  • The best moment in Canadian HISTORY!

  • I see I've hit a nerve here eh? Haha! Love listening to Cons at work. Guns will save us all. Need protection? Buy a gun! It'll save you from the others with guns. Oh wait, maybe we need guns because they are so readily available... Pitiful and distasteful. Oh yeah and fighting for my Canadian rights eh? Guns will fight for my Canadian rights, all hail guns! You guys sure sound more like our southern neighbours than true Canadians. We don't have to live in fear of fellow citizens up here.

  • So why are we paying for all of these people to mooch off of tax payers? Instead of voting for these people, we should be voting on policies. After all, we are the ones paying for it and the house of slackers. They must be tired after standing up and clapping all day.

  • sucks that it never went completely through, but hopefully it can be repealed in the next 60 days.

  • The speaker keeps calling out which row is being counted. The speaker in the current parliament has not done that...

  • @ROBLOXIANgordonrox24 there's only been one vote on legislation, the voting to put mail worker's back to work, since the spring parliament was cut short by the election. also, he's new to his post, give him a break.

  • @flamedrag18 He's not new... He was deputy speaker for a while. While the deputy usually doesn't oversee legislation votes, he should know the procedure. I'm curious as to if it is procedure, or just personal preference of the speaker.

  • @ROBLOXIANgordonrox24 I believe it's to the discretion of the speaker, I think he'll start doing it soon, just need time to get into doing it out of tradition. also, it's most commonly done with popular or monumental legislation like in the video, so they make it look good.

  • doesn't anyone else find it hilarious that they have to say "mr. weston west vancouver sunshine coast sea to sky country" every time?

  • @deathbystarship yeah, but they do screw up sometimes, I've seen it on CPAC, it is funny when it happens.

  • What an inefficient way to have a division!

  • @densaner77 do you mean the call out for all the members who voted yay or nay? it's to show who voted for what, MPs are forced to take responsibility for their votes in Canada, unlike in the US where it's often anonymous.

  • @flamedrag18. The UK House of Commons simply publishes a list of names of those who voted and whether aye or no through Hansard. It seems a bit strange in Canada. The American Conservative Union publishes their annual conservative ranking lists. These are based on members voting records in Congress. So i'm not sure why you think they can vote in secret.

  • @densaner77 but they make it obvious here, you vote and stand, they seriously have nothing better to do, the majority of a MPs work time is sitting down with a little bit of arguing.

  • everybodys talking about how long guns aren't used for murders, they usually aren't in other than strange circumstances, but they are used for poaching, and this long gun registry has made it remarkably easier to catch the ridiculous amount of poachers in our country. keep the registry. when the conservatives abolish it with their majority, it will just be reinstated when they only get a tiny amount of seats next election because of their destruction to our country. it's a waste of a bill.

  • @Bag0bandaids Ok, so if its reinstated by a future party, and currently the registry only has an estimated 50% compliance....I would expect the compliance rate to be even far lower.

  • @flamedrag18 registry that doesn't do it's job, well more then half of all firearms in canada are not registered, the majority are criminal owned guns that have been smuggled into the country unchecked. the only solution to lessen crime in canada is to scrap the registry, allow people to possess firearms in public and increase the police force with the money saved from scraping the registry. we Canadians are paying for a flawed system that doesn't work at all, there's no reason for it.

  • @blowjays how many criminals there will be left? either the smart ones are going to quit or the dumb ones are going to die, pretty simple and the only method that works, criminals don't understand laws or regulation, they understand a bullet in the head.

  • @blowjays so your saying that the gun makes the person do crime? what about knives? more people die of knife attack then gun accident and murders, screw off.

interesting that you never thought that even though there is a gun registry, there's still gun crime, interesting that people are still killing each other with unregistered guns. the only way your going to stop crime is allow the citizen the right to defend themselves, put them on a level playing field with the criminal, see...

  • @blowjays You truly are a vile person. If you hope for the death of children due to your irrational view of their parents you aren't much better than people willing to kill innocents over ideology. No legislation will take guns out of the hands of criminals. Only the law abiding citizens who defend against the criminals and whose firearms aren't used in crimes.

  • blowjays, you need some serious help with your anger issues Dude. Get some help for you and your families sake. Take care and get back on your meds bro.

  • Fuck the free world

  • This peice of garbage will soon be history and people will be freer and the goverment will be out of the people private lives.

