So the government pays taxes on the products it purchases and services it uses. I fail to see how that is a deal breaker. We use similar accounting practices under the current system. If you receive a check from the government you have pay taxes on it. The check is deducted from this years budget and the taxes collected on it are added into the next years ledger. Same deal. Its a valid accounting practice.
I like FTHub's response and I also wanted to add that the Fair Tax could have been written so that the Government would not pay taxes but there was a very good reason for not doing this. It would give the government an unfair advantage over the private sector. There is no reason for this imbalance to exist. Even while paying taxes on the goods it buys the government will receive the same amount $ to $ that it does now. The tax code should fund the government...that's all...nothing more.
@TruthMattersToMe The government will be treated just like every other "End User". It will be taxed on the NEW goods and services that it purchases. Like FairTaxHub, I fail to see how that is a deal breaker. Especially when every single service member will get their full paycheck back. YES, all active military and retirees pay income and payroll taxes; which they will get back when the FairTax is enacted.

FairTaxHUB is meant to push the FairTax conversation forward. The FairTax idea is powerful and would revolutionize this country economically and by extension socially. The current system is punishing work ethic and ambition...the very things a slowing economy needs more of. We at the HUB are not focused on what the tax percentage is or if government taxes its own services. Its the overall idea we need.
I agree. I wish everyone would take the time to read the FairTax Bill (Plain English Version). You can even download it to your computer. I did. My wife is a CPA and has a Masters in Business from Duke University. She loves the FairTax. Her bother also has a masters in business from Duke and a law degree from WVU. He's currently a deputy attorney general, although I can't mention the state here. He specializes in tax. He loves it also!

The Fairtax concept is awesome -- but so is the concept of a magician making a dove come out of a napkin.
Here is a clue -- the dove didn't come from the napkin.

When the fed gov sends itself a check -- it has to PAY the check too. So there is no spendable income from itself.

I did read the FT Book -- four times, and have the second book.
Funny how the first Fairtax book brags that "Fairtax makes the federal government become a MAJOR taxpayer". Page 148.
City, county, and state governments have to- pay this huge sales tax too.
Fairtax math is based on over a trillion in taxes FROM the government.
But then the second book -- which was going to answer critics -- never dared touch this subject
Why?
Because that's their HOGWASH, and they know it.

But the FairTax ALSO gets rid of (regressive) payroll taxes, the AMT, etc AND booms the American economy. So its much more than just income taxes.
