I said the same thing when this aired, they tried to use women in order to match prince's range & none did. the only one I think that did a decent job was janelle monae, (& maybe cuz she sang with prince's energy)

Im not an Alicia Keys fan however, I cant believe all these fools talking trash about her cover of this gem?! I'm glad she covers songs that are timeless and that she appreciates them. It gives me hope for this generation that they can actually find great art to push them.

@gearronvinson First of all Aliciua Keys does not have a terrible voice and her voice was more polished in her younger years. She has a great voice and it's full of passion and emotion. Sometimes she just has pitch problems, but she has a beautiful tone that's why she can get away with it. Stevie Wonder does have a powerful voice, his voice thinned out as he got older.

She was pregnant during this time and her vocal problems began to happen around late 2008 to 2009 and do on. She gave amazing vocal performances more in her prime. "Adore" is absolutely one of Prince's greatest songs ever. I love the fact that Alicia Keys went for it, as far as trying to hit some of those Prince highs. Yes her songs because she wrote them. She knows her limits, she knows what she can and can't do vocally. Therefore she is going to struggle singing other artists, with a high range, songs thus Prince!
@datdude4real1 She was not really singing out of her limits. Her highest note live is a B5 in head voice. She belted a clear G#5 from her Prince Cover of Her Songs in A-minor, How Come You Don't Call Me. It would have been better if she sang that song instead of this song, but I still like it. At 1:07 she hit a G5 in head voice with vibrato daed on. At 1:36 she hit a G#5 in head voice. Those notes were not strained, some of the other notes were, I think her pregnancy affected the diaphragm.

First of all Alicia Keys still has the vocal chops. Most may not consider this a good vocal performance, but I love this performance because it was so passionate. She sings with emotion and sincerity. It may not be technically perfect, but at least when she sings you know that she really means it!
Passionate indeed! I saw her performance for the first time two days ago. Now, I can't get enough of it. What's more, is that although Prince's "Adore" never leaves my mp3 player, I've been listening, I mean REALLY listening to the words and taking it all in after watching Alicia's performance. It's just a really GREAT song.

@primohomme She was way better in the beginning of her career. Her London concert in 2001 was flawless. No strain, no off-key moments, and her belts were rounded and resonant too. She was able to hit clearer notes when she was 20 years old up to I say 26. maybe her technique is not good as it used to be, but she is still great. Please don't be so harsh on her. I hope with her future projects, I hope she gets better.

People try and be so technical with everything, and that's how MUSIC comes out boring. Give me a person with PASSION and SOUL than one with the perfect pitch. Prince's notes are clearly hard to hit, but she did it..and I LOVED her tone throughout the entire song.
NO ONE CARES about middle register..No one is perfect..the point is, her EXECUTION of this song was amazing..I loved it. Prince loved it..and that's ALL that matters.

Yes her songs because she wrote them. She knows her limits, she knows what she can and can't do vocally. Therefore she is going to struggle singing other artists, with a high range, songs thus Prince!

@datdude4real1 She was not really singing out of her limits. Her highest note live is a B5 in head voice. She belted a clear G#5 from her Prince Cover of Her Songs in A-minor, How Come You Don't Call Me. It would have been better if she sang that song instead of this song, but I still like it. At 1:07 she hit a G5 in head voice with vibrato daed on. At 1:36 she hit a G#5 in head voice. Those notes were not strained, some of the other notes were, I think her pregnancy affected the diaphragm.

First of all Alicia Keys still has the vocal chops. Most may not consider this a good vocal performance, but I love this performance because it was so passionate. She sings with emotion and sincerity. It may not be technically perfect, but at least when she sings you know that she really means it!

Passionate indeed! I saw her performance for the first time two days ago. Now, I can't get enough of it. What's more, is that although Prince's "Adore" never leaves my mp3 player, I've been listening, I mean REALLY listening to the words and taking it all in after watching Alicia's performance. It's just a really GREAT song.

He stood up out of respect, plus it was polite! Her vocals are limited but she is a great songwriter, get it right! She didn't do a good job. Don't get it twisted because u guys are big fans of her, u have to listen to the music and not focus on who's singing it!

@SexiFac3 I wonder why Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Roberta Flack, Whitney, etc all Praise Alicia Keys on her voice and musicianship. It's not hardly that it's because it's the music biz, it's because they see something in her. Anytime people of that stature can see greatness in a young artist, it's something great about them. It really doesn't matter on what these wannabe youtube vocal scholars have to say.

@nolanj23 Eh, Actually, I think they will but that's only my opinion. It is an upcoming generation already and they really aren't listening to R.Kelly. I get more goosebumps from Alicia Keys than most artists today other than Mary J Blige, R.Kelly never gave me that feeling TBH. No one will ever be those legends mentioned, but Alicia really has the characteristics and songs that stands the test of time.

@primohomme She was way better in the beginning of her career. Her London concert in 2001 was flawless. No strain, no off-key moments, and her belts were rounded and resonant too. She was able to hit clearer notes when she was 20 years old up to I say 26. maybe her technique is not good as it used to be, but she is still great. Please don't be so harsh on her. I hope with her future projects, I hope she gets better.

Primohomme likes to judge certain singers, especially Christina Aguilera. I just wanted to let him know that she was not always singing like that. Her voice is beautiful and her singing!

People try and be so technical with everything, and that's how MUSIC comes out boring. Give me a person with PASSION and SOUL than one with the perfect pitch. Prince's notes are clearly hard to hit, but she did it..and I LOVED her tone throughout the entire song.

I think she did a good job she didnt hit the falsetto part in the end but who cares, thats the beauty of live performances...I'd rather have a real soul performance with a few hits and misses than an autotuned hotmess performance anyday
