that's what i tell to all my students throughout the years: "it's NOT what you do, it's HOW you do it". i've seen & dance with so many "ladies salsa dancers" doing so many HUGE movements, & they loose the concept of "partner connection" & "musicality", & also they do not dance well/or like, UNLESS they're doing turns patters combinations or spinning!

Study your Bachata jovencita, it DOES have Salsa steps if you watch it, its just a different body movement and ritmo. Salsa is danced 1-2-3-pause-5-6-7-pause, or L-R-L-pause-R-L-R-pause. If you watch their feet that is EXACTLY what they are doing - Left - Right - Left - Pause, Right-Left-Right-Pause. It simply has more 'secondary' steps that fill in the pause instead of the hip thing. The only difference is more foot work and body movement. Do you homework, and watch your mouth jovencita.
