He has ended up being one of my best mates in the Army, and has been one of the most reliable soldiers I have ever worked with. One argument that didn't occur to JT that I wish had, was that the second point Skyy made about soldiers falling in love could be applied to heterosexual soldiers as well. In fact its worse with them, because they run the risk of pregnancy.
If they want to segregate gay men and woman to separate showers, I think that's fine. But I think separate units is going too far.

that's a strange proposition.. i mean, if you create a gay unit, then you have higher probabilities of men in that unit being attracted to other men within that unit.. isn't that what are they trying to block? it would be like putting straight dudes with straight girls and making a unit out of it. I'm not sure that's the most effective way to deal with it.. any thoughts?

I think gay has a much broader meaning in the military. Supposedly, if you do not show an active interest in women, then you are considered gay. I am not a gay man but yet I was "considered" to be one.
That's blown out of the water because if I was gay, then guys like J.T. would start hitting me up. I'm pretty sure gay men don't go after straight men, so there's nothing to worry about there.

I've heard of don't ask don't tell but I didn't think it actually existed in this day and age, This of course is partially due to my lack of knowledge about the military, but it just seems stupid. We allow women in the army, that much I know, so why keep gay people out? the same idea of attraction exists so why should it be a problem here. If people are willing to fight why stop them for stupid reasons?

The concept of a segregated unit is so repulsive and backwards that it's hard to find the words to describe my disgust. Were there black units, yes. But There SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN!!! That was the lesson that we were supposed to have learned. We are stronger, smarter and faster together. Don't institute policies that keep us apart.

Women don't need to be subjected to being seen naked by other men because it might embarrass them, etc. They have different body parts.
