  • this guy is a teacher in my school omg cringe factor good whistle work though

  • My right ear enjoyed this.

  • ben feito

  • great fingering

  • omg this man is magic,,,,,,,, i wonder did naimh teach him this technique.... hup..

  • Please tell me that everyone else is thinking the same thing...Magic fingers! O.O

  • @Flara14luvsllamas I'm a whistle player myself. Circular breathing isn't as useful on tin whistle as it is on flute or other woodwinds. The whistle is a lot like a fipple flute, only it just has six holes. In some ways it's easier than common wind instruments (no thumbhole :) ) but in other ways it's harder.

  • awesome

  • Keep pressing 1.

  • that is absolutely brilliant,a very talented young man playing a beautiful couple of tunes!

  • What I love about these whistle videos is that you can click anywhere on the timeline and it all sounds the fuckin same!

  • @rippenburn LOL, that's so true! :D

  • wow, must take alot of air cuz you breathe alot. you sould try circular breathing! :D

  • @Flara14luvsllamas Yeah, just use circular breathing.

If only it were that easy.

  • Irish skills!

  • This is pure Genius!!!!!!

  • With regards to the negative comments, those that post them should read this lad's T-shirt: 'Talk to the Hand'.

  • I love how people are saying that he's not that good, and he's considered the 2007 All-Ireland Senior Champion. I'd would like to see his negative critics post a video of themselves playing what he's playing in front of an audience.

  • Well Done Cian, Its just a pity theres so many morons on you tube-- most of whom don't have a note their heads-- who set themselves up as so called Experts on tempo and timing and style. Your'e a young lad who has a great talent and this will develop with time and experience of playing in sessions and with other musicians. Congrats on your achievements so far Cian !!

  • UNBELIEVABLE!! HE ROCKS!!

  • sligo... my nana's from moygara sligo.. mary reid.lol great job i wish i could do that when you get older and go to the bar pull that thing out and watch the girls line up...lol

  • Incredible talent, but feels rushed. He needs to work on his rhythm more.

  • @PlaidJaguar LOL. No he doesn't. You could use him as a metronome, that's how 'on beat' he plays. The tempo is fast, but that's inherent to the style..

  • @Washala Metronomes can't measure rhythm, only tempo. Yes, his tempo is flawless, and each note is played succinctly and evenly. But the style actually calls for the player to be much more flexible with the song. Traditional whistle playing can't be properly notated in sheet; it serves as a guide, but certainly shouldn't restrict the player. He sounds as though he's playing from sheet music. He does it very well, but nonetheless robs the music of its character.

  • hmmm...actually he is playing this exactly as it should be considering it is meant as an accompianment for dancers.

  • @PlaidJaguar nonsense my friend, theres no need to complicate what is a fine piece of work.

  • is it me or is his right eye (well technically his left but it looks like his right cuz of the camera) slightly higher then his other eye? idk kinda tripped me out haha, otherwise pretty legit music bro.

  • you'r so good....and you'r fingers:O

  • 9 dilikes? 9 jealous barstewards more like. This is smashing stuff. Excellent, cheers.

  • You are so good, you have given me chills... :)

  • Beautiful man, Good luck!!!

  • I'm wanting to learn multiple flute-like instruments in my lifetime and would like to add the Irish Whistle to my collection. Would anyone happen to know of a good dealer that's selling whistles similar to the one played in the video? Thanks :)

  • Now I know why you're a champion!!! I wish I had just half of your talent!! Awesome!!

  • ears...

  • This guy is freaking great, but I hope you realize that this is all uploaded by someone other than the artist. He probably has no clue he's actually on here.

  • W O W !

  • what great musician this guy is! :D

  • Outstanding. He sure has passed down the music. He'll definitely be inspiried by many.

  • amazing

  • epic ! i wish to the heavens i could play this good with such a lack of emotion ... you are fantastic !

  • Those commenting about "lack of emotion" must not be players. This young man is in "the zone" when he's playing - a state of concentration that is wholly in the moment, a way of getting the brain and the fingers and the breath completely in concert. He's completely passionate about this music - you can see it in his fingers and hear it in his ornamentation and breathing. Yes, he's also being filmed. Not all fine musicians prance around the stage and make grand movements - or even smile.

