@SatanRulezGod We seem to have moved past this and into something worse. Hey did you hear the gulf stream has stalled thanks to the gulf oil spill that was an inside job? The whole area that they poisoned is going to be 1 huge oil refinery and the tax payers are footing the bill. All the conspiring ceos dumped their BP stocks weeks before the explosion and they bought up cleaning companies so they could cash in. Now 40 billion is going to move the poor folks out and the oil companies in.
To simply give thumb up and to favorite does not begin to honor this piece. Lyrically sharp. But the real power is in the selection of images and the placement within the context of the song.
@forloveoffilm Thanks... (this is David. I'm the man who wrote this song.)
I really appreciate that thoughtful and reasonable people "get" this song. It's NOT about religion, but rather a special, undeniable brand of hypocrisy in America. (I've got another song devoted to the concept of "religion".)
Those of you who claim you're Christian and opposed to the right wing, need to speak out a lot louder. You must be culpable for the mistakes of your extremist cousins. Otherwise, you're all in the same boat from the perspective of those who detest organized religion. IMHO, religion is the source of more human suffering than anything else known to mankind. If it's not, then do something positive and change this insanity that infests our country!
Thanks. I's really appreciate it if you would check out these two music videos. they are two versions of the same song with two "slightly" different messages.

This song, once again, strikes the right cord. How can you be Pro-LIfe and support the Death Penalty? (I'm Pro-Choice BTW) How can you say love your neighbor, and gays can't get married? How is Ann Coulter a decent human being? How is being liberal go against the Bible? Even so, a book is a book, and some people take it too seriously, ignoring the fact we should take messages from the Bible, not every word is absolute.
Yes. Good people who actually try their best to live by the teachings of Jesu ben Josef (Jesus) should genuinely love what this song has to say.
The song is about hypocrisy and the hijacking of that beautiful philosophy.
Besides... George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have broken American laws, abandon basic human decency and have been responsible for an amount of death and destruction from which no decent American should be able to turn their head.
You are so right. Thank you so much for making this video. It transends all classes of people. It's a shame a president has to use God's name to win. That IS SACRILIGE. Jesus is crying on us.
No... but during his six years as governor of Texas, this "pro-life", self-professed born-again Christian presided over 152 executions, more than any other governor in the recent history of the United States. He even joked publicly about at least one of them.
I don't know why you said that, this video is not about Hitler or Stalin, there has been plenty of rogues that have ruled nations on this planet, the list would be to long to comment on all of them here, and as far as I'm concerned G.W. Bush jr should be on that list.
And so should Ronald Reagan, he's support for the death squads in Nicaragua who liked to use pregnant women for bayonet practice makes him worthy of being on that list too, thou he's crimes go further than that.

