Well, he's no Peter Fonda, who actually went overseas to fight despite being 37 and having kids as well, but he sure looked like a hero in film, even if he wasn't actually heroic at all.
@LazlosPlane Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status, classified as 3-A (family deferment). If this doesn't make you feel proud to be an American, nothing will. I'm 18 so I obviously didn't grow up with him, but I still get teary eyed and smile when I hear this.
Colton, you are correct. The Russian army was in terrible shape after the purge of the 30's. They had terrible leaders (Stalin) and obsolete equpment.
Lot buffalo is correct. If the Germans had captured Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad, they were points of geography in Russia. One city does not consitute victory. Every city must be taken step by step and if the rulers are not divine and compassionate, they to shall fall.
@Direcktor59 Take Russian who had tried two years earlier in 1939 to attack Finland. And with a greater army than Finland had, Russia got absouletely smashed by Finland, in what is known as the Winter War.
If you think Germany would be in control of Russia if they would have reached moscow... you don't understand Russians. If the Germans had seized Moscow, they wouldn't control Russia, They would be surrounded.
Russians control Russia, Moscow doesn't control Russia. Same as in the USA...If any enemy captured Washington DC, they would not control the country, only a city. Any enemy of the US or Russia must defeat every armed citizen...impossible
@lostbuffalo Considering that one Russian officer said to his men, "if you need a rifle get it from the Germans" that wouldn't have been harmed. Consider the sides the German Wehrmacht very well armed and inspired by Hitler's amazing speeches. For the Russians they were ill armed reduced in number and they were not too fond of Stalin who unlike Hitler wasn't likeable and killed his own men.
John Wayne had a right to criticise the Nazis but not Hitler. Hitler was as much as patriot to Germany as John Wayne was to America. Hitler had won two Iron crosses for his bravery and was a fantastic speaker who realised great speaking isn't done by just rhyming. Yes Germany did some awful things in the war but their bravery was unquestionable.
There really is nothing nice about USA You go to the hospital you have to pay The dollar is the language that they all speak they don't really bother about the radiation leak FUCK THE USA They keep their secrets undercover the rich don't bother about those that suffer this ain't the land of milk and honey cause all they want is money money money FUCK THE USA
@hell45042 You need crawl back into the hole you came from. We are the greatest republic in the history of the world. If you want something for free go on welfare. Why not get a job like the hundreds of millions of us who earn there keep. Try Vietnam or Iraq, I fought in both those countries . The first time when I was 18, losing blood and a great deal of my hearing. While you are a blubering idiot, you have the right to free speach.. it is guaranteed, I gladly shed my blood for u to have it.
i just wanna say i really like the usa and i got some real good friends over there. but when some of you think you are so superior to the rest of the world it just makes me wanna puke
The Duke, Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart, Cagney and Hope ... all the real MEN of Hollywood are gone, replaced with low-life scum. That's one reason why I don't go to see movies any more ... there are no more REAL actors. I salute you John Wayne ... you were one of the great ones!
@cooncat3 Or in the case of men like Tom Selleck or Gary Sinise they are just not offered big movie deals often because they are conservatives. Hollywierd sucks...
@cooncat3 I totally agree with you. The real men of Hollywood of old have been replaced by the likes of Sean Penn, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and other America hating left wing scum !!!
@kentuckycowboy1 He was a draft dodger who snitched on many of his mates and couldn't film in the afternoon because he was "a mean drunk". Yeh as you said " a great American hero"
MAY GOD BLESS and MAY GOD BLESS great of Poland for Generals od the George Washington Army like Gen Kosciuszko i Pulawski In 1783, Kosciuszko was appointed Brigadier General and was awarded the Cincinnati Order Medal by General George Washington, Washington also presented Kosciuszko with two pistols and a sword as gifts for his outstanding service to America.Kosciuszko was a firm believer of equality and requested that the money from his estate be used to buy freedom for slave
@dellboy....people like you crack me up. If you don't like this nation, then go somewhere else. Please feel free to be Russia or Mexico. Oh wait...men and women have died so you can say what you want to say in this free country and you know you cannot do that in most other counties. I pity you fool......nope...on second thought, I don't think I really do.

