  • This was the first school bus I was ever on. I have a picture of me stepping on this very bus in 1995 on my first day of kindergarten. Can't believe I'd see this bus again. Byram Hills bus # 89. Where is it now?

  • @91Farmall

I wish you had posted sooner... sold the bus a few months back, it is now in Africa, I believe Nigeria to be exact.

  • i remember that buzer for the air brakes till they got full

  • Wow, that noise and stiff cup of coffee. I know how the drivers wake up in the morning.

  • double belt pulleys and belt drive air compressor, ah the good old days. i was a bus driver for 8 yrs and loved int from 83-91, those were good engines. the new ones are just pieces of pure shit, now that im a mechanic IC isnt worth the plastic buses they make

  • dont you just love the sound of the low air buzzer

  • I like the DT466 better than the DT360. I mean they are both good engines I just like the DT466 better.

  • dt 466 sounds better to me

  • i like the DT466 and the DTA360

  • now that is the kind of school bus I'm used to!

  • what is that little oval shaped vent for?

  • The oval shaped vent on the driver's side below the windshield is the air inlet for the cabin heater.

  • That would be a MT 643!!, lol. I knew what you meant. Its a very nice looking Thomas nontheless. I guess I really need to see it better, the valve cover looked a lot like a 360. You'd be surprised how many people don't know about the DT360. A lot of people assume because its an inline 6, that it a 466. I wish we still had those older 466 engines.

  • Over the years, they probably needed a hood or something. They could have possibly retrofitted a 360 in it. All I know is that engine is a 360. I have rebuilt plenty of both 360's and 466's. I'm familiar with the DT466 hood ornament, I wish they still made em like that.

  • It is a DT466, not a DT360. The hood ornament was removed by the district, but I have a replacement. 100% confirmed DT466 and an Allison MT-463 transmission.

  • This IS a DT-466. (Early version)

You can tell by the sound of the cold start and see the missing emblem on the top of the hood.

  • Sorry but that was a 360 international. Both are very similar though. Both straight six diesels

  • Mines a thomas S1700 DT466 but keeps blocking out and when i speed up (15½ miph or higher, it sounds like too much accelleration. This thing needs tuning up.

  • What district was that bus from? It looks so familiar to me.

  • Byram Hills CSD in NY.

  • That's just like the School Bus I rode in on the monthly field trips we had when I was in 5th grade. It was a mini-bus.

It was owned by a special ed teacher, and she drove some students in her class to and from school everyday. She was also the bus driver for our monthly field trips.

Our class and her class went on the field trips together.

  • nice

  • Nice video. Not all new buses don't start in -10 degree weather. My C2 starts right up on the first try. My friends IC CE on the other hand might be sitting there for a while.

  • The IC CE probably has a newer variant of the same engine shown here. The DT466.

  • Most of them do, but the one i was referring to had a VT365, which is a new generation T444E.

  • If the old girl ever comes up for sale please let me know! Please

  • Good cut of a Thomas International ;-)