  • He really doesn't look like he's enjoying it at all. I know its being filmed so its different but I can't stand that.

  • This boy has a big future!

  • Fantastic!

  • wow this dude is epic!!!

  • You have a gift and as you know you only become this good with practice and dertermination. You have just shown the capability of the most underated instrument in the world, well done and I am so envious of your tallents, keep it up.

  • U look like the vocal of the Pogues..

  • go watch my vid

    plzzzzzzzzzzz

  • wooow lovely tunes ur really gud

  • wonderful !!!

  • Cian!

That was marvelous! Fantastic! Keep it up mate! I wish i can play half as well as you do. You're a real inspiration lad!

  • Gaah not even I can do that! A very talented kid this one hehe.

  • AMAZING!(:

  • Very talented.

  • Those ears are a real turn on for any girl

  • but look at his fingers, im sure the girls are after him

  • hey you song good keep up the good work thanks for the music hope to go the the isles some day

  • I'll tell you whats "void of any feeling" are most of these comments.

Cian, don't you dare listen to these negative comments. you have a wonderful talent and a true gift. the people commenting negatively and myself only WISH we had a fraction of your talent. an artist is a true gift to the world please keep up the good work.

  • Agreed gman, and also I find it interesting reading comments from people from continental europe talking about lack of emotion.

    mmmmmmmmmmm!!

  • @gman987987 Amen

  • @gman987987 Well said! Keep it up Cian, you're very talented!

  • Totally agree.

  • @SamFischer1000 what do you mean.

practicing that much to be able to play that takes passion, determination, and feeling.

you have no idea what your talking about.

  • @TheKeyWestian That's not what I'm getting at. I don't doubt that it takes a very talented and determined person to play like that. But there is no body movement and he's staring at the camera like he's reading an autocue or awkwardly looking around the room.

  • Awesome!

  • why are people putting the thumbs down to azeron1 he is quite right in what he is saying the boy is just playing the music hes not feeling the music.

  • NICE !!!!

  • Are u at the Fla?

  • I have to agree with Azeron1 but you are amazing

  • I am sorry but he looks like some robot, no passion.. but hes a real master!

  • Is the second tune not Fox on the Town?

  • @mcconfi Yes it is!

  • Alright, that does it! I'm getting one!

  • si!!! muy bueno!!!!

  • great!!

  • Very, very nice

  • Beautiful!

  • although a brilliant player

  • lmao sindre

  • @kungfujellybean good for you?

  • @TheKeyWestian I know, right? I accidentally stumbled upon this video a year ago because I was bored and I spoke my mind...

Man, I'm such a dick sometimes!

  • I'm no where as good as this young man but when I do take it out and play it in public I catch quite a crowd.....that does include young ladies too. ;)

  • you must be getting alot of pussy.

  • Awesome, you looked in the beginning a bit insecure. No need for that, mate!!

    That Was absolutely amazing!!

(pff, Wish I could do that...)

  • This is brilliant, all the haters out here a just jealous because they could never play this, great job :)

  • He shouldn't worry about the brilliant musician but more about his spelling.....moron.

  • @fryedchickenisgood what makes him a faggot (Even though faggot is not an adjective, numnuts)

  • @10razza10 at leasthe has a girl to play a song too....

  • Brilliant! He almost looks like he's in a trance like state!

  • Yes you are.

  • omg...i guess you've your flute everytime with you and when theres some cute girl you put it out and play this song. i would be...surprised xD

  • The intro was so cheesy makes the guy look a bit slow lol...

but the playing made up for that by miles ! Nice Work !!! 5/5

  • A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! =O

  • Nice bit of playing.

  • Great playing Cian. Play the Sindt myself. See u were adjudicating at Leinster Fleadh in Wcklow. Maybe can meet for a few tunes at All Ireland!

  • Breathtaking

  • 0.o... w_T_f way is your left hand 3rd finger? good fingering action tho i've never seen anything like the sort before.