  • This will peice of garbage will soon be history and people will be freer and the goverment will be out of the people private lives.

  • The truth is that no one cares about the lives of bad people, except the Liberals and no one hates the freedoms of good people, except the Liberals. When guns are outlawed, I will be a criminal, but I will still be a good person, so I don't give two shits.

  • @blowjays. With a potty mouth like yours I'm certainly glad you are not a gun owner. Any of you guys notice that the really pissy ones in the gun control issues are liberals. At least he got his screen name right. The Toronto Blue Jays really do blow.

  • @blowjays

All you libtards are the same. You wish death upon those that fight for the rights of Canadians simply because you don't agree. This is why Holland is going to lose his job, Canadians are tired of your left wing nanny state propaganda. I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy and never lose your right to free speech. After all it is the right wing gun loving people that stand up for your rights and against poor policies and bad government.

  • Don't worry @blowjays, even though you don't believe in self defense and guns, you still need us to save your sorry life.

Now go home, and cower like a baby and hope to live another day.

  • @blowjays

Don't worry, if someone walks in shooting, I will be alive, and you won't.

True Liberals will actually go and beg for their meaningless lives that are built on the backs of hardworking people. Conservatives will fight for their freedom, and the freedom of others.

  • @blowjays So what happens to the criminals who don't care about the law?

  • @blowjays Is this you Karl? Comments like this hatespeech are very nice when screencapped and gathered together as evidence that unstable people should be disarmed and institutionalized. It also adds up nicely to help with the argument about self-defense and carrying the right tools to protect and preserve life.

Fuddle-duddle and good day to you. Seek help. oh yeah. Down South? Yep. Mexico is pretty violent right now.

  • @blowjays Or how about when some guy goes around with a knife and kills a bunch of people, say in New York, (hint hint) what if one of them had a gun? He probablyy wouldn't have killed all those people if someone put two in his chest and one in his head. If it save just one life, fucking idiots.

  • @blowjays your a very good Lieberal sheep!

  • @blowjays Really,are u that fucked ?

  • @TheF3420 I believe his name suggests that he blows some guy named Jay. Yeah, I could believe it.

  • Stupid traitors

  • What a Strange but Ingenious way to vote !

  • This is a great example of party unity. Basically all of the conservative MP voted yes to this one.

  • do we still need registrations? plz reply!

  • @TheMetalApocalipse YES, join Canadian Shooting Sports Assocation and/or National Firearms Assocation to help protect what liberties we have left

  • Sad day today september 22nd 2010 the opposion sussfully killed this bill 153-151 very close vote.

  • Does this mean i don't have to register guns? Any updates on this would be good.

  • @chairmcnasty you are skirting the issue. The police will not know how many guns. Key point is how many. Pls answer to that point.

  • The flaw with your logic 6699 is that in Canada I can LEGALLY store, lend or borrow any non restricted LONG gun to and from other legal owners, so the registry is USELESS!

The only honest thing you said with regards to the LGR was "police and consficate"

  • Do you people realize that the long gun registry is a incomplete filled with errors list of what firearms are owned by Canadian and it has been hacked over 300 times giving criminals lists of where to find firearms the registry has nothing to do with licensing of the firearms owner.

This is a complete waste of tax payers dollars that could go to things like womens shelters/homeless/policing etc etc etc..........

  • @makinawdandy6699: What the CMA *didn't* say is that *overall* suicides have not gone down, and in fact may actually be trending upwards. All that the "gun control" laws have done is create a substitution for other means that those intent on suicide employ.

  • @makinawdandy6699 They can only confiscate what they know about, not even half the firearms in Canada are registered anyway, so whats the point? Its feel good legislation

  • @makinawdandy6699 One of the biggest concerns firearms owners have with the registry is that it so easily leads to confiscation, and you're trying to argue for it based on ease of confiscation of property? What planet are you from?

  • @Drog007 We are talking about the 1 in 100, 000 people who are dangerous to the society - not your ordinary law abiding hunter or sportsman. We are talking about the people who a judge has said "this guy poses a threat to society and should not have a gun collection". In such a case, the police will need to take the individuals guns away. In such a case, they will need to know how many guns the person has. Otherwise he could hide some of them and hand over only a few.

