  • Is there any difference between 9x receiver and HK orange TR6A receiver?

  • today i just crashed a plane with this radio, took off well but 20 seconds into the flight, and the radio just didnt answer to my movements, i tried to turn the aircraft and suddenly it made a roll, after that it went out of control and ka-boom.

  • Please Bruce , I'm waiting for part 2 !!!!!!!

  • where is part 2?

  • Thank You, for a great review, what kit would I buy to do your conversion and where is the best place to buy them from? You should open a Hobby Shop you would make a lot of money!

  • I have had nothing but issues with the turnigy radio. It has been responsible for the demise of two planes now and I am done until I can get the frsky dyi kit. Besides the frsky, is there any others I can use with this transmitter?

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE OF THE TURNAGY 9 CH MODE 1 AND 9CH MODE 2????? AND ARE THEY ANY DIFFERENT FROM THE FLY SKY 9 CH

  • @VETTE811 In mode 1 the throttle is on the right and in mode 2 the throttle is on the left. Very important to know, otherwise you'll have problems...

  • Ya I have seen the smaller 6 channel reciver for the 9x but I cant seem to find one anywhere. There not on hobbyking or even ebay for that matter. If I cant find one, ill try to use another brand that has been known to work

  • Good review! I got the Turngy 9X a month ago and I am extremey impressed to say the least. I got it for $38 dollars plus shipping from hobbyking and the backlight kit was an extra $5. Its remarkable what you can do with it. It is by far the most programmable radio ive used. Only dislikes are the reciever is too big, the batteries are hard to get in and out and that annoying beep every button you push. Otherwise A+

  • @homebrewman23 The 6-channel receiver is a much better size, especially when you take a look inside the 8-channel one and realize how much smaller they could have made it if they'd tried.

  • Bruce, First I want to thank you for the clear concise videos you produce. Next, I want to replace my son's Dx5e but have lost confidence in DSM2 due to too many signal loss induced crashes. The difficulty we have in getting away from Spektrum is the fact that he already has a number of Parkzone Ultra Micro flyers.

Here's my question. Do you consider the Dx6i to be more reliable than the Dx5e and do you know of a DSM2 module that can be used with the Turnigy 9x?

  • Thanks for sharing the video!!! Great! Wich one would you recommend, Spektrum DX6/7 or the Turnig 9X? thanks

  • @NeoAndersonn It depends. The 9X sure offers a lot more "bang for your buck" but the Spektrum is perhaps better suited to those who might never have used an RC system before. The 9X is certainly a lot more resistant to interference and performs much better than the Spektrum but the Spektrum is a more complete package with good manuals. I fly with a 9X 95% of the time and have no Spektrum gear -- if that tells you anything.

  • What happened to Part 2? I was looking forward to it...

  • Hey Bruce - just stumbled across this vid and your others on spectrum analysis. Thanks so much for this. I have a 9X and a DX6i so it was great to see the difference between the true frequency hopping of this radio and the older DSM technology. I have greater respect for my $60 radio now! In truth I liked it already. May get another and do the FrSky conversion if I feel the need for failsafe, though I notice there is a failsafe setting in the 9X menu - does it not work in your experience?

  • Hello what is the software and hardware you use to to find out how many hop on frequency?

  • Hi there bruce , Thx for all your hard work making these very informative vids , just read your 8$ diy battery mod and are woundering could i use a 2s 2800mAh 30c lipo ? and just solder the transistor in place to get rid of the anoying bips

  • Obrigado(Thanks) Bruce, por suas valiosas explicações - Ciro Brazil.

  • Hi RCmodelreview. I have this radio. Is it safe to use it on a .25 size funfly plane or .50 size plane? Please help. Im totally confused. Thank you,

  • you've probably got this question but how did you change the knobs and which knobs are those that you have on your imax 9x?

  • where is part 2?

  • Hey Bruce, love ur videos! I was wondering, can i use this as a slave to a futaba/ Jr transmitter?

  • Where is Part 2?

  • Can the 9x trims be programed to a switch(es)? I'm looking for a 2.4Ghz Tx that will be compatible with Tamiya tanks. Thanks.

  • It's only a $60 "TOY" radio

  • im from the uk and ive just paid £90 and you paid $60 fucking uk everythings expensive immergrate i think..

  • Bruce, do you find that the 9x feels a bit bum-heavy? I always use a neck strap and found that the position of the loop on the radio is too high, resulting in the radio requiring more effort to hold it horizontal (as compared to my DX6i anyway).

