  • how come gremlins be rating G instead PG or PG-13? and also they first use this HBO movie logo in 1987 not 1986 but okay though

  • I always loved the old HBO openings.

  • PG-13 was first launched in 1984.

  • This is the classic opening i remember! all those dots lighting up! FUCK! sucha trip!

  • The music in the background during the Gremlins bump sounds kinda like "Sussudio".

  • This aginst the law. WBM will be here to shut it down, if this is EVER discovered. Do NOT tell anyone about this video !!!

  • What's the G rated movie?.

  • @comic93 The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Movie 4:30pm EST April 1

  • G means general. It is suitable for all audiences

  • HBO HD

  • I definitely like the '86 one the best!

  • I remember: " The best time on TV is HBO ".

  • [Carl] The following movie has been rated G by the Motion Picture of Association of America.

  • does anyone have the full ID at 0:28 ?

  • LOL! Classic!!!

  • and 40 somethings too :(

  • YAY! us 30 somethings have to stick together

  • This clip is a little confusing -

The opening shot where GREMLINS is announced would appear to be from late 1986, but then when the opener appears, I believe that wasn't introduced until 1987, and lastly when the ratings card pops up, it goes back to the style used before 1987 (G Rating too! GREMLINS is PG).

    Could you please explain this?

  • Yes, this material came off one of my 1986 compilation tapes but it is possible some '87 material was included there. The first part was a different clip from the second. I figured someone would realize the G-rating was not for Gremlins, so, turns out, that 'someone' would be you :)

  • Ha! Just look at my account; this HBO stuff is all I live for

  • I could just imagine the idiot children (and their parents) who would actually mistake Gremlins for G-rated fare; when the microwave scene comes up, they'll be scarred for life.

  • They wouldn't be scarred for life. In the mid 80's kids weren't the huge pussys they are now.

  • @LyonPryde1080p Actually, it isn't the kids. It's their parents. The whole theory that, as time progresses, parents won't be as uptight as previous generations is negated when you see PG movies from the 80's. Even after the PG-13 rating was introduced, a lot of movies w/ more mature material like today's PG-13's were STILL rated PG. Those kids that grew up during that era were us. If we turned out ok, why are we so sure OUR kids won't?

  • @Wildcock23 I'm not sure they said this was G. The original rating was PG then it was turned to PG-13 because of angry parents who took they're kids to see it. It was too violent and the MPAA gave it a new "PG-13" rating.

  • @thewateverperson yes PG-13 was first used in 1984 that means only suitable for persons over 13 or under 13 must request a parent/guardian.

  • Thanks for posting that HBO movie opener!!!

I definitely remember this since the early 1990s.

  • I have always loved this '80s HBO opener! I also adore the space one.

  • YES! Thanks for posting this!

Must have more of these HBO clips!