  • @makinawdandy6699

What the CMA *didn't* say is that the *overall* number of suicides has not decreased at all, and may be trending *upward*. All that the so-called "gun control" laws have done is caused those intent on killing themselves to substitute another means to do so. Why no outrage over the increase in hanging deaths? Why no calls to ban rope?

  • @makinawdandy6699 Mentally insane individuals are not eligible for a PAL, and no responding officer in his right mind would trust that any firearms listed in the registry constituted ALL the firearms in an individuals house anyways. Your argument makes no sense.

  • @Drog007 If we remove the firearms registry, the officers will have no idea whatsoever how many guns an inane person has. When it comes time to confiscate his guns, the violent / insane person could only hand over one or two and say "well officer, that's all of them". Meanwhile, the violent person could secretly retain a lot of guns and continue to pose a threat. You will have removed the information that the police had about how many guns that violent person owned. Good legislation ?

  • @Drog007 You don't understand - sane people can become insane after many years. Ordinary people can display violence after issuance of PAL. Your argument makes no sense.

  • @makinawdandy6699 The registry does not in any way affect the licensing and screening processes in obtaining a PAL. So a guy snaps one day and kills a guy then himself, congats the police will know that that gun was his what good is that. The only good thing the registry does is imitate. But it imitates the bad Tyrannies of the past. aka hitler being one.

  • @makinawdandy6699 I'm sorry, but you do not understand. The PAL system is NOT an issue and forget licence, once you hold a PAL, you are checked via existing police databases for any criminal activity or other disqualifying changes DAILY. The registry is nothing more than a list of guns.

  • @Erivah I saw that quote on Civilization 4 but I forget who said it.

  • @Erivah It waste fellow canadian tax dollars for a useless act. Did yu know the registry wasted 2 billion thta could have been used for the military, healthcare and since the registry is soon to be abolished (hopefully) Canadians will be buying more guns and un-registered people will go off freely without problems.

  • So what is this act? Outlawing long guns?

  • No, abolishing the long gun registry. Just another useless liberal buerocracy.

  • @MajBlood The registry is basicly a goverment held inventory of every long gun in Canada. They have your address and a list of all your guns. So one day when Canada is taken over from china the Commies will know where all the guns are. Minus the ones the gangs/criminals have. ANd we all know black guys can't shoot well.

  • Comment removed

  • @MajBlood No, all it does is say that you don't have to redgester it

  • so when does this get finalized? when does it become law? i don't really understand how this bureaucratic nonsense works. If someone could maybe enlighten me or point me in the right direction, would be appreciated.

  • It goes to a commitee for review and then the senate. Since parliament is suspended right now it will be defered until it resumes. Conservatives dominate the senate now so it should be a good there. The Left and womans groups are going crazy right now trying to push their gun control agenda which doesnt work. So get your voice heard, letters to editor, letters to mp's , ect.

  • I looked into my mp in calgary, and apparently he's voting for the repeal. So i don't think i have to voice it. But i guess parliament resumes march 3, so i will be watching. I looked into the process aswell, hopefully it isn't delayed to much.

  • greatest moment in canadian history? god how dull

  • As a Canadian I watched this live. It was the greatest moment in Canadian history.

I salute all NDP and Liberal MP's who voted to abolish the registry.

  • @pittsky I agree, but we have a way to go yet. I just hope they keep it going all the way

  • I cant speak for how things are done in Canada so please fore give me if my comet seems uniformed. I am a citizen of the U.S. and over here its been pretty scary. Ive been hearing news reports on the news about people bringing guns to speaking events from our president and I think you guys are lucky to have a parliament that is more concerned about protecting you form guns rather than the right to own them.

  • This law was the most intrusive piece of socialist garbage ever to be introduced in the house.

    It should've died long ago.

  • Less government = more freedom.

    Simple.

  • @raynus1 but No goverment = no control which means more crime. A goverment \was placed in this world to help control while giving citizens enough freedom to satisfy there needs.

  • @SniperViper1000: I said less government, not complete removal of government. I like to drive on decent roads, know that we have a properly-equipped military, police and certain, reasonable safety nets. What I cannot stand is intrusive, controlling, expensive social engineering that is the hallmark of the left (ie: universal day care, gun control, 'free' medicare, etc.)

  • Congrats from a neighbor to the south.

I think it's ironic that you're beginning to get your freedoms back while our federal government is pissing all over our constitution.

What a time to be alive!

