@zorgfleeter Ok, I leave the irony aside: Isn´t that a bad feeling? Being overrun just because of standing in the way and then being proud of having protected the escape of those ywho were guilty for dragging Belgium into this?
Britain was not responsible for dragging Belgium into this mess. When uncle Adolph started to make his blunder, no one shown enough balls to punch him and make him stop right away. That's why Belgium - and all the others - were dragged into this.
@Briselance Belgium had as many troops facing the French as it did the Germans until the end of 1939. Poor planning before the assault led to the defeat.
Oh but they tried. Given they had almost no armored force to speak of, and that most of their Airforce got bombed and destroyed on the ground, they did well. Their "Chasseurs Ardennais", who were just a handful, managed to stop Guderian - or Rommel, I can't remember - in the Ardennes for 2 days.
Only 60 ? Damn. Where did you read that figure ? I'm just amazed. I know they were not many at all. But just 60, managing to stop Rommel's forces for one day ... sound like Thermopylae.

@fliegerfaustkanonier who do u think held long enough to get the british expeditionary force out of belgium?
zorgfleeter 1 year ago
@zorgfleeter I don´t know. Maybe the weather or bad road conditions?
fliegerfaustkanonier 1 year ago
@fliegerfaustkanonier the belgium army held its ground long enough so the british expeditionary force could escape.
also occupied some forts in belgium wich the germans force didnt take but rather left it to there rearguard

@Briselance it was the famous ROMMEL! For one day, his army was halted, only by 60 Belgium soldiers!

@Briselance The Belgium army released some books after the war (1955) about the invasion and fighting of May 1940.
Nr 2A of this series is “The fighting at CHABREHEZ”.
In this book you can even read their names and what has happened when them. It takes you to their shelters, PC’s and MG posts.
There is even a copy a drawing made by Rommel of this battle.
If you are very, very lucking, on Ebay …. :-)
Thx for posting! CU!
