It's not a good job of recording - it's very top heavy and a lot of the lower range overtones just haven't made it onto whatever it was recorded onto. The result is a bit empty and frankly rather tinny.
@gedq As far as I remember I recorded either with mic in the hall and an extension chord to the camera, or I used a simple Mini-Disc recorder and then put it together on the computer.
@formiga1950 Revealing how people lose their manners in the anonymity of the web. Or would say exactly these words to the face of f.e. Mr. Salonen in case you happen to dislike a recording of his?
@KerlleNaa Dear Sir: I just love to go stratight to the point and to use the right words when this is the case. Shit is shit. Stinkers stinks. Use these words with Mr. Salonen, if you dislike any of his conductings, or even his facial manners. With my best regards, the anonimous Jose Claudio Barbedo
@KerlleNaa I agree. Sadly, one thing the internet has created is a bunch of cowards, who sit around all day at their computer keyboards typing and posting vitriol. If you don't like something, fine. But you can at least post your disagreement with some civility.
@KerlleNaa Well... I believe this part of the symphony (finale) is very expressive. Just like Wagner: each music sentence has a very ambiguous feeling bumping. ((Some people call it 'orgasmic' music when it is well conducted.)) In other words - each sentence has got a huge feeling charge. For instance in those horns that start in 1:31, this should be really introspective and imagefull (lots of pictures). I just don't feel any justice to that parameter. For me, that just kills it all. Understand?
@LordMgls@LordMgls I don´t really understand, because what you cite are personal impressions or feelings not necessarily justified in the music. Where does it say introspective and full of image? That is an interpretation of yours, as justified or not as mine.
@LordMgls I agree.... something is missing ! I feel like the text is played but without any expression. At 1:30 the theme appears but they don't make any sense to it, it just seams to appear from nowhere. And the tempo is so slow ! I don't feel any power... just have compare with the Karajan's version

Straight to the point: this conductor is a piece of shit. Compare the same piece with Esa-Pekka Salonen in youtube.
I agree with LordMgls. Wolfgang Michel stinks.

Speaking of horns at 1:31 that theme was used on First Class Beach Baby song

@donaldcallen There have been metronome markings by Sibelius himself listed to this Symphony. The tempo in this recording is about in that range...

Beautiful piece of music, crudelly assassinated by the maestro.

Besides the Horns have a beautiful theme, but it is not the main thing, in the end it is sound that introduces the theme in the winds.
And what I say is not necessarily the truth either.
But when you have such strong, almost rude opinions, you better come up with a musically logical reason.