What a load of bullshit. Another piece of fucking propaganda.
Marion Mitchell Morrison . That's his real name. A made up name for a mdae up nation. America stands for what in the world? Fuck this shit. Freedom for all not just a few.
AMERICA is the greatest place on earth. Freedom is what out forefathers brought to this country. They shed blood for it and it is my duty to do the same if and when we are under attack. I WILL defend her at all costs. Don`t tread on me!!!!!
My mother used to speak polish. My grandfather taught her. He was born here in Omaha but his father came from Lithuania just before the Bolshievic revolution.
Great grandpa Jaskiewicz came to america and changed his name to Jackwin.
As far as I know there are no more Jackwins as my grandfather had all daughters and his brothers had no sons.
Great grandpa Jackwin's brothers and sisters were taken to Minsk by the communists and they lost connections.
You're from Omaha? Cool. I live about 40 minutes north of there.
Rural boy born and raised.
I'm 3/4 German 1/4 Polish myself. Though to be honest Neither of my parents fully spoke German or Polish so I never quite picked up anything except a little here and there.
@dm5997 If I could afford it I would love to bring my mother to Poland for a visit before she is too old to travel She loves being Polish. When Grandpa died a lot of old timers came up to my brothers and I and told us Grandfather was both the toughest fighter and most Generous Honest and Kind man in South Omaha.
This guy was a true icon of the gay community--funny that so few people today know Wayne dated a gay Saudi Arabian dude for years, and apparently loved taking LSD.
I visited America as an exchange student in 2002. I can't explain the impact that country had on a not yet 20 year old who had never been outside his country. The beauty of New England, the welcoming and friendly nature of the people and simply the respect that the Americans had for outsiders won me over to the American side for ever. God Bless the United States of America
That is one thing that I am still thankful for is our acceptance and tolerance of others outside our own borders. (generally speaking. I can't say as much for how we've treated Mexicans with the whole illegal immigrants issue). Though I personally could care less where a person comes from or by what name he/she calls God. As long as he/she treats me with common courtesy and respect as an individual, I will treat them the same.
It's men like John Wayne that make me proud to be and American. Yet it pains me to see how far we have fallen as a nation and as a people. We've let the government run a muk with our economy and think nothing of voting for whoever simply because they have a d or an r in front of their name without paying attention to what they are backing or not backing.
There's no doubt in my mind that Wayne is rolling in his grave right now...

