@PF1964 i would definitely say that the champ is better.. it's got more diversity, but less knobs so you'll need some pedals and an eq to get the sounds you want out of it, but the tubes scream with less juice and once you get there, it sounds delicious.
@PF1964 You have to change the tubes, but don't let that change your mind...warm tones and changing tubes vs crappy sound is a no brainer if you care about sound
being on the left side doesn't make a signal mono. it'd still be mono if it was on both sides, or better put, on the center. why he panned it all the way to left, no idea.
Don't want to be nasty or anything but...the amp tone with no pedal is far superior to the mess the pedal makes. Maybe good for certain tracks or at low volume but I wouldn't want to listen to it all night...just my opinion.
@thepicouse - sure. I can't remember the exact settings, but usually I have mids/bass at about 6, treble at 7, vol at 4 and master at 4. Reverb usually around 2.
you can either use your pc or your console to connect the mic to. if you have a good souncard it will be sweet with the mic if its not that good it will distort the mic's sound.
How do you record stuff you play with a mic to the amp? What kind of gear do you need, beyond the mic and amp? You connect the mic to your pc right? I'm very interested in recording my stuff, but I don't really know how to do it, and I don't really know anyone IRL who can explain this to me correctly. Help please? :o)
I have a Shure SM57 too and noticed that it seems to input a pretty low signal. You should be able to amplify it with the Firebox/Cubase. Otherwise, do what the pros do and get a mic preamp and run it in front of the firebox. I plan to! Presonus makes a cheap one called the TubePre.
Really nice warm tone and great player. Love a good guitarist with a lot of feel. How does the pedal handle higher end volumes... does it get a lot of feedback or just hum?
Nice tone mang, I had bought an od808 but it sounded like rubbish for me..... I probly was expecting a distortion when its only a light overdrive box.... than again tho ive always hated the nano pedals, it seems to have been my own fault because your od808 sounds waaay better :S
Well 2 months ago i was using an od808 than i grabbed a metal muff cause i wanted somthing with alot of grit, than i realized thats too much grit for me, so im settled on a PV windsor studio with a bigmuffNY, what about you musicfuse?
Wow, I always assumed they had a true. Oh well, I'm still getting one. They're incredibly good at tightening up distortion and giving a good crunch tone.
I got to try something like this too. I recently got a MOTU Ultralite.
How did you sync the video and the audio? Not that it really matters, cause for all intents and purposes it was a static shot.
The Maxon OD808 is alright. I recently bought an MI audio Blues Pro pedal. Hands down my favorite OverDrive pedal, and I have a TS-808 and a Klon, so that definitely says something. The Blues Pro is comparably much cheaper as well.
Yeah, I think I shall. I haven't put up a video in a coons' age.
Yeah, that Blues Pro was a real diamond in the rough. I tried it out at the request of my favorite guitar shop owner. I like it cause it grits up your sound in a subtle way, plus there is no mid-range boost like there is in the TS-808 and the Klon. I was really surprised at the price. It only cost me $120 US here in Hawaii.
It does the bulk of my work now, while the Klon is now a boost and specialty pedal for certain songs.
How loud were you cranking your Blues Junior at in this video?

@PF1964 Yes.
The XD has more bells and whistles but the Blues Jr is just a better sounding amp.

@PF1964 Blues Junior is louder, XD has better cleans and general versatility

@PF1964 Oh man its sooo much better! A great and pure tube tone/ sound!

@PF1964 from what I've learned from other people and through listening to recordings, I would choose the blues jr over the champ xd.

Do you have to change tubes in a valve amp?
PF1964 1 year ago
@PF1964 yes, every so often. its part of owning a tube/valve amp. maintenance is required (but only a bit)

@PF1964 Yes. Depends on how much you use it/how hard your pushing them. But usually every couple of years.

PF1964 1 year ago
@PF1964 In a word, yes.

@PF1964 they are two very different pedals. One is delay, one is overdrive. You can't really compare them

@PF1964 how do you compare an overdrive with a delay effect ???
Oudl3000 10 months ago
@PF1964 well, the 808 is an overdrive and the dd7 is a delay pedal. how can you even compare the two? they do two completely different things

That bypass sound is great. I'm going to assume the OD808 has a true bypass.
I've always had an affinity towards the OD808's because I see them as a better edition of the tubescreamer, an already incredible pedal.
Garganthanon 2 years ago
It doesn't have true bypass actually - just an extremely good buffer!

Long time no speak Mike!
I synced it by matching up the videos audio with the recording via a few strums. Not the most accurate way but meh.

Maybe you can boost the line out on your presonus? Most interfaces have a line in and line out level control.