I really understand everyone's frustrations with the "religious right" but please don't paint all followers of the God of the Bible the same. I know believers that don't subscribe to this fake-conservative,"let's bomb them all" Chinese-made flag waving, neo-con trash and get their theology from Limbaugh.
It is unfortunate that Jesus has been dragged through the mud by well-meaning, good-intentioned, but screwed up individuals in places of power. He saved my life, and I love Him. Your video is hard-hitting and well done. I would put it on my myspace site, but my friends probably wouldn't get it. Nice work. David R Banta
Hey David... thank you for "understanding" that this video has NOTHING to do with the good people who actually try their best to live by the teachings of Jesu Ben Josef. (Jesus)
This song is about the "hypocrisy" of this wholly unAmerican oligarchy (Bush administration) and the other hypocrites who have unfortunately high-jacked this philosophy of nearly unparalleled beauty.
"This philosophy of nearly unparalleled beauty" is a truth about a God who loves you and I so much He gave us permission to boldly enter His courts and face Him, through His Son, Jesus Christ. That my friend is a Truth so far from those who have high-jacked, and yet, right there, openly available to you and I. All we have to do is take the gift. It's that simple my friend.
- David: That is YOUR "truth". (But, yes... bad people have highjacked your religion.) Still, that is YOUR truth.
Not mine.
Love is my Truth. Music is my Truth. Kindness is my Truth. Honesty is my Truth. Tolerance is my Truth.
I've got a song on my new CD called "The Religion Song" that explains it better. I will make it a FREE download later this week on my official website. "(That Guitar Man from Central Park)
Hey thatguitarman, I have been thinking for some time of your reference to Jesus being MY truth (implying not yours). But the deal with Jesus is that he himself claimed to be THE truth...absolute Truth. These are his words, not mine: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God), except through me.(John 14:6)" So He claims to be the one and only truth, so to reject that means to reject Him. You do have that choice, but be clear about what He is, and what He claimed.
Again, YOUR truth... and Jesu Ben Josef's truth... if all of the accounts are true. (The only 4 evangelists who's "gospels" were actually accepted by the hierarchy of the church contradicted each other in their accounts of he life of a man who wrote nothing down.) That being said, of course it's YOUR choice to accept what you like.
Ha! Just remind your brethren to keep their "truths" out of "our" government.
It's David... from "thatguitarman dot com" (I'm the guy who wrote the song.)
When introducing this song in concert I always say, "If this song bothers you, there are only 2 possibilities... you either don't 'get the point' - - or it's ABOUT YOU." Ha! Either way... I couldn't possibly care less if you don't dig it.
This song makes no sence we dont bomb countrys because of religion.Nor do we force religion on any body atheist try to make christans look evil the only evil is Hitler Mou and Stalin they were atheist.
fucking retard. of course we dont bomb countries because of religion, we do it for money, but religion is the excuse that our leaders use. also, stop being one of those kids that say hitler was an athiest, he was catholic.
R U stupid?Hitler is a fucking crazy christain...anyway,you give us a perfect example how hypocritical the christains are...whenever the scandal of christain happened, they will just shirk off~good job, that's how jesus the liar taught you.
OK, Junyudolphin? I THINK you're supporting the video. Pretty unclear. You might try laying off the ellipses (...) and stick with complete sentences. Not trying to knock your English skills, but if you're going to go on a rant or tirade, you may want the reader to know who's side you're on.
Wow you dont read very well, do you? The ellipsis' don't hinder the (average) reader from discerning "which side he's on". I think "fucking crazy christian", "hypocritical christian", "scandal of christian", and "jesus the liar" pretty much clear up which side he's on.
I simply: a) did not know whom the poster was replying to, and b) don't make assumptions as to the meaning of unclear sentences. And lastly, although I have learning disorders, it does not prevent me from earning high scores on college finals, or producing songs.
But thanks for assuming I'm an average reader. very PC.
The terrorist have high jacked a religion and are planning on celebrating Independence Day in OUR house this July 4th; now lets hear it for King George the 4th! Rather ironic, wouldn't ya say? Love the video and the song, just hard to smile when it is all so true.
Ahahahhhhahahh.Loved this, too funny, and omg too true. Now that isn't so funny. I fully believe we should change the name of this country to "Jesusland." Let's start a petition or whatever.
there are more full-fledged stalinists in the usa as there are people who fit the lyrics of that song. most of that song displays a profound ignorance of the viewpoint of conservatives and conservative christians.
it only shows how far off the deep end some leftists have gone.
ellwyn - thanks for taking the time to comment. But, before post something like that, be sure to read the synopsis of the video. "JesusLand: A song about a special brand of hypocrisy in America today. NOT a song about true Christianity or Jesu Ben Josef. More about Bush, Coulter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, Robertson, Falwell and the rest." NOT a song about true Christianity or Jesu Ben Josef. Please pay attention. (Maybe one day I'll write a song about Stalinists... this ain't it.)
Wow, blame the leftists again... Original. And here I thought the government was supposed to be a colaboration of left and right. I'm glad current society has so polarized everything that government is now incapable of speaking for the people of the country.
Ya know ellwyn...I don't think so, the song displays exactly what many Christians believe, and that is very sad. 5 stars to thatguitarman for pointing out the obvious.
I understand you conservatives very well! You preach your beliefs in Jesus while hiding your corruption behind a cross! You kill in the name of the Lord! I hope you all join Falwell in the heat of damnation!
as a traditionalist i just dont feel i'm ready to give up all my christian based morals of which our forefathers founded america using, and will fight to keep morals and capitalism within my lifestyle and try to educate people to the point at which they could attain the ability to make their own informed decisions about politics. i'm not ready for an "idealistically based" world
It's really good to see someone your age who cares.
But be careful. When you make statements like, "...my christian based morals of which our forefathers founded america using," you show that YOU are among those you need to educate so "informed decisions" can be made. Your claim that this nation was based on Christianity is flatly untrue. (Regardless, my song is about the "hypocrisy" of the religious-right in this country, not true Christians.)
Oh you mean the non-christian forefathers that founded america? Just because basic human emotions such as morality are shared by many...you know do unto others as you would yourself...does not mean they are christian morals. America is becoming no better than the muslim runned governments which oppress millions, basing politics in a christian foundation.
Great video! As usual, the freepers don't really understand satire or sarcasm. Carter72 actually wants to debate whether or not "Jesus wants us to have guns." Morons like that is exactly why we should not have guns.
