It's true- a lot of babies like to experiment with head rocking or banging, realizing that they can get a kind of natural high from it. It's probably nothing to worry about. But like your pediatrician said, always keep an eye on it.
My baby is fine now. He sometimes does this shaking, but it seems he is just doing that for fun, and if I say his name while he is shaking his head, he will stop and look at me. If you talk to your baby while he/she is shaking head and he/she will stop, then there should be no serious problem. I learn this from Internet.
I once had the same concern you are having now. The ped told us to keep watching it for a while, as some babies have strange behaviors and that is quite normal.

My baby does this too. I am so worried about it. Just doesn't seem right and the doctors don't seem to care! How is your baby doing now?
