I was in 8th grade when I first heard this song. It was played in my US history class. That was at Stanford Middle School in Long Beach CA. That was the 2006-2007 school year. Hahaha damn time goes by so fast.
everybody said they heard it in the 8th grade imy teacher played this like 2 months ago for our class and im in thee 11th grade but now this is my new fav song
The Appaloosa shall always live on! My first horse was an Appy. He's retired now. I sold him a few years ago but kept in touch with his owner and got to see him, last time I saw him he was happy as a clam, perfectly sound, and acting like a 5 yr. old even though he is 24!
Fred Small you still rock!! I saw you in concert many times at Christ's Community Church in Chicopee, Ma. My brother's favorite song for you to sing was Larry the Polar bear, his name is Jimmy. I have your CDs and now have them on my ipod. I want to thank you for putting this music spirit in me.
My first and only horse My girl. I loved her. Part Nez Perce and an 8th grade teacher, thank you for this tribute, it is beautiful to see and remember My Girl. She was the best.
The appaloosas still LIVE ON!! I was an appaloosa in my last life I believe I faught and was killed in the war you may think this is stupid but not to me...I believe in it!
im not trying to be rude and you did a great job on your project but a little known fact is that the nez perce got their appaloosas from the shoshone. i say this because i am shoshone and its just something you wouldnt really find on the internet but great job :)
wow! lol we did this 4 a history project! we all made a amusic vid! we were put into 5 groups 4 the 5 verses and i had verse 2! and my other friends had verse 1 and 3! it was so much fun! thanks so much
What a joy to see this on you tube and so well done. Fred Small is a genius in writing historocal and meaningful songs. He is now a Minister and still following that path of justice and commemoration of wrongdoings.
To me this song has always brought a tear to my eye---a most moving piece.
My A.P. teacher loves Native American history and has a beautiful presentation of this he devotes a lot of time studying Native American history. This song has always given me chills and always reminds me of how horrible the Native American policy has been this is truly a amazing and beautiful ballet the one thing really sad that I don't think this song states is that the Nez Perce were only 20 miles from the canadian border when they were caught.
The Appaloosa has always been one of my favorite breeds of horse. They're so beautiful, colorful, and strong. They have one of the saddest histories of all, though. When I look at episodes like this in American history, it makes me furious. If we are truly the land of the free, then why did the government commit genocide against peaceful people? No amount of apologies for such a horror can ever be enough! I am part Cherokee. Something similar happened to my ancestors, too.
Nice job! I love this song and your images help to bring it to life (especially considering your time restraints). I might show it in my history class (I'm a teacher). Well done -- made me cry!
thank you so much for sharing this amazing piece of work with us all. in 1994 i cycled west to east across the good old u.s.a. and i picked up the Nez Pearce Indian trail, and followed it for many days, sleeping rough where possible in the same camp grounds that they used. this has brought memories flooding back to me, and i must adimit many tears of sadness and joy. thanks again from a now grandad in dear old blighty.
You did an excellent job on this. Wish you had time to put more different Appaloosas on it tho. I have been raising these great horses for 45 years and this video brought tears to my eyes. Proud of your video.
Funny, I did this as my class project, in 1976--only there wasn't any internet or Youtube, or hardly any computers, back then, I had to use model horses and photos on an overhead projector.
Yeah, I recently did a project, except we didn't actually do a real music video. We just acted out to the music. It was cool, anyway. That was about a month ago, and STILL some of the other students are singing that. I still have the lyrics. :)
Love this vid! I have an appy gelding and hes the best! They are such versatile horses. My appy does eventing, reining, games (like gymkhana games), trail, and pole bending! Well, we only actually compete in eventing, but he can still do all those things!
Absolutely love it. Appys have got to be on my top fav list of horses. I used to own an appy and he was the best horse ever, always willing to please.
were did u get these lyric it is so cool if i ever get a history project or anything i am going to do it on the appaloosa i have a appaloosa she has gto nental problems because she was abused but none the less i would not trade her any horse in the world!
I really appreciate your video, cause i am nez perce. I'm related to Chief Joseph and Chief Looking Glass. I'm going back to Idaho for a memorial service. And last summer i was there for the Warriors memorial. I am very proud of my families history, and i really appreciate you putting out a piece of our history for the world to watch. Thank you, i shall fav and save this vid.