  • Actually, in committee they can make small changes to the bill but they can't change the essence of the bill. Since the essence of the bill is to scrap the registry they have very little wiggle room.

  • Let the gun registry die .....like all money-losing govermnent endeavours...... (GM bailout anyone?)

Rather, let us invest in more policing and larger prisons....with tighter cells and budgets!

  • This is freedom. I get goosebumps watching this.

  • To

    DistinguishedFlyer.

It's as good as gone now. From here it goes to committee for possible adjustment, the returned to the house for a final vote.

Any of the opposition members who supported it this round are politically obligated to support it again, otherwise it would be political egg on their faces which they obviously try to avoid.

Following the final vote, if approved it would move to the senate which will have a conservative majority by then, and tada, no more registry.

  • All I meant to say was that the committee will likely delay the bill for quite a long time - and if they recommend killing it, that could provide political cover for opposition MPs to switch their votes back. I agree that the registry is likely for the chopping block, but it will not be as easy or fast as it may seem right now.

  • I wouldn't celebrate too much yet - the committee vote is 6-5 for keeping it (with the chair only voting in the event of a tie). It could still be quite a while before the registry goes.

  • mglsp, thats a little more reassuring :)

  • The little ovation for Garry Breitkreuz was really touching. He's been leading the fight for years, and really deserves huge props for his work...

  • Looks what can be accomplished when the firearms owners of Canada ban together. Today a giant waste of money was abolished, tommorow magazine restrictions gone, and easier to obtain CCW permits?

  • As a Canadian citizen I have no idea what is going on.

  • Congratulations then, your a Liberal.

  • Pure Awesome! Let's keep the fire burning =-D

  • I tried to send some hate email to Wendy Cukier tonight, but apparently her mailbox is riddled already

  • I think you misunderstood what you saw. After 4:50 everyone who stood up was voting "no"

  • ya, I wasnt paying attention, but neat stuff to see my MP voted for it. now I gotta spam a MP in my town who voted against

  • @KingOfSpite It passed the second reading with a yes so therefore it was for a yes.

  • @SniperViper1000 what are you talking about? I was clarifying to kullwarrior that the first group of people who stood up were voting yes and then after 4:50 everyone who stood up was voting no. Of couse we know it passed.

  • yay!

  • Boom shakalaka, boom shakalaka, boom shakalaka, boom

Finally a victory for Liberty, they are few and far between boys so enjoy it.

  • watched this today and was so happpy to see it happen may it go thru with no issues.

  • I am very surprised that my NPD MP voted for this but I am also ecstatic that were are seeing some progress in Canada. Keep in mind the score is still 100-1 in favor of them. Now we need to work on the ATT BS for restricted, getting rid of the 12-6 prohib category, and getting concealed carry permits for responsible citizens. An end to the 5 round and 10 round maximum limit would be great too. And while I'm dreaming we need to make an attainable class for automatics and converted automatics.

  • i like your dreams

  • disagree on the automatics and converted automatics for attaining, Although I want it, there's no real strong reason to own it, especially with the opposition. Getting CCW Permit will be pushing it, 5 rounds to 10 would not be so hard, since its a clarification and simplification on the firearm act.

  • The reasons is freedom, if I am a responsible qualified law abiding citizen what business is it of the governments what weapons I want to own? If I am a criminal lock me up, if I am not then they can leave me the fuck alone.

  • The restricted weapons have had to be registered for a VERY long time now. There's no way we could ever get rid of that. I'll just be happy when my 870 is no longer on a list in some gov't computer.

  • dreams can come true :)

  • Yes..... When I move to America.

  • Just one step in taking back this country from the freedom-decaying policies of the morally backrupt (and fingers crossed, financially as well) Lieberal party.

Suck it Cukier! Your un-democratic lifes work is in shambles. Have a bucket of cheeseburgers and cry yourself to sleep tonight.

  • Excellent news and bigger margin than expected!! Bad law has no place in Canada!

  • YES!!!!

This is freedom. I have never been so proud of my MP Rob Anders.

We are taking our country back, the socialists have been routed.

  • Just saw this on gunnutz. Thanks for posting. We are really close to passing this bill. Keep sending your support and donations to the CPC!

  • no prob

  • this is just half the battle everyone needs to keep the heat on their MPP's and tell any gun owners that you know that arent calling their MPP and tell them to vote for it

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this work :D
