  • Is this Spectrum display? These numbers above the analyzer are in a third colour, and it is impossible wihout using multicolour tricks, and multicolour can't be displayed while playing digital music.

  • Please read the comments from 10 months ago.

  • Search for the video 'Something kinda Spectrum'. That clip can run on a ZX Spectrum but it needs an interface like the DivIDE to read the data from IDE media. The author solved the problem by hiding very small AY samples on each video frame. This is the last time I add non-Spectrum video to a clip. People can get confused. :D

  • Btw, will not work on Spectrum 16K.

I even think it would handle some extremly small MOD-like file but SampleTracker doesn't allow to compile it into so low memory.

  • Thanks for pointing that out. But one thing is certain. The 16K Spectrum can play something with this quality, but a shorter tune of course. :)

One day I'll convince someone to develop a sample player for the Zon AY interface for the ZX81. I want to see people's faces when they hear the ZX81 playing digital music! :D :D

  • Well, I wonder myself if it's possible. We should remember that ZX Spectrum is like Amiga500 - it has slow-RAM and fast-RAM. Every operations on 48K model and 128K model are beeing proceeded on fast-RAM only (over 69000 tacts on 48K and over 70000 on 128K).

  • Meanwhile - the slow-RAM (the only RAM of ZX16k) operates *only* with speed 56560 tacts which is painfully slow. The same goes to ZX81 - it has 3,5 Mhz CPU but I suspect it might have less tacts than Spectrum48. If so - then playing 3chnls sample-music on ZX16k and ZX-81 can be problematic. :(

  • Something that I forgot to add: The animation is not from the Spectrum, but a video capture of Goldwave, the audio editor that I used to playback the file. On a real Spectrum the AY uses 100% of the CPU to play this specific tune and nothing moves on the screen. :) There is a way to play digitized video and audio with a little bit less quality, but that's another story. :)

  • Wow. Bloody excellent!

  • Indeed. There have been some new developments regarding digitized audio and video on the Speccy. I hope this stuff will be used in future demos, group meets, etc.
