Bob... Crenshaw sets up to his target line with open feet and shoulders. With this open address, the normal tendency would be to take the putter back outside the line and then make contact toward the heel. Is there a possibility that Ben addressed the ball more toward the toe to compensate for this tendency? This inside to square loop can also provide a wonderful sense of rhythm and flow to the stroke, and aid in eliminating the hit.
Check out the 1:49 mark. If you raise the putter to the height (off the grass) that it will be at impact, then simply ground the putter you will notice that the ball will now be addressed on the toe. If you ground the putter at address with the sweetspot centered to the ball and now simply raise the putter to impact height you will notice that the ball is now on the heel. Nicklaus avoided this by not grounding his putter.

Something that Crenshaw and Locke has in common was that they addressed it towards the toe, consequently the blade appeared to move to the inside, but they returned the sweetspot to the ball with the blade moving along the target line for a few inches past impact i.e. they were addressing it correctly for a centered arc impact. Great footage!
Far too complicated for me. Got to coordinate arms, hands, shoulders, wrists, waist and you can't even look at the target. I face the hole, watch the target and putt with one hand. Check my video post to see how it works. Takes some getting used to but you can get very accurate and can control distance much better.