  • @KaldekBoch I don't use a neckstrap -- I work out a lot and my arms are strong enough to hold the radio without one :-) I sometimes wonder whether I should try a strap but after 40 years of flying without one it just feels unnatural.

  • @RCModelReviews Fair enough, tough guy! I'll see if it changes when my Lithium Ion battery cells arrive for the $8 battery mod. :)

  • @RCModelReviews I don't use the neck strap either, seems like I want to keep a thumb above the gas stick anyway all the time when not flying.. Plus it's just in the way.. It doesnt feel safe..

  • @KaldekBoch The problem is that this radio used to have a 72mhz module in it on v1, so when they removed it the tx became unbalanced.

  • This is the best priced rc system and product in rc history.

    54$!!!!! Amazing

  • What's the range?Plz tell me

  • '

what country make this R/C system turnigy,,,

can this R/C turnigy use on the ground surface,,,

not need it use airplane / helicopter

  • Wheres the flying video?

  • can you help...?.............. i checked the firmwier on my eurgle 9x and now my al,ele, rudder doesnt work now. do you know what the problem is?....

  • i just wanted to know how good this radio is for some one who has not got much experiance of using radio controls?

  • The Leader Hobby version of this has the antenna as part of the module so it isn't hard wired but I dunno if its v2 hardware or what..

  • I have seen on your website that u have converted to Li-ion batteries in all of your apps, can you please make a video on different kinds of li-ions, and their prices are hugely differs per mah at ebay , don't know how to select batteries for my tx and to power my models.

  • Since this is an FHSS system I think that why they didn't put the fail safe in there because there is a lower change of getting interference and plus its 2.4 ghz so there even less change of getting interference. I'm guessing that your only getting about one glitch per radio maybe more, maybe less by 3 or 4.

  • what is the complain...??? just only 60 dollars...are u expect to have futaba 14MZ system in it...? really stupid review and comment...i'm using Turnigy 9X for my nitro plane and EP. No problem and complain at all for the price VS system...if u want good radio...just go for 14MZ...but will u able PAY for that...?

  • @lihwoei Then again there are some flaws in the firmware that some people might not tolerate, even for only 60 bucks.

I agree with you though, for it's price the Tx is awesome.

  • thnks it was very nice to see someone with some tech i dont have showing me real preformance loved it im using this radio now and no problems thanks again

  • Great review.

For the rest, you are all very critical of this Radio. You must remember what you are paying for this system. If you want it all expect to pay $500+. Just enjoy this hobby and remember even the best radios cant make you an great pilot. Happy flying.

  • When you are going to post the video about putting in another module like frysky ....etc while using the inbuilt antenna.

    Also Frysky or Assan ?

  • @Aabish72 @RCModelReviews I too am very much looking forward to this video!

I was wondering if it would be a wise idea to convert the antenna into an SMA connector instead. This way boosters and what not could be added very easily? Also when using a module with its own antenna it can be easily unscrewed?

Thanks Bruce for your work. Where about in Australia are you from?

  • do you make your videos in a hanger ? Are there only modelplanes?

  • you say at around 8.45 that by putting a module in the turnigy and having the modules ariel behind the built in one it will suck the energy. what exactly do you mean when you say it will "suck the energy" and will I have this problem if Install a FrSky hack module with its ariel mounted beside the turnigy's ariel. cheers

  • @virakye I'm terribly sorry the reviews didn't meet with your strict quality and structure requirements. The huge amount of money you paid for this information will be refunded immediately. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • @RCModelReviews LOL, nice one Bruce!

  • What was the range, I test mine for many flights without problems but sudennly everytime y turn to landing position suddenly turns ailerons like crazy!!! What could it be. Range 300 mts

  • @ocastanontube I think you may be suffering from the dreaded effects of FlySky/Turnigy's lack of quality control. The unit I tested had over 500m of ground-rage so should be good to two or three times that in the air at least.

  • @ocastanontube I get about the same range as yourself. 250-300m. Oh well, the tx module and rx is pretty worthless.

  • Great review, but has anybody got any details on how it goes in the real world. i.e regarding range, glitch issues. I am only a park flyer so am after something like this if it doesnt have range issues etc.

  • @travellingpurdy I have this Turnigy 9x v2 Tx and it has no range issues whatsoever. I just don't know how well it goes beyond about 350m as that's as far as I've ever flown one of my plane with it.

No glitches or anything though, rock solid signal strength, so it's not near the edge of it's range with 350m for sure! In comparison many other Tx reach 1,5km without problems, so it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if this one can do the same. I just haven't confirmed this yet myself though.

