it's because aspirated p and unaspirated p are different phonemes in the indo-aryan languages, and they are allophones of the same phoneme in english. if you don't know what a "phoneme" or an "allophone" is go look it up, you have the internet in front of you.

[pe:jnt]." the colon in the last transcription represents the vowel lenghtnening, which i'm sure peters does not know. a native speaker of english pronounces voiceless plosives (such as /p/) with an aspiration at the beginning of stressed syllables, and would therefore pronounce the word [pʰejnt]. if he is not a linguist, he should not be talking about something that requires knowledge of linguistics to fully understand.
