When u solo, you can do it at really fast speed but u cant do it properly at slow speed, there is somethin really wrong with ur playing... Something is really not right somewhere and its a very serious problem.

@hiddeninmist11 Technical ability isn't everything. In fact, the most technical guitarists tend to be the most boring. My favourite guitarist has always been Tony Iommi and he even admits himself he's not the most technically gifted. Malmsteen on the other hand bores me to tears. As does Satch to some extent. Also, this was a bad example of his sweeping. Check out the Valley Of The Damned solo. I've seen this guy live in an intimate setting and he's a lot better than many people give him credit
@j800r yea but think of it this way.... Randy Rhoads was as technical as they came and he in my eyes is one of the best if not the best metal guitarist of all time. Same with Dimebag Darrell and hes got such crazy types of harmonics going on all the time its way more technical then it sounds.

I went to GIT with Herman back in 1992. He was a really bad guitarist but his country paid for him to live in Hollywood and spend many years at GIT studying. Even after 19yrs of playing he still isn't technically good but he knows what he is doing..
it doesnt bother me if hes sloppy in this video. music is not only about speed, but also feeling, and enjoying playing guitar. i like hermans style. yeah this video is a little sloppy, but live and on the records, heplays fansasticly.

The thing about Herman is, is that he is self taught (I know he's not the only one) . He spent pretty much the whole of the 90's finding a style that suits him, therefore no one will really understand his style like he does and it may appear to be 'sloppy' because its not ' By the book" . Listen to jeff lomis, yngwie malmsteen, and many other good guitarists and youll see that he is overrated. hopefully. :)

@hiddeninmist11 Technical ability isn't everything. In fact, the most technical guitarists tend to be the most boring. My favourite guitarist has always been Tony Iommi and he even admits himself he's not the most technically gifted. Malmsteen on the other hand bores me to tears. As does Satch to some extent. Also, this was a bad example of his sweeping. Check out the Valley Of The Damned solo. I've seen this guy live in an intimate setting and he's a lot better than many people give him credit

@j800r yea but think of it this way.... Randy Rhoads was as technical as they came and he in my eyes is one of the best if not the best metal guitarist of all time. Same with Dimebag Darrell and hes got such crazy types of harmonics going on all the time its way more technical then it sounds.

@hiddeninmist11 dude every guitarist has their flaws, which is why its a shame that herman seems to always get shit for sometimes being sloppy. OK so his own personal technique isn't textbook. but he is a creative guitarist. whereas yngwie, while he may seem cleaner at times, often repeats the same scalar runs over and over. i admit that the likes of john petrucci and jeff loomis are better than herman, but i still like herman more. its just personal preferance at the end of the day.

I went to GIT with Herman back in 1992. He was a really bad guitarist but his country paid for him to live in Hollywood and spend many years at GIT studying. Even after 19yrs of playing he still isn't technically good but he knows what he is doing..

The thing about Herman is, is that he is self taught (I know he's not the only one) . He spent pretty much the whole of the 90's finding a style that suits him, therefore no one will really understand his style like he does and it may appear to be 'sloppy' because its not ' By the book" . Well hey, he is making a lot of people happy with the music him and the rest of Dragonforce perform so he is definitely doing right. If that's the case, then all the kids who got a guitar last week and put up videos of them playing Teen Spirit aren't poor guitarists, they're just "guitarists with their own style." Notice how all the other revolutionary, and highly acclaimed, guitarists don't play sloppily, they're clean in their playing.