yes, GOD bless America because he is the only one that is going to. everybody else wants to bring America down. because even though we have bad times we are still the greatest country in the world, would you want to live any where else, if so, move
America is a beautiful place to live. and if we can cut down on the immigration it will stay that way. can you tell me any place you would want to live, if you can think of a place then move there. i am afraid that America will become over populated in a few years with all of the illegals coming in, but our government will not fix that so here we go, on a road downhill
@spokeshole Why would he roll in his grave anymore over President Obama than Bush,Clinton Bush senior? I love the duke and I love america. I pray for my president everyday just as the duke would do. No matter what party is in the white house......PEACE
@spokeshole "Duke must be rolling in his grave with Obama as President."
I'm just speculating but do you think after a lifetime of service dedicated to liberty and going through Iran Contra, Battling Communism and seeing America battled through the jungles and perched on the edge of a chasm prepared to fly off into a bright blue sky of peace and liberty...after all that.
Do you think the lord BLESSED Ronald Reagan with alzheimers so in the last of his days of battling evil he could be at peace
What do you think Ronald Reagan would think about the Clinton administration and everything that happens to today as the hard fought liberty we waited for was stolen away. When the Russians won their freedom from communism but Europe fell into socialism and America was being dragged to it with a ring in it's nose and a yoke around it's neck.
RR knew what Bush was about He hated him, He didn't trust him. I don't know if RR knew of GB's involvement in the Kennedy assasination but he knew somptn'
The progessives, liberals, communists, socialists...whatever they call themselves. They tried to implement socialism in America and it wouldn't take. America was too wild and free.
That's why they stayed mostly in new york and the old dominion where their money held sway.
The socialists yankees were looking for a weak country to implement soc. in
They hated Russia because Russia supported the south in the civil war.
The progressives threw American and European socialist power and money behind the Bolsheviks. American schools don't teach that Russia successfully overthrew the Czar and the Nobility, founded a democratic nation and elected a president before the Bolshevik traitors overthrew the new Russian government.
Since then the progressives in America have stolen our freedom creating in America (in the disguise of protecting us from the soviets) what they founded in Russia.
@spokeshole The Duke may be rolling in his grave with Obama, but must have been trying to claw his way out while seeing the kind of government that Bush/Cheney were putting in place.
@maxxrexx Time to step in Maxx...If you are going to ues BIG words to shout out at others, learn which BIG words to use... Its not Repression, foolish boy, but OPRESSION... In either case you are wrong. You have a lot to learn about the world in which you live, I suggest college. AND take classes based in reality, not Activism..
@maxxrexx Well, according to Dictonary(.)com's first two definitions, John Wayne is a hero. RinTinTin and Lassie are fictional characters. John Wayne brought his inspiration to a public stage and inspired Americans like myself. He stands for what America is supposed to be
@Natejitsu I too think the world of John Wayne but he wasn't a hero. I hero puts his life on the line for another. My hero’s don't wear tights and caps. My hero’s wear the uniform of the United States Military, law enforcement, fire fighter etc... Selfless sacrifice is what makes a hero. John Wayne was a patriot and an inspiring figure.
@jjack7a Although I agree with you, I would say that according to the official definition of a hero, Wayne is a hero to many. I mean, if you have a personal definition of a hero, that's fine, but that's your opinion.
@maxxrexx What? When did I make such grammatical errors, and even if I did, only 5 year olds who know they are losing an arguement use language comebacks. Also, I live in a Chicago suburb, that's quite far from the backwoods. And there are different types of heros, man. Some of them inspire greatness in people, and some of them do great things. There was only so much the Duke could do, but he definitely inspired greatness.
@maxxrexx Europeans countries are the ones who invaded other countries; that's in all the books, it's history and there is nothing you can change about that. The United States of America always tried to fix the problems others had, they never invaded others countries. The 2 world wars were europeans make.
I think if most of the people in the world would be like americans, we would all live a better life.
@maxxrexx He's a hero because he wasn't afraid to tell it like it is. He didn't fall to the common, popular belief of blind liberalism that most stars that just want attention from all there sheep do. The characters he played were reflections of himself. You forget about how big of an actor John Wayne was. He would turn down roles because he didn't like them, and directors would practically allow him to change the entire screenplay because they didnt' want to lose him.
@maxxrexx Yes I am, but if you look up John Wayne, you'll know that he only played in parts that he agreed with politically, not to mention he wrote a few conservative soliloquys into movies that he was a big part of. Look up his objection to High Noon (excellent movie, regardless of inner meaning) and a couple other movies.
@maxxrexx Just because he did some real estate in Mexico, and couldn't get into the military (which he tried to do) doesn't mean that he doesn't live up to his Americanism. Today's actors are just serious Anti-Americans. I'd actually be somewhat happy if there was a new HUAC, just because I knew so many bad actors would be deported (not because of communist fear).
John Wayne DID try to enlist, Tommytruth. He had an old football injury that made him ineligible. When he found that he couldn't go, he made a special trip to Washington DC to try and change their minds... but they wouldn't take him. He then spent the next several years entertaining American troops in war zones around the world. Too bad people have nothing better to do with their time than to denegrate a fine American patriot like Mr. Wayne. John... you were and always will be THE MAN!
It was back in the 60's when John Wayne come to Atlanta for the 4th of July parade. I was able to meet him and shook his hand. i was about 11 years old and his hand covered my hand like a blanket. But I never forgot that day. And to this day I still feel honored by the thought that I shook John Wayne's hand. And there is no one actor today I can think of that would give me the save honor. I also shook David Jensen's hand that day. Was I lucky or what? lol.
I display this at least once a week on my Facebook, if not many times more... I love this land we call "America"... I salute those courageous citizens who have fought and still continue to fight for mine and my families freedoms...thank you I say...yes... thank you...☺♥☺♥☺♥☺♥☺
I'll say it plain and simple. I thought John Wayne was one damn fine actor. I wish he was still alive today. We need so many more people like him. He would get up and tell Obama what he thought rather than pussy foot around. A true American hero.
the heat index is 108 degrees here. my central air conditioning went out on friday, it's sunday. i think my 3 teenage kids, my wife, and myself need to give thanks that our air-conditioned and pampered asses live in a country where we have a/c and have the money to get it repaired. GOD BLESS AMERICANS!
When war broke out, John Wayne tried to enlist but was rejected because of an old football injury to his shoulder, his age (34), and his status as a married father of four. He flew to Washington to plead that he be allowed to join the Navy but was turned down. So he poured himself into the war effort by making inspirational war films - among them The Fighting Seabees, Back to Bataan and They Were Expendable.

Don't forget the Flying Leathernecks, Sands of Iwo Jima (One that is still used to date in military training) and Flying Tigers. The latter movie I wash that they would have stayed away from when they made the movie Hot Shots.Charlie Sheen might be a funny actor at times but imo Hot Shots seemed to make a mockery of those that struggled to fight and die in the Asian theatres during WW2.
Those that don't think so try watching both movies. Hot Shots is a disgrace.
lazlos you may be right but FUCK YOU all the same hes done more to bolster the American spirit when nothing else is than anything you could posssibly do so like i said FUCK YOU.
America home of the brave we kicked those nazis down the graves we R mighty and true we'll fight for freedom the red white and blue because we R mighty and badass Patriouts through and through just when you think the americans done here comes our war eagles F16 blazen with rockets seeing you cowards run this country will never break or bend we mean business together we march there is no end we are ferocious in battle mighty and mean we love the USA let freedom ring!!!
You morons still idolizing this cowardly draft dodger? This phony "Hero" who hid in Hollywood while REAL heroes died on the battlefields of Europe??? Even his own wife claimed Wayne was trying to play the "super patriot" to make people forget his cowardice. His friend, John Ford, never forgave him for hiding.
Fuck this hypocrite and you hero worshippers. The real heroes are in the cemeteries at Normandy, the Ardennes, the Bulge, and Dunkirk.
Beautiful! God bless America! We need God's blessings more than ever. "And crown Thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shing sea". God, please change the hearts and minds of those who seek to destroy my wonderful counrty...amen.

