Great video - I just picked up a stock S12 for $720 ( best price I could find locally in Denver and it was tough to find - most shops are sold out) did the bolt / rail polish, figuring out my conversions next
@MrBurnTec- YOu have to strip em down to clean them... unless you half ass it. It really isnt that hard . I am sure you could do it just fine. Take the initiative and get in there and if you are unsure about something you could find a field strip video on youtube for most firearms.
@MrBurnTec - Yea its stupid. You wonder, why is a government scared of its citizens? They must not be doing something right, therefore they dont want their citizens to stop them so they disarm you. Thats how I look at it. I think EVERYONE should be armed, if that were the case we would eventually weed out the criminals.A government who wants its citizens disarmed must be a corrupt one
Ray is an excellent, gunsmith and performs all of the gunsmithing on my tools and also built my Saiga. He was building these long before it was fashionable. I am sure there are a lot of great gunsmiths out there but he is the only one I trust my tools to!
A combat shotgun is better in close quarters than a basic shotgun, shorter length. Also you can add flashlight, holographic sight, Door buster attachments and so on.
Great video! I just finished my Saiga 12. I did mostly the same procedure; except once I had the rear trigger guard rivet gridded down (used dremel) I used a crescent wrench and turned the trigger guard while it was still on the rifle. It worked just like when you used the vice. That exposed the forward rivet and I dremel it. Thanks again!
BTW, what kind of paint are you using? I need to fix the paint on mine.
I love what you're doing...I have a finicky Saiga12 myself, so I'm hoping to learn a few things.
As an aside, whenever you're working on items under spring tension (or hammering), you should wear eye protection - I see you rememberd it when you did the vice work, but not during the original disassembly. I don't want you to change your YouTube name to OneEyedIraqVeteran8888 :-)
I would give almost anything to take my Saiga to your workbench so you could teach me what you know, I do plan on getting my AS in Gunsmithing out in Cali. Consequently the state with the worst ownership regulations and infriengements on freedoms has the college with the BEST curriculum out of the 4 NRA sponsored colleges. Great vids!
Great videos, but you (we) really need better lighting!! Always have a good light source BEHIND the camera when filming anything in detail. From my view, most of your details are unfortunately in darkness.
@Iraqveteran8888 My monitor is plenty bright. I was referring to seeing details of your work, not overall lighting. Your overall lighting is great, but unless you hold a piece up to the camera, the details and innards of your work are dark and shadowy. Inadequate lighting is very common, and unfortunate for the time it takes to make videos and get them uploaded. I'm just trying to give feedback to help make future videos that much better. Great videos, great information, thank you!
@StevenMartin1966 Noted...Bear in mind also that this video is being recorded on company time by a professional gunsmith complete free of charge to the consumer...I helped him film a few parts where close up shots were very necessary, but I will take the constructive criticism for what it is and next time we will get closer shots.
ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!! Love it! Thank you for posting this amazing video! I have a Saiga and the level of mods shown here is amazing! One of the best videos so far. Please, please, keep them coming.
