 miles of TMI and we don't have any 3 eyed frogs around. I feel safe living here. The biggest fear is just knowing that you were exposed. And like I sayed in my other comments I feel like a dooms day shelter is a waste. Mabe to some its practical just not to me. You got to think to you get a warning if there is one what are your chances you and your family will make it in? Peace
