This injury looks very similar to that of Willis Mcgahee's back when he was at the U. Hopefully Irby can come back and finish off his athletic career with Texas!

damn... i tore my acl last year and that was so so painful. it looks like he tore just about every ligament he had i there. thats gonna take a few surgeries and around 18 months to rehab and even then, the psychological steps you need to get past plays a big part as well
Sad situation. Blaine, when healthy, is one of the best TE's in the country, and he was going to be the next great Texas TE after Bo Scaife, David Thomas and Jermichael Finley. I hope he can recover and get his career back on track. TE's have always been an integral part of our offense.

You could hear the impact from up there and it sounded pretty bad. When he was being carted off the field he let everyone know he was alright by giving a Hook 'Em to the crowd, which he got a standing ovation for. Its going to be tough for him to make it back, but I think he will be able to.

Ive played football for many years as a corner and then a safety,and was never taught to tackle below the knees. To us that is being a chicken sh** He had plenty time to square up and pop him in the mid section, and see that he dropped the ball. Very sad for Irby.
Hey craigtwn! I dont know where you played, but if your coaches told you to tackle like that, that tells me two things....1) You were to small to bring the hit to take them down. or 2) You were to weak to be able to wrap up and bring a player down. That kind of play is dirty and cowardly.

I tore my acl when my knee buckled the wrong way while playing basketball, so I feel for the guy. From what I have read, Irby didn't tear any ligaments, but dislocating your knee is also devastating. That hit looked just like the one put on Willis McGahee in college. What Blaine needs to realize is that McGahee worked his butt off to rehab his leg and has done quite well since entering the NFL. He can do the same, but it's going to be a long road.

I cant decide if it was dirty or not, I know smaller guys are taught to go low, but not that low, its more thigh level. But but I certainly dont think it was an intentional cheap shot just poor technique. NOT TRUE AT ALL! I am VERY familiar with football. That was clearly an incomplete pass, and the ball was on the ground a split-second before the hit. It wasn't the technique I was complaining about, it was the timing. The play was whistled dead a little bit late also. If injuries keep happening with hits like that, it probably will be de-legalized.

i still can't believe how many ppl are saying its all on the DB, you will see them tackle that way IN EVERY GAME!!5'9 maybe 200lb db vs an at least 6'2 245 tight end, yes this is how defensive secondary tackles. i've had the same type of injury on a much smaller scale, i didnt get hit from the front, but my leg got caught the exact same way his did causing hyper extension. and still, BTHOTU

I tore my acl when my knee buckled the wrong way while playing basketball, so I feel for the guy. From what I have read, Irby didn't tear any ligaments, but dislocating your knee is also devastating. That hit looked just like the one put on Willis McGahee in college. What Blaine needs to realize is that McGahee worked his butt off to rehab his leg and has done quite well since entering the NFL. He can do the same, but it's going to be a long road.

I cant decide if it was dirty or not, I know smaller guys are taught to go low, but not that low, its more thigh level. But but I certainly dont think it was an intentional cheap shot just poor technique. Also, the fact that he muffed the catch made it worse, if he had caught it clean he would have been able to brace for the hit, but the extra time spent trying to coral the ball made him completely unprepared for contact.

NOT TRUE AT ALL! I am VERY familiar with football. That was clearly an incomplete pass, and the ball was on the ground a split-second before the hit. It wasn't the technique I was complaining about, it was the timing. The play was whistled dead a little bit late also. If injuries keep happening with hits like that, it probably will be de-legalized.

He didn't go for the ball because he arrived late. He did what corners and safties are taught to do, go for the legs to bring down bigger guys. Do i know for sure if the corner was trying to hurt him? no. However, it doesn't change the fact that this is the way corners are taught to tackle. How could you expect someone 150-180 lbs to stand up and stuff someone who is well over 220...no match

I think they're saying it's dislocated now. I hope thats all, because when I first saw that I didn't think much of it, but then they showed the replays and I thought he had to have blown it all out. Hope he gets well for next season, a great TE is the key to any National Championship team, and this kid is a David Thomas clone.

It is by no means a dirty hit... thats how your supposed to takle.. unfortunatly his foot was in the ground when it happend...You cant really hit a tight end or a wide out high cause usually they will just run over you... He discocated his knee..or knee cap and is out for the year.. but this was not a dirty hit at all.

Dude the tight end outweighs the CB by at least 70 pounds. You are taught to take out the legs of a bigger player especially a TE. If you don't he is just going to run your ass over and take it to the house. It is a bad injury but it happens. Hope he makes a full recovery though.
