Derren had two others on standby, Thego.. She turned out to be the most televisable candidate. Who knows if she was first choice? The person before her backed out perhaps? Derrens no slouch when it comes to contingincies. Multimillions of potential sales are at stake here. He learned that lesson, with the 'live bullet in the gun' fiasco. No-one rushing to re-watch that one. If you Film/Record any twelve 'drop-out' pianists, one of 'em at least, will give you a show. Realists rule OK!

Pause the video when he shows the words to the camera...if you look at each word upside down you'll notice that one way reads Trick, and when you flip it...it says Treat

unbelievably true, the words are written so that when the card is rotated 180 degrees its says the opposite of what he first showed that card to be as. ( see for your self, pause the video at 1:06-1:107 and rotate that image 180 degrees in your head clockwise, it will definitely be the opposite word )

I like other tricks of Derren, but this is a cheap one. Definitely running out of ideas. The lady is a professional piano player (pls, google her and you will see...). It is very easy to play "low skilled" when you are skillful. The really hard one is the opposite. Would Derren be able to build a skill using hypnotic skills?

Each card is an ambigram- it says 'trick' when held in a certain way and, when turned upside down, it looks like 'treat.' It doesn't matter what card is picked - he just has to turn it upside down.

ya sure, but the programs focal point of interest was her leap in skill and technique, i mean listen to her before, shes playing at a level below grade 1, then in the performance her technique is almost flawless, seriously you have to practice to get that fluid at some of the lines she played.

Of course we all got that. But, this trick lacks merit. It is very easy to act as you have "forgotten skills", anybody could do that in any art or sport. How about the other way? Bringing a novice and making a pro through hypnosis? That would be quite a thing!

Both cards have an ambigram of the word Trick one way up, and Treat the other way up. Google "ambigram."

But i'm pretty sure that he only has one up showing treat and one showing trick, in one of them you can clearly see it, so it doesn't matter whether you can turn them upside down and they change the word. It just makes it seem stranger, more "magical"

True, but it the way in which you turn the card over matters too. You can flip it on its vertical axis (and the image will remain unchanged) or you can flip it on the horizontal axis (and with that, you change the word on the card.) All in all, Derren has full control of your choice :D

I agree. It has a wonderful and rich human kindness behind it. How he could heal, and transform and build up people who doubt themselves! It is in this mode that he is superb. The nastier tricks are pranks done by a perverse child, rather like a manipulative, frustrated school bully. His talents are split between true light and very deep darkness.
