  • say i aint all that up on all this test eqwipmnt metersand such . but i thought the red whire was saposed to be in th eother red wwhole thingy on theother sid of the metter ??? to get the amps??? can ya clear me up soem im getn a bit confused rit about here?? thanks !Lloyd

  • @gold2hunt EASY WAY TO LOOK AT THE CONNECTIONS...

    ELECTRIC (CURRENT) IS MEASURED IN AMPS. LIKE WATER (CURRENT) IS MEASURED IN GALLONS PER MINUTE,(GPM). 1 AMP = (6.241 × 1018) ELECTRONS, OR 1 COULOMB PER SECOND.

    THAT MEANS CURRENT IS VOLUME PER SECOND,. ( OR FLOW ). SO TO BE MEASURED, THE CURRENT MUST PASS THROUGH THE METER. PLUGGING THE RED LEAD INTO THE AMPS RECEPTACLE ALLOWS THE CURRENT TO PASS THROUGH THE METER WITH ALMOST NO RESISTANCE.

    LIKE THROUGH A FAT PIPE COMPARED TO A STRAW.

    UNLIKE CURRENT..., (VOLTAGE), IS MORE LIKE PRESSURE. NO VOLUME OF FLOW AT ALL. SO WHEN YOU MEASURE VOLTAGE, IT HAS TO BE CONNECTED TO AN EXTREMELY HIGH RESISTANCE RECEPTACLE. HOPE THIS HELPS. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

    Great video, especially the supporting math. I appreciate that you back up your 'talk' with the supporting 'walk'. Question please, what video editing package are you using ? I like the idea of using the audio as a tachometer. I had a friend who used an oscilloscope and a tape recorder to check the speed of his R/C plane engines in flight. His method was similar to yours. Accurate too.

The bloke who had to pedal the Gossamer Albatross from England to France, he had to pedal at 0.73 Hp to Take-Off & Climb, then maintaining height took0.36 Hp... So, if Boomer saw 300 Watts, output ; at 8:1, that's 2,400 W at the Pedals, without Alt & Drive Losses ! Means a 5 Hp Drew !

NOTHING IS WASTED. I WANT MY TURN NOW THAT THE BUGS ARE ALL WORKED OUT. I WISHED I COULD HAVE STAYED A DAY LONGER. AND I DIDNT HAVE TIME TO RE WRAP THE DRIVE WHEEL BEFORE GOING BACK. WWWHHHAAA!   • @blockme73 THAT'S ZENER DIODE. THE ZENER DIODE IS A DIODE THAT GETS USED IN REVERSE POLARITY. THE REVERSE BREAKDOWN, OR BREAKOVER VOLTAGE IS PRETTY PRECISE TO USE AS A VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THE ARE COMMONLY CALLED BY THE VOLTAGE THEY BREAK DOWN AT, LIKE " 9V ZENER", OR "4.5 VOLT ZENER". THEY ARE USUALLY CONNECTED TO GROUND, AND THE VOLTAGE SOURCE. THE VOLTAGE CAN CLIMB UP TO THE DESIRED VOLTAGE AND ANYTHING OVER THAT GETS GROUNDED OUT.

  • Can you please explain when charging a 12 v battery without a mppt charge controller, is any of the excess voltage over 14.5 wasted ? I can understand the part about the more amps the better for charging. Looks like you had a nice workout without going to the gym.

  • @wtam69 MPPT CONTROLLERS CHARE UP CAPACITORS AND DISCHARGE THEM INTO THE BATTERY BANK. ALSO THEY FIND THE POINT WHERE THE MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY OF THE SOLAR PANEL OR WIND TURBINE IS, AND LETS IT RUN AT THAT VOLTAGE TO CHARGE THE CAPs. THEN THE MAX POWER IS DUMPED INTO THE BATTERY BANK, WHILE THE NEXT CAP IS BEING CHARGED. WITH DIVERSION CONTROLLERS THE SOURCE IS DIRECT CONNECT UNTIL THE BANK IS FULL, THEN DIVERTED TO A DUMP LOAD SUCH AS A WATER HEATER.

    NO THE POWER IS NOT LOST, BUT MORE....

    BUT IF THE WIND TURBINE WAS ALLOWED TO RUN A BIT FASTER TO IT'S OPTIMUM EFFICIENCY, MORE POWER WOULD BE COLLECTED. THE BATTERY BANK DRAWS THE VOLTAGE DOWN TO IT'S VOLTAGE LEVEL. IF THE BLADES ARE NOT MATCHED TO THE ALTERNATOR WELL, THE BLADES CAN STALL OR PARTIALLY STALL OUT, THUS THE WIND ENERGY IS NOT FULLY COLLECTED. IT'S KINDA LIKE DRIVING YOUR CAR IN THE WRONG GEAR. BAD GAS MILEAGE, AND LESS POWER RESPONSE.

  • @wtam69 PART 3 CONTINUED... JUST A NICE NOTE TO COMPARE. SOMETIMES WHEN A WIND TURBINE IS STALLING OUT IN LOW WINDS, WE FIGURE THAT THE BATTERY VOLTAGE IS REACHED TO EARLY. THUS THE WIND TURBINE GETS LOADED DOWN BEFORE IT GETS TO CUT IN SPEED FOR THE BLADES TO RECEIVE LIFT. 2 THINGS CAN BE DONE. 1 OPEN THE GAP BETWEEN THE MAGNETS A BIT SO IT SPINS FASTER TO GET TO VOLTAGE. THEN THE BLADES WILL SPIN FASTER AND PRODUCE MORE WHEN IT STARTS UP. 2) ADD WIRE TO THE LEAD LENGTH AS A RESISTANCE.

    YUP I GOT A NICE LITTLE WORKOUT FIGHTING THE SHORTED COILS. THEN THE DRIVE WHEELS' GRIPPY TAPE WOULDNT GET ENOUGH TRACTION TO GET THE BEST TEST RESULTS I WANTED. SO MY MOTIVATION GOT A WORKOUT TOO. I HAD 1 1/2 HOURS TO THINK ABOUT THE TESTING AS I DROVE BACK HOME. ONCE I GOT HOME I STARTED TO FEEL A BIT MORE SPUNKY. SO I BUILT A CRYSTAL RADIO. LOTS OF FUN.
