  • ATTENTION: FALSE INFORMATION

Primarily, Chacaltaya is already gone. It was declared dead around April 2009 by Edson Ramirez, one of Bolivian leading scientifics in the area of tropical glaciers. Second, the mountain showed in the video is NOT Chacaltaya, but Illimani, the main symbol of La Paz City, and which is still going to last some 30-40 (or more or less) years aproximately. NONE OF THOSE provide water for La Paz or El Alto - the main glacial sources for the reservoirs of those cities ...

  • ... (continuation) ... are Tuna Condoriri and others. Chacaltaya and Illimani did/do however provide several local indigenous communties with water. In the rainy season you can get to see a snow-covered Chacaltaya, but the main glacial mass is gone and is not recovering.
