They stole these lyrics and put them on "The Power". They even had someone lip-syncing it, like Milli Vanilli. Then Arista bought the rights and hired a new rapper and re-recorded it and called the new group, "Snap"
I used to chill wit this dude (Chill Rob G)...ANd he was TRULY UNDERRATED back in the day. He was the consumate lyricist. THESE NEW DUDES...Nah...They have no true substance in thier rappin'... Material stuff plays out, and this is all what they talk about. To me it's TOO LAME...THIS Dude Rob G...was why ahead of his time. He could have got with some of the best THEN, and quite possibly some NOW....From what I understand Wild Pitch crossed him by sellin' out to SNAP... somethin' about copyrights
You knew him! Cool. He's one of THE BEST ever. Clear, intelligent and stylish. Amazing lyricist, especially on Court is in Session. Gonna listen to my favourite Ride the Rhythm now
These radio friendly lames stole my boy Chill Rob Power song and made a fool with no emceeing skills a megastar just like they did with untalented Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Biggie, Master P, Jay Z, Beyonce and Kanye...Fuck the Illuminati...God Iz Coming!
Diamond sharp cut. Like a dude said below, this is the most slept on MC from one of the most slept on labels of the Golden Age.
"It's wack to me when the beat is more hype than the MC / Cause what he's sayin' is empty" -- in 1989 Chill Rob G encapsulated what would become of hip-hop in the 2000s.
@trill6906 are you kidding me? I have the up most respect for any of the old rappers, but the rappers of today, would slaughter most of the "old" rappers.... in lyricism, in flow, and in straight up anything.
@PacificDark hey man i told you, i love old school rap, but compare the lyricism of today underground rappers? none of that gay mainstream shit, excluding eminem.
@trill6906 That aint true. I been listening to rap since early 80's sometimes we can be guilty of overating our stars of our age. Go back and check early 90's(91, 92) was kinda wack very similiar to right now.
Totally dope. "These are the words of the rising sun, surprising some, who thought I was just another hum-drum, average type, non-mc, who found the mic, and thought he was hype, naw that's not me"
djcesare, the statement "hip hop b4 2000 was horrid" is the most uninformed statement I've ever heard. You obviously don't know hip hop. The 90's was hip hop's true golden era. Ever heard of Wu-Tang Clan? A Tribe Called Quest? De La Soul? Sure, some things sound dated, but to make a comment like that just goes to show how young people into hip hop now don't know their history and the history of hip hop culture. It's a damn shame.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
actually i dont listen to hip hop so maybe i have no say.. im a tech house dj/producer. but i listen to hiphop sometimes for their use of samples and shit. but im just comparing this to like.. juicy or something..look how much its evolved. it seems alittle cheese the lyrics.. even they way they annunciate. just an opinion. old samples are always cool. but just like classic house to me sounds horrid compared to todays house.. just cuz its a classic and pioneer doesnt make it better... cheers
Come on, man, at least you could be funny, like RealHipHopSucks93... That man is really mi idol: he says 80-90 hip-hop sucks and that Soulja Boy and so are the best, but look at his profile: it's obvious he knows more about music that we all. He's just joking.
If you wanna do the same, do it right, dawg; if you're sincere, you're just a dumbass.
Rhyme skills has nothing to do with, $, hoe's, guns & clothes. And when that runs out the so called Hip Hop after 2000 rapper hasn't shit to say. Nothing real, political, philosophical or anyting that makes sense. Since your young, you don't know that MC's will make these so-call rappers today look stupid in a contest of skills. THIS IS REAL HIP HOP!
Definitely one of the MOST underrated MC's of all time, some of robs lyrics will still stand up today. I grew up in East orange Nj during this period, so i thought it was one of the best albums of the era. Dj Mark and Chill Rob G.
Arista's selling power was undeniable but HipHop purists refused the new watered down version, opting instead for the "harder" vocals of the original Chill Rob G mix. To date satisfactory litigation of this matter is pending, as per Chill Rob G.
snap! killed him, his version of the power was just this song remodeled
Heard this on a local college radio station back in 1989. The DJ was Davey D at UC Berkley. Bought This Cassette shortly after. Chill Rob G spitting rhymes like it should be. One of the best lyrical hardcore non cursing rap song ever. Way underrated

Independent Rap labels were great. Rappers had more control over the music they put out.

There are about a hundred remixes of SNAP "I Got The Power" on Youtube. And none of them can stand up to the original which is THIS TRACK.
Chill Rob G should be noted on that.
