  • wow it looks like a giant pvc paintball gun bolt

  • he is open very slowly

i think the piston is not free , is tight

  • Wat does it do then

  • It goes "bang" or, if embedded in a large diameter pipe, "whump". It can also be modified to spray gore or brains or whatever on command. Done wrong, it can also explode into small bits of lethal shrapnel, to take care.

  • Its not that complicated, just need to know how it works and then you could easily build one.

And to the maker of the vid, you used DWV in the tee.

I may be wrong because some tees look like that and are pressure rated but check. And if it is then replace it or you can keep useing it but your life will be at risk, no joke

  • It is a smidgen complicated, but no one piece of it is hard, there are just a lot of pieces.

I used DWV in the big Tee, but the tee is not itself pressurized. The pressure is held through the tee by other pieces of pipe, all of which are schedule 40, and my working pressure is 40psi.

  • Just because its SCH-40 doesn't mean that its pressure rated. Unless it actually has a pressure rating on there in PSI, its not pressure rated.

  • Sch-40 is mostly a size specification, true; diameter and wall thickness. It should be marked with its ASTM code, and a variety of ratings including pressure.

Sch-40 for water supply use, however, is all going to be roughly the same because of the demands of that use. Have to be careful to avoid the Drain/Vent stuff (which is a different schedule usually) and the foam-core stuff.

  • OH, and an addendum, PVC is not rated for _air_ use regardless; all PVC pressure ratings are for water, and any use with air is heavily discouraged and generally unsafe.

  • Damn. Looks complicated.

  • are you piloting the sprinkler valve with the solenoid? if you are, modify it with a blowgun. otherwise it's as slow as a ball valve

  • Yup, but the sprinkler valve doesn't need to be as fast in this design because it itself is just a trigger and not the source of the effect.

Also, I want the device to be entirely electrically operated so it can be controlled remotely.

  • lol from a long way off..

can u help me out im trying to configure this whole piston valve thing can u make a little vid on how it works and how to make? im realli stuck and wanna make a better gun.

are piston valves better than just a reglar 1 valve relese?

  • In my tests, this piston valve makes a MUCH faster release than other easy-to-get valves; though commercial quick exhaust valves are a worthy option to explore.

This boom stick will be in Make Magazine issue 13, I believe, so check it out there for details.