pretty good,...funny. Glad i don't live there. The Richard Dawkins series is on telly here at the moment.."The Root of all evil"...think it was one of the first vid's i watched here,,,cheers!
america is getting out of hand with its fundamentalists too, for example, the west borough baptist church that was picketing the dead soldiers' funerals. not saying all fundamentalists are even close to being bad like that of course
Was this video supposed to be comedy? Please say it was meant to be one...
If it wasn't it seems that this video acts like Jesus doesn't want us to be able to have guns... not even like Emily Procter (the blonde at the end) shooting a freaking gun at a shooting range... If anyone thinks that Jesus doesn't want us to have guns, msg me and I will debate it because there is a character limit here.
First I have to say... comedy? Yeah, it makes it's point by taking on a character and singing in the ironically absurd. (Like the laughable notion that Jesu ben Josef, or Jesus, would have condoned the ownership and use of guns.)
And... um... no. The vile blond woman at the end is not actress Emily Procter, but Conservative windbag, Ann Coulter.
Carter72, I mean this is the nicest way possible: you should not be allowed to speak for your stupidity. I'm so thankful that the character limit prevented you from typing any further. I don't think anyone is going to msg you, because you fall under the category of "not talking to on any level." Debating the idea that Jesus condones guns isn't a debate because there is no argument for it. Go rethink your life for about 10 years, then try again.
God is Spirit. We are created in God images, in Spirit. No body can see our Spirit, nor can we see GOD, yet we know that God and our Spirit exist. Eternal life means going back to heaven. In heaven we cannot die again. If we follow the commandments, we all will go back to heaven. Our Spirit will never die unless God decides so.
As if liberals don't have their own flaws. The video was hilarious though. I just wish you would target overall political stupidity instead of polarizing. Thanks though.
Brilliant. Points up the hypocrisy (big word) whereby the evangelicals demean their own faith. ("Don't judge me by the way I live / just live the way I say." Bwahahaha.) Commercialized Christianity and the greedy urge for theocracy threaten both church and state. Be vigilant against irrationality and hate, especially when it masquerades as "God's word."
Living a True Christian life is very hard to do. You must be a well conditioned and determined individual. It is just a state of mind unless you have experienced the Born Again experience like I did. So every individual has there own experiences, thoughts, beliefs and life. But if you had The Living Spirit, you wouldn't care about anything going on in this world except for doing what needs to be done for survival and doing righteous acts for your afterlife.
Thanks for taking the time to write. All have the freedom to worship, wonder, think as they wish. Keep it out of government. Religion coupled with the hypocrisy emerging in the Christian-right-wing of this country are the greatest engines of human misery in the history of civilization.
(Interested in my personal feelings about "religion"... search my official website for one of my newest tracks: "The Religion Song")
WHAT? Did you just say that being a real christian is about watching out for your own ass in the after life??? Not caring about anything going on in the world??? I know ATHEISTS who cry over Dafur and spent 27 months in Africa as a PeaceCorps volunteer because being a good HUMAN is about caring about EVERYONE IN THE WORLD. And those atheist have a better chance of going to heaven then a self righteous born again!!!
I don't care about the things I don't have control over, which is just about everything in this world. What do you have control of? Government? Businesses? Violence? What is it? Also not wanting earthly things except for survival. and doing righteous acts for the afterlife, that's what I said. Do you know what righteous acts for the afterlife means? Everything I said was not hard to understand in the first place. I hoped this has helped.
Basically what I am saying is I am out for my own survival and my families. Doing righteous acts would be, donating time or money to people or places that really need it. I take care of myself and help those who desperately need it. Like going to Africa to help or to spread the Gospel. I was never given an opportunity to go, if I did. I would be gone already.
"if you had The Living Spirit, you wouldn't care about anything going on in this world, except for doing what needs to be done for survival and doing righteous acts for your afterlife."..."FOR YOUR AFTERLIFE" Not to help people because you should, or because you have compassion...but to be a kiss ass who is sure to get a big high five from Jesus when you die. That is NOT honorable. Besides they dont need a fucking gospel, they need food and someone to teach them basic hygene!!!!
fuse that passion with your faith and Seek Jesus with it! something really special might happen to you. have you ever felt The Holy Spirit? if not, then fuse those two together and Seek....and Ye shall find!
This is what I mean. You're assuming that I know nothing about God, or the bible or scripture. But I do. I know it all, proverb to proverb, cover to cover. I dont need a sermon. Its so belittleing of you to ask me about the holy spirit like you're some privilged one and Im an ignorant gentile.
Instead of telling me to seak and I shall find, how about talking to me like Im an equal. Not like Im below you because you can deduce that Im not a christian.
How about you show some real concern for my soul and ask me why I so passionately dispise Organized religion, Know me as a person, Tell me why Christians can be so hateful, Talk to me..Because maybe you have your seat saved in heaven and you know it, so you dont care?
I have a relationship with God. I just think people use his name for personal interest, especially in America. And it makes me sad. Im glad you have a secure faith. But people like you often make the whole concept so uninviting for those who are still looking for it. Im sure your heart is in the right place, but its just not helpful. Thanks for taking the time to post though. I mean that very sincerely. No sarcasm, thank you.
And you only lose your control when you give it up! The minute you say "theres nothing I can do, I dont have any control" is the minute we all become that much closer to being droids that follow what the government does blindly as long as they can front(in the case of alot of people) a "CHRISTIAN" presentation. Im sorry if I rudely belittle your opinion,I get very passionate. But I do respect that you at least have a point of view.
Remember seeing this live in Central Park last year. That set made me fall in love with New York and Central Park on a Saturday in summer. I was originally planning on spending a few minutes watching you sing, which lead to 3 hours till the end of the set.
David you should be an official NY ambassador. From Sydney, Australia, Thanks again
This has NOTHING to do with Christianity or genuinely Christian people - people who try their best to live the teachings of Jesu Ben Josef. This song is specifically about a specific kind of hypocrisy gripping a large percentage of the country these days. (George W. Bush)
More videos on the way. and the new podcast "Where's the Voice" will be up and running soon.
This song is awesome. I don't even like country or whatever style of music you would consider this but this is so awesome. And sadly, so true.