  • it appears to be double-jointed...? I am probably wrong but my little sister's got all ten fingers double-jointed and that looks like what she can do. Than again, maybe it's been broken; the 2nd finger on my right hand looks like that sometimes

  • haha Amazing !

  • does everyone play with their fingertips now? seems a bit difficult... amazing job though... anyone else know the second reel as finbar dwyer's?

  • Wow! You seriously have a gift. You play with a wonderful sound, tone, and have amazing technique.

May I know what instrument specificly you're playing on?

  • Its called a Tin whistle

  • It's a straight bore tin whistle or flageolet in the key of D, but I don't recognise the maker. It looks like a plastic coating on the mouthpeice and a metal fipple, which I'd usually associate with low whistles (ie. an octave lower).

For beginners I'd recomend the conical bore Clarke's whistle with the plastic fipple. They're easy to obtain, don't get condensation like a metal fipple or detune like the wooden block mouthpiece, and don't squeak on the high octave like some straight bores.

  • Thank you! I think I might just pick up this nifty little instrument.

  • @differous01: the maker is John Sindt (U.S.)

  • @brkflute

Yes - I recognized it right away - the favorite in my collection! It's heavier and has a fuller sound - and can really go the octaves.

  • nothing else but pure perfection and beauty. Beautiful Irish music :D x

  • What else is there but offense in pointing that out?

  • nicely done

  • Wow, that's what I call speed! Amazing! Great job!

  • Glorious. The discipline has been worth it, dear fellow. I'm an American actor (family from Tiperary) planning a one man show based on the Darby O'Gill stories. A few months ago I decided Darby should play the tin whistle. Since the character is quite poor I've been using teh simple Clarke D. I have a ways to go, but I have great inspiration from these videos. I'll be watching for more from you.

  • I'm an American actor (family from Tipperary) planning a one-man show based on the Darby O'Gill stories. A few months ago I decided that Darby should play the tin whistle. How grand that I can hear and see this craft so finely preserved and presented. Obviously all that practice has been worthwhile. Congrats to you, young man!

  • OMG is this THE Cian Kearins? This is the stuff of legends. I once brushed past him in Supermacs in Letterkenny and I haven't washed my arm since.

    LEDDDDDDDDGE

  • My congratulations from Bari (Italy); me too I play tin whistles! Bravo

  • io sono di Mola, vorrei iniziare come hobby. tu da dove te li sei procurati? ciao

  • gonna cry on this tune :P

    lovin the music

    thats why i love irland

  • Well this guy IS the champion...

    I don't understand the discouragement.

  • listen if you had videos on your page showing superior technique, i would understand, but you just sound like an arrogant dickhead..

You have to lift your fingeres high enough, its not a shabby technique, tells me you dont have a clue what your talking about.

  • Irish music is so gorgeous! Hail Ireland and all it's muscians for ever! x

  • ahhh, I'm just learning kind of online.. my dad plays but hasn't played for a long time.. I'm SO jealous of Cian. WOW. I aspire to play this well!

  • OMG! U r amazing! x

  • Nice playing Cian. Beautiful rhythm and melody.

  • I've really wanted to learn the tin whistle or whatever the shit that is, but God damn, watching that is intimidating.

  • that would get the oul toes tappin!

  • anyone know the brand of whistle he's using?

  • That looks like a John Sindt whistle. He's the best whistle maker in the world imho.

  • As great as celtic tunes a good ol tin whistles get, to me all celtic tunes, or at least the jigs seem so confusing to make. I sometimes if not often can't find out if there's even a chorus, not that that's a bad thing, but it frustrates me that fast celtic tunes seem to be an artful string of notes that fly in all directions, but I'm not able to figure one like the piece heard here. :( I guess this is the plight of an ocarina player? XD maybe i should invest in a tin whistle as well... :3

  • Those whistle tunes remind me of guitar solos sometimes, fast melodic work without really a chorus or something but somehow centered around a basis but very freely flowing from there on. I'm so getting a tin whistle and go on walking around in the forest playing some melodies, this must be awesome!

  • Irish tunes are divided into parts, not stanza/chorus.

If you think the music seems confusing, don't worry. That's normal for those who are not used to this music.

  • wow. great. inspiring! thanks!
