VERY disappointed for 3 very specific reasons:

-Old McGarrett rarely smiled. New McGarrett smiles every 20 seconds. Without that original "I'm in charge" stoicism, it just doesn't work.

-new Chin-Ho not bad-ass enough. The original Chin-Ho was a BEAST of a man who was channeling Oddjob from "Goldfinger". Bad guys simply gave up rather than mess with him.

-New McGarrett's hair is nothing special. Old Steve's hair was kevlar-like and could deflect bullets.

Just a re-warmed CSI clone, frankly.

Well, I watched the premiere last night. Definitely the most OVER-HYPED show of the season. The ambience was wrong. They must've recycled the soundtrack from "The Unit." McGarret was more like RAMBO than the cool-head of old days. Why call the show "Hawaii Five-O" instead of something more appropriate like maybe "CSI: Hawaii" or "NCIS: Honolulu"?

It looks like all they did is basically toned down the original masterpiece into a simple to understand and cliched show for the 2010 audiences of today sadly. All it looks now is just some common buddy cop genre tv show. Older shows are better than the majority of tv show series today IMO.

Grace Park's old show, Battlestar Galactica, was a remake, and it was far superior than the 1978 version. I doubt this show will last as long as the 12 years original Five-O ran, but I'm there on Sept. 20.

sigh...if you strip away the 5-0 title/namesake and put some random ass title on it and think of this as a completely new show, you will find that it has a fair amount of potential. people whining about treading on sacred ground arent making fairly good cases as to why it would be bad either.

this is the type of show that would work as a remake, unlike bananza and such. im no advocate of the show, either, im just intervening here. just be fair and make a REAL case as to why it'd be bad.

The new commercials with the original soundtrack brings cedibility to the re-make of this iconic series. Never liked the updated track. It was too fast and too in your face. I'm glad they had the sense to stick with the tried and true.

Basically, these reincarnated shows offer nothing new. The main intention is to be "hip" and attract the younger demographic. Thus, they steal the brand name, paste the same character labels on younger, attractive actors and write trite, supposedly witty banter to "buddy" up these dudes. As I recall, they tried a Hawaii-based series a couple of years back with Michael Biehn and it bombed because it had nothing new and original to say. The same applies to this.

I loved the original "Star Trek." I remember how I hated the new and improved "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Then I watched it and fell in love with the show. I watch the old shows now and ask myself how I got sucked into the drama of it all, back then. New and improved is a good thing! The special effects we had then don't compare to the special effects in shows today! Alex is a great actor and I am excited to be watching his climb to stardom! I wish him great success in all his work!

Sorry, this show doesn't hold a candle to the original. O'Laughlin has none of the intensity and drive of Jack Lord. The original relied on tight teamwork and expert detection to solve its crimes.  This show, despite the always exotic locale, offers little else. I see very little chemistry here and the "wryness" of these characters falls flat as it has on other police shows. I know this show wants to do something "new" but new doesn't necessarily mean improved. Pass on this one.

The reason that the origianal a hit in the '70's was that 5-0 dealt with crooks, smugglers, and terrorist who were bigger and badder than the local police could handle. Now, 40 years later, what do you think bad guys like that would be capable of. The new show looks like it will be as big a hit as the original.

My hubby and I actually were in Vegas last month and they had this as one of the pilots that they payed you to watch and rate at TV City at MGM Grand. I really liked the Dano character--he was funny..but the guy who plays the main character "Commander-somebody", he is a really dry actor. The plot and special effects were good but I don't think the series will take off because of how awful the casting is for the one guy.