  • excellent review, thanks

  • If you buy the Eurgle version of this Transmitter. You can change the module easily. It don,t have that wire. Otherwise it's exactly the same radio system. Thank You for your interesting reviews.

  • 16 primary frequencies to counter radio interference does sound excellent to me. I am extremely interested in that test flight review part.

So far you've got some extremely good reviews, thanks a lot. :)

  • Did you do the video on using other modules and getting rid of the wire hanging on the module?

  • Have you done an update on this radio yet?

  • Does this radio have a memory? as in one plane or more & what battery could you use rather than 8aa from HC please

  • @Mozzy194 Yes, it has an 8-model memory and you can use a 3S lipo or the $8 lithium battery as described on the RCModelReviews website.

  • Great review with great content. I really like how you present it.

    Thanks

  • I know others have upgraded with pcb mods & their own software versions. A factory software update thats user friendly would be a good start..but hey that would sell them less (flysky, turnigy, eurgle, imax..etc) "new " rx & tx units..and off course leave it toooo easy for other "chinesse pirates" in their own backyard paddy field to reverse engineer & copy it! ... "Anyway its a $60 radio" ..Must write that one down 100 times to remind myself.. its a $60 radio... its a $60..

  • Hi Bruce, Good intro review, good points raised on the V2.. I like the rf freq hopping now, but the wired in module "option" is a total step backwards. What are they at (flysky) thinking? Propriatry only thinking..? Its an 'open systems' world now with people wanting to use existing modules out there or other brands & not even backwards compatible with their earlier v1.4 modules..

  • This radio seems to have such potential, but FlySky does not seem to see beyond offering the cheapest solution.

At $60 plus $11 for additional receivers this is a great option for the casual weekend flyers as is. Pending the flight tests of course.

Upgrades to look at are a LiPo battery, A plug for firmware updates, third party firmware, at least one allows resetting the low battery warning level.

Other receiver options would be a wonderful addition as well. Both higher end and lighter weight

  • Pretty bad design! wiring in a changeable module, if this is sorted out and you can buy one without a module and just have the antenna with an SMA plug externally, I would put a frsky module in it.

Can't wait for a video of that far eastern FPV set, what kind of price are we talking? Average far eastern stuff or more the average price for these cameras? I would love to do FPV but I can't really afford all these bloody expensive £100+ cameras!

  • Nice one Bruce and i've been looking forward to this as i'm in two minds to get on or not but i'll go take a look at the website before i do make my mind up,like you say it is only $60 but whats the manual like mate as we all know the Asians ain't to sharp and there manuals or translating them should i say ;-) thumbs up.

  • Thanks for the preliminary review. I wouldn't have expected or anticipated that the FHSS version TX to work with the DSSS RX.

  • Bruce thanks so much for the review. I've had my eye on the Turnigy for over a year but kept avoiding it due all the V1 problems. Looks like Turnigy have really cleaned things up with V2 and I feel it is good due to your technical investigation. As long as I keep up the "It's only $60." mantra I think I will like it just fine.

  • when i received the HK package with the turnigy inside it was so light i had fear they forgot to pack it. its truely really light

  • RCModelReviews Rocks :) Thanks a lot Bruce for all the info you are giving to us :)

  • Great quickie review Bruce. I'm interested in seeing how much the software has improved. My V1 software is driving me nuts - ok, ok its a $60 radio but decent software aint that hard to do. Also interested how I could fit my Assan module. On the V1 it waggles about so I had to tape it on.

  • @jewfish68 I'm going to do a full firmware review shortly - at which time I'll also compare the standard (V2) firmware with that on offer from other sources. There is also a video and downloadable short-form manual under-way.

  • Would you risk your model with a sixty dollar radio?

  • @Mark1Spitfire In the interests of finding out whether the product actually works in real applications, that's exactly what I'll be doing as soon as the weather clears around here. It's not a module/receiver combination I'd use in a large/fast model (mainly due to the lack of failsafe) but it could be okay for slower/smaller models -- providing that single antenna works satisfactorily.

  • Thanks very useful. I have the older one for me and the V2 for my dad and i wasnt aware of the module. I wanted to know how good it was so this was very useful but I would also VERY much like to know how to actually put in another module. I also think it isnt as useful because you can use 72MHz and stuff like with the old one im happy to have. My one has the fixed D/R and Expo issues but im not sure about the mixing. However because of its price I dont mind too much.