If you don't like Christians, but love christ...
Doesn't that make you self-loathing, seeing what the actual definition of a Christian IS?
And if you mean some kind stereotypical Christian, you...well, it'd be better to specify, if you ask me.

And by stereotypical, I of course mean the kinds of Christians that are in the public eye that this song is about.

Nice work. David R Banta
davidrbanta 4 years ago 2
Hey David... thank you for "understanding" that this video has NOTHING to do with the good people who actually try their best to live by the teachings of Jesu Ben Josef. (Jesus)
This song is about the "hypocrisy" of this wholly unAmerican oligarchy (Bush administration) and the other hypocrites who have unfortunately high-jacked this philosophy of nearly unparalleled beauty.
PEACE
thatguitarman 4 years ago
Hey thatguitarman,
"This philosophy of nearly unparalleled beauty" is a truth about a God who loves you and I so much He gave us permission to boldly enter His courts and face Him, through His Son, Jesus Christ. That my friend is a Truth so far from those who have high-jacked, and yet, right there, openly available to you and I. All we have to do is take the gift. It's that simple my friend.
Peace of Christ to ya,
David R Banta
davidrbanta 4 years ago
- David: That is YOUR "truth". (But, yes... bad people have highjacked your religion.) Still, that is YOUR truth.
Not mine.
Love is my Truth. Music is my Truth. Kindness is my Truth. Honesty is my Truth. Tolerance is my Truth.
I've got a song on my new CD called "The Religion Song" that explains it better. I will make it a FREE download later this week on my official website. "(That Guitar Man from Central Park)
PEACE.

thatguitarman 4 years ago
Hey thatguitarman, I have been thinking for some time of your reference to Jesus being MY truth (implying not yours). But the deal with Jesus is that he himself claimed to be THE truth...absolute Truth. These are his words, not mine: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God), except through me.(John 14:6)" So He claims to be the one and only truth, so to reject that means to reject Him. You do have that choice, but be clear about what He is, and what He claimed.
davidrbanta 4 years ago
Again, YOUR truth... and Jesu Ben Josef's truth... if all of the accounts are true. (The only 4 evangelists who's "gospels" were actually accepted by the hierarchy of the church contradicted each other in their accounts of he life of a man who wrote nothing down.) That being said, of course it's YOUR choice to accept what you like.
Ha! Just remind your brethren to keep their "truths" out of "our" government.

OK, Junyudolphin? I THINK you're supporting the video. Pretty unclear. You might try laying off the ellipses (...) and stick with complete sentences. Not trying to knock your English skills, but if you're going to go on a rant or tirade, you may want the reader to know who's side you're on.
Just a thought.
GeorgeDRange 4 years ago
Wow you dont read very well, do you? The ellipsis' don't hinder the (average) reader from discerning "which side he's on". I think "fucking crazy christian", "hypocritical christian", "scandal of christian", and "jesus the liar" pretty much clear up which side he's on.
vilense 4 years ago
I simply: a) did not know whom the poster was replying to, and b) don't make assumptions as to the meaning of unclear sentences. And lastly, although I have learning disorders, it does not prevent me from earning high scores on college finals, or producing songs.
But thanks for assuming I'm an average reader. very PC.

