They did not spend this much money just to ruin what they bought. Personally, I have no good feelings about this merger. I do know that I own the 1967-1970 series of Spider-Man on DVD, which was distributed by Disney's Buena Vista but I would hate to go to Disneyland and see merchandise upstaging Disney's items. I just don't know but like everyone else, I'll have to wait and see how this turns out.

It's not a big deal at all. The Disney folks have already said "If it isn't broke..." That basically means that they aren't going to mess with anything. ANYTHING. They aren't going to change to Disney Comics. They are going to treat this exactly like Pixar, letting them have creative control over their movies. The comics are going to stay the same. This isn't that big of deal, or at least not as big as people want it to be.
it makes me very sad, I want to be hope full and look on the glass half full but I keep seeing Marvel loosing there edge due to this and i hope soooooo much that this will not mess up the THOR movie in the works...so sad

Disney has nothing to do with the films "Iron Man 2" or "Spider-Man 4." Sony retains the rights to the "Spider-Man" film franchise, and "Iron Man 2" is finished filming and is in post-production.

Sony will still have the rights to the Spiderman movies, as for the Paramount with the Avengers related movies. Its after those series are through then Disney will start to distribute Marvel based movies. Let's wait and see I guess.
Basically, it's like this: Sony retains the rights to the "Spider-Man" films for however long the contract with Marvel stated. Fox has the movie rights for "Fantastic Four" and "X-Men" for however long the contracts specify. Paramount has a distribution deal with Marvel, but Marvel's own movie studio produced the "Iron Man" film, and is producing the "Avengers" film. When the contract with Paramount ends, Disney will more than likely take over distribution.
Well Disney is smart... they can handle their own buisness... I know they know marvel knows what they've been doing so Im assuming Marvel will keep doing what they are doing... DIsney just bought marvel for the rights, so they wouldnt have to pay rights for the shows on Disney XD and so they could thrive off of Marvel's recent success

If the mouse doesn't try to 'fix' Marvel, I don't see much of a problem. It does pose an interesting possibilities. (The Kingdom Hearts spin someone mentioned as one.) It would be bad if they messed with the main lines such as XMen and the spinoffs.

Wow, I hadn't heard this, but this is stunning news! I can't really form an opinion just yet, this is all new and mind-boggling, but I hope it means the best for Marvel. I wouldn't automatically assume that it means curtains for Marvel. Disney, despite whatever problems and whatever criticisms it has endured, has an amazing history and continues to be a class act. Most of the time. So I'd have to say, give 'em a chance, cut 'em some slack, for now at least, and let's see what happens. :)
That's what I say, too. I am remainly optimistic. Disney does produce other things than family-oriented cartoons and the Disney Channel. The company also owns Miramax, Touchstone, and ABC TV, so there's no real reason to worry just yet.
Hard to say what this will do to the content of Marvel Comics and how they will be handled. I doubt Disney bought a tried and true stable of characters to take a dump on them. Disney's distribution and deep pockets can lead to the realization of projects and media that couldn't have happened before.

From what I've read, Marvel Movies is why they bought it, for the male demographic (the one Disney's not reaching with Hanna Montana), and will remain as independent as Pixel did after they bought it.

my only concern with the Marvel and Disney thing is the marvel super hero island in islands of adventure.
Does this me that disney owns a part of a universal theme park?
What about the hulk roller coaster?

Disney does not own Universal, but Universal may not be able to use the Marvel; characters once the contract they have with Marvel expires. I suspect Disney will want to use the Marvel characters at its theme parks.

dont comicbook geeks realise that disney are a smart company and know how to handle a franchise right. they wont change marvel but expand on it by probably making new cartoons for disney XD and such and as for films they wont dumb them down after seeing the success of spiderman and ironman. disney wont make any money if they change marvel and lose its respective fanbase.

I think that any time a company buys another company, the buying company always affects the company it buys. So we will not have the pure Marvel as it once was. It will be changed in some ways. We will just have to wait it out and see what happens with these changes, as to whether they are good or bad. YAYYYYYYYY!

Why does everyone seem to think disney is for kids? yes it's kinda associated with them but they have made films and games that are just as gory as everything else... for example they made the Turok game, which is exactly magical elves and happy dust.

As I try to remind people, Disney also owns Miramax and Touchstone films, which both have produced much more adult fare than the typical Disney output.

Disney has nothing to do with the films "Iron Man 2" or "Spider-Man 4." Sony retains the rights to the "Spider-Man" film franchise, and "Iron Man 2" is finished filming and is in post-production.

I expected this vlog as soon as I saw the news. Disney does have a more mature end so, even though I'm not much of a comic reader, I assume Disney bought it because they see it as a good investment so possibly won't make many changes.

It's too soon to say how Disney will handle those characters. Disney also owns Miramax films, which released films like "Pulp Fiction," so this news doesn't necessarily mean Disney will change those Marvel characters.

Sony will still have the rights to the Spiderman movies, as for the Paramount with the Avengers related movies. Its after those series are through then Disney will start to distribute Marvel based movies. Let's wait and see I guess.

Basically, it's like this: Sony retains the rights to the "Spider-Man" films for however long the contract with Marvel stated. Fox has the movie rights for "Fantastic Four" and "X-Men" for however long the contracts specify. Paramount has a distribution deal with Marvel, but Marvel's own movie studio produced the "Iron Man" film, and is producing the "Avengers" film. When the contract with Paramount ends, Disney will more than likely take over distribution.

They are one of the most powerful companies in the world... they are atop the animation industry, the amuzement park industry, and among the top of the film industry... Why am I on something??? Disney is powerful, you have to be smart to become a powerful company... DIsney was smart to spend 4 billion dollars on Marvel..Marvel is an extremely profitable product.

Personally, I'm reserving judgment for the time being. However, if Disney gets Marvel to deliver their comics to shops on schedule, I'll be impressed.
But I do I think it will be similar to how the DC-Warner relationship works. Still, only time will tell.

If the mouse doesn't try to 'fix' Marvel, I don't see much of a problem. It does pose an interesting possibilities. (The Kingdom Hearts spin someone mentioned as one.) On the goood side, if they get rid of some of those train wreck book adaptations, such as Anita Blake, it might not be so bad. It would be bad if they messed with the main lines such as XMen and the spinoffs.

I'm not happy with this. I think the comics will be fine and become more mainstream. A lot of opportunities on both sides. They're will be negative effects from this, how could they're not be. There's always a negative and a positive. Personally. I just wish they didn't have to sell out.

Wow, I hadn't heard this, but this is stunning news! I can't really form an opinion just yet, this is all new and mind-boggling, but I hope it means the best for Marvel. I wouldn't automatically assume that it means curtains for Marvel. Disney, despite whatever problems and whatever criticisms it has endured, has an amazing history and continues to be a class act. Most of the time. So I'd have to say, give 'em a chance, cut 'em some slack, for now at least, and let's see what happens. :)

That's what I say, too. I am remainly optimistic. Disney does produce other things than family-oriented cartoons and the Disney Channel. The company also owns Miramax, Touchstone, and ABC TV, so there's no real reason to worry just yet.

Hard to say what this will do to the content of Marvel Comics and how they will be handled. I doubt Disney bought a tried and true stable of characters to take a dump on them. Disney's distribution and deep pockets can lead to the realization of projects and media that couldn't have happened before.
How about an all CGI Avengers movie by Pixar?
My one share of Marvel stock is looking good.