Colton, you are correct. The Russian army was in terrible shape after the purge of the 30's. They had terrible leaders (Stalin) and obsolete equpment.
Direcktor59 11 months ago
Lot buffalo is correct. If the Germans had captured Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad, they were points of geography in Russia. One city does not consitute victory. Every city must be taken step by step and if the rulers are not divine and compassionate, they to shall fall.
Direcktor59 11 months ago
@Direcktor59 Take Russian who had tried two years earlier in 1939 to attack Finland. And with a greater army than Finland had, Russia got absouletely smashed by Finland, in what is known as the Winter War.
Colton8646 11 months ago
If you think Germany would be in control of Russia if they would have reached moscow... you don't understand Russians. If the Germans had seized Moscow, they wouldn't control Russia, They would be surrounded.
Russians control Russia, Moscow doesn't control Russia. Same as in the USA...If any enemy captured Washington DC, they would not control the country, only a city. Any enemy of the US or Russia must defeat every armed citizen...impossible
lostbuffalo 11 months ago
@lostbuffalo Considering that one Russian officer said to his men, "if you need a rifle get it from the Germans" that wouldn't have been harmed. Consider the sides the German Wehrmacht very well armed and inspired by Hitler's amazing speeches. For the Russians they were ill armed reduced in number and they were not too fond of Stalin who unlike Hitler wasn't likeable and killed his own men.
Colton8646 11 months ago
John Wayne had a right to criticise the Nazis but not Hitler. Hitler was as much as patriot to Germany as John Wayne was to America. Hitler had won two Iron crosses for his bravery and was a fantastic speaker who realised great speaking isn't done by just rhyming. Yes Germany did some awful things in the war but their bravery was unquestionable.

The sad thing is though, not everyone does.

The socialists yankees were looking for a weak country to implement soc. in

@maxxrexx Well, according to Dictonary(.)com's first two definitions, John Wayne is a hero. RinTinTin and Lassie are fictional characters. John Wayne brought his inspiration to a public stage and inspired Americans like myself. He stands for what America is supposed to be
Natejitsu 1 year ago
@Natejitsu I too think the world of John Wayne but he wasn't a hero. I hero puts his life on the line for another. My hero’s don't wear tights and caps. My hero’s wear the uniform of the United States Military, law enforcement, fire fighter etc... Selfless sacrifice is what makes a hero. John Wayne was a patriot and an inspiring figure.
jjack7a 1 year ago 2
@jjack7a Although I agree with you, I would say that according to the official definition of a hero, Wayne is a hero to many. I mean, if you have a personal definition of a hero, that's fine, but that's your opinion.
Natejitsu 1 year ago
@maxxrexx What? When did I make such grammatical errors, and even if I did, only 5 year olds who know they are losing an arguement use language comebacks. Also, I live in a Chicago suburb, that's quite far from the backwoods. And there are different types of heros, man. Some of them inspire greatness in people, and some of them do great things. There was only so much the Duke could do, but he definitely inspired greatness.
Natejitsu 1 year ago
@maxxrexx Europeans countries are the ones who invaded other countries; that's in all the books, it's history and there is nothing you can change about that. The United States of America always tried to fix the problems others had, they never invaded others countries. The 2 world wars were europeans make.
I think if most of the people in the world would be like americans, we would all live a better life.
AsphaltCowboySpirit 1 year ago 2
@maxxrexx He's a hero because he wasn't afraid to tell it like it is. He didn't fall to the common, popular belief of blind liberalism that most stars that just want attention from all there sheep do. The characters he played were reflections of himself. You forget about how big of an actor John Wayne was. He would turn down roles because he didn't like them, and directors would practically allow him to change the entire screenplay because they didnt' want to lose him.
Natejitsu 1 year ago
@maxxrexx Yes I am, but if you look up John Wayne, you'll know that he only played in parts that he agreed with politically, not to mention he wrote a few conservative soliloquys into movies that he was a big part of. Look up his objection to High Noon (excellent movie, regardless of inner meaning) and a couple other movies.
Natejitsu 1 year ago
@maxxrexx Just because he did some real estate in Mexico, and couldn't get into the military (which he tried to do) doesn't mean that he doesn't live up to his Americanism. Today's actors are just serious Anti-Americans. I'd actually be somewhat happy if there was a new HUAC, just because I knew so many bad actors would be deported (not because of communist fear).

The latter movie I wash that they would have stayed away from when they made the movie Hot Shots.Charlie Sheen might be a funny actor at times but imo Hot Shots seemed to make a mockery of those that struggled to fight and die in the Asian theatres during WW2.