there are more full-fledged stalinists in the usa as there are people who fit the lyrics of that song. most of that song displays a profound ignorance of the viewpoint of conservatives and conservative christians.
it only shows how far off the deep end some leftists have gone.
ellwyn 4 years ago
ellwyn - thanks for taking the time to comment. (Maybe one day I'll write a song about Stalinists... this ain't it.)
thatguitarman 4 years ago
Wow, blame the leftists again... Original. And here I thought the government was supposed to be a colaboration of left and right. I'm glad current society has so polarized everything that government is now incapable of speaking for the people of the country.

as a traditionalist i just dont feel i'm ready to give up all my christian based morals of which our forefathers founded america using, and will fight to keep morals and capitalism within my lifestyle and try to educate people to the point at which they could attain the ability to make their own informed decisions about politics. i'm not ready for an "idealistically based" world
dasdatmitch07 4 years ago
It's really good to see someone your age who cares.
But be careful. When you make statements like, "...my christian based morals of which our forefathers founded america using," you show that YOU are among those you need to educate so "informed decisions" can be made. Your claim that this nation was based on Christianity is flatly untrue. (Regardless, my song is about the "hypocrisy" of the religious-right in this country, not true Christians.)
thatguitarman 4 years ago
Oh you mean the non-christian forefathers that founded america? Just because basic human emotions such as morality are shared by many...you know do unto others as you would yourself...does not mean they are christian morals. America is becoming no better than the muslim runned governments which oppress millions, basing politics in a christian foundation.

Was this video supposed to be comedy? Please say it was meant to be one...
If it wasn't it seems that this video acts like Jesus doesn't want us to be able to have guns... not even like Emily Procter (the blonde at the end) shooting a freaking gun at a shooting range... If anyone thinks that Jesus doesn't want us to have guns, msg me and I will debate it because there is a character limit here.
carter72 4 years ago
First I have to say... comedy? Yeah, it makes it's point by taking on a character and singing in the ironically absurd. (Like the laughable notion that Jesu ben Josef, or Jesus, would have condoned the ownership and use of guns.)
And... um... no. The vile blond woman at the end is not actress Emily Procter, but Conservative windbag, Ann Coulter.
thatguitarman 4 years ago
sorry, that looked almost exactly like emily procter shooting at the range in the episode of CSI i watched last night... but now i realize my mistake
carter72 4 years ago

P.S.: The "Buddy Christ" rocks.
crlightfoot 4 years ago
Living a True Christian life is very hard to do. You must be a well conditioned and determined individual. It is just a state of mind unless you have experienced the Born Again experience like I did. So every individual has there own experiences, thoughts, beliefs and life. But if you had The Living Spirit, you wouldn't care about anything going on in this world except for doing what needs to be done for survival and doing righteous acts for your afterlife.
christian326 4 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to write. All have the freedom to worship, wonder, think as they wish. Keep it out of government. Religion coupled with the hypocrisy emerging in the Christian-right-wing of this country are the greatest engines of human misery in the history of civilization.
(Interested in my personal feelings about "religion"... search my official website for one of my newest tracks: "The Religion Song")
thatguitarman 4 years ago
And those atheist have a better chance of going to heaven then a self righteous born again!!!
itsokcasey 4 years ago
I don't care about the things I don't have control over, which is just about everything in this world. What do you have control of? Government? Businesses? Violence? What is it? Also not wanting earthly things except for survival. and doing righteous acts for the afterlife, that's what I said. Do you know what righteous acts for the afterlife means? Everything I said was not hard to understand in the first place. I hoped this has helped.
christian326 4 years ago
Basically what I am saying is I am out for my own survival and my families. Doing righteous acts would be, donating time or money to people or places that really need it. I take care of myself and help those who desperately need it. Like going to Africa to help or to spread the Gospel. I was never given an opportunity to go, if I did. I would be gone already.
christian326 4 years ago
"if you had The Living Spirit, you wouldn't care about anything going on in this world, except for doing what needs to be done for survival and doing righteous acts for your afterlife."..."FOR YOUR AFTERLIFE" Not to help people because you should, or because you have compassion...but to be a kiss ass who is sure to get a big high five from Jesus when you die. That is NOT honorable. Besides they dont need a fucking gospel, they need food and someone to teach them basic hygene!!!!

And you only lose your control when you give it up! The minute you say "theres nothing I can do, I dont have any control" is the minute we all become that much closer to being droids that follow what the government does blindly as long as they can front(in the case of alot of people) a "CHRISTIAN" presentation.
