This video is flawed. It is true that the Chinese currency would rise when they sell dollars, but that doesn't mean the price of Chinese goods will rise. The price only changes due to supply and demand. The reason why the price of Chinese goods will rise (for Americans) is because the Chinese (who hold Chinese money) will be buying more of their own product which is cheaper for them. This increase in demand will drive up prices for us; but they'll still have jobs making products for THEMSELVES!

I'm pretty dumb when it comes to understanding this stuff...but couldn't we have just put a tariff or tax on all imported goods? This would encourage Americans to buy products made in the U.S.A. ? And the extra tax paid on these goods would then go into helping pay down our country's debt?

China is using those US dollars to buy up and secure resources around the world. Oil from the Mid-East, Africa, Russia, and South America; Timber from Brazil and other parts of Asia; Metals from Africa... A lot of those other countries whom they're buying resources from are cash strapped anyway and need more financial funding for their own needs.
