  • Must play nonstop on Zangief's IPod.

  • You must mean, Tetris Type A, that play in the game tetris...

  • Wonderful video! The comparisons towards the end are played in two different keys, by the way.

  • The is the most interesting history lesson I've ever watched.

  • Someone needs to find the link for the Russian version

  • We gave them war....they give us this game

  • @Silv3rDrag: I know, we're evil...

Tetris should've been released during the cold war, it would've snapped it in two!

    (was it?)

  • @ThePoketrix According to Wiki, it was released in 1984 so yep

  • ˆJˆ. KolKolKol

  • Even the Game is Russian.^^

  • прохладный

  • just came here from neogaf :L

  • Konami beats Nintendo when it comes at using classical songs for their games, hehe. But still, well done at covering Korobeiniki's origin.

  • Wow, how is that description less than 1000 characters?!?! XD

  • Wow, that catchy Tetris theme came from THAT? AWESOME!:

  • Okay, I'm going off of no research whatsoever, but I'm pretty sure "tetris" is a Greek word meaning "four" (i.e. every piece is made of four blocks). However, the game was MADE in Russia originally.

  • @friendlyoreo No research, absolute bullshit. Tetris comes from the word Tetromino, which is the name of the shapes in the games.

  • @skully367: To defend @friendlyoreo, he's partially right, Tetra- is a Greek prefix meaning four and is the source of the name of Tetris. Look it up on Wikipedia. But yes, Tetris blocks are tetrominoes. (score 1 for ThePoketrix, 0 for trolls who fail to research themselves and yet say, and I directly quote from skully367, "No research, absolute bullshit". Oh, I'm in love with Wikipedia...)

  • @ThePoketrix That comment was half a year ago and I can't even remember posting it. I know that Tetra- means four

  • @skully367 :Sorry... I never look at the age of comments... heheh... (note to self: punch self in the face later.)

  • so finally, what nintendo wanted to tell us???

  • I remember learning this in my grade-school music class. The English lyrics were loosely based on the original: "Treasures have I in my korobushka / Can you hear the peddler's cry? / Though you see me in rags and tatters / I wear a smile on my face." (etc.)

I agree that whatever, uh, wheeling and dealing went on in that rye field overnight, in the morning the woman had agreed to marry him (taking his ring), which is why his load *felt* so light. I love it!

  • thats pretty cool! Great post!

  • I like this song. Really Decent. It reminds me of a Russian composition mixed with Ukrainian and a little bit of Middle East like Saudi Arabia and Qatar :)

  • I didnt know about the russian song, and it seems that you investigated a lot, any other person would just add the song and that's it, but you added a lot of info about it, thank you very much!!

  • Великая песня.

  • means that SSBB uses subliminal messages

  • @Alexcar3000 you lost me... the original tetris was also taken from that song

  • *sings* Shapes made of four coloed blocks like a T or a box come down in falling bricks...

    Oh, Brentalfloss...

  • where did you get this version of korobeiniki? i NEED this one on my mp3-player. (and no, i won't use youtube to mp3 converter software. quality's too shitty.)

  • @achaziel

    Seconded! I want this song!

  • wow ! you are really good at this....Nintendo 4 ever

oh yea, who is the woman who appears when lyrics say : once i see the dark-eyed lass ?

  • Hey people, I like this alot for the fact that I can read russian XD

  • Quick note before I carry on. Tetris actually doesn't come from Russian, it's a portmanteau of the Greek(?) "Tetra," meaning "Four," and "Tennis." You know, the game. Which is nothing like Tetris, but the developer liked tennis. Now, to my actual comment. Definitely informative to anyone unaware of the origins behind this song. And to those who are, such as myself? STILL HELPFUL! I'd been looking for the full version of Korobeiniki for ages. That it's on my Wii? Embarassing.

  • I love how Japanese made some things based off of other cultures, Pit being Greek, Tetris, for example, Russians, what else? Oh Japanese people, I love you

  • @some1163 ...Tetris was made by a Russian.

  • I love how Japanese made some things based off of other cultures, Pit being Greek, Tetris, for example, Russians, what else? Oh Japanese people, I love you

  • choir is amazing

  • Just for clarification (I'm pretty close to being tone-deaf): Type-A on the Gameboy is "Korobeiniki" and Type-A on the NES is "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy", right?

  • @KitBikyuu Yes you are right.

  • So, one of the best games on the original Gameboy, and a massive classic in Nintendo History, easily in the top 25 list, was Russian? Hot damn.

  • what version of Korobeiniki did you use

  • That compare/contrast thing at the end somehow made me seasick...

    ??

  • Woah, I never knew that the famous Tetris song is actually very old.

  • Dude playing the Tetris wasn't strategizing very well.

  • creepy

  • you're wrong dude, the second part of the type-a music fromt he gameboy (where you put the lines "Katya is haggling with care") doesn't belong to the song at all (that melody is not even in the version you put at the beginning). It's from another song called "Troika".

  • and thats why im proud to be russin

  • OMG, it's true, Tetris pieces only have 4 blocks! I didn't realise that before xD

I didn't know it's music was based on a russian song either. Great work CCD

  • That video is amazing someone took the time to truly explain a unique piece of history

  • This is awesome. And very educational.

  • IM so stupid because i thought tetra ment 4 and thats when i realized tetris pieces only had four blocks

  • actually tetra means something with 4 pieces, so dont feel too stupid

  • HaliDMK, Tetra technically means segments containing four pieces. So don't worry.

  • Lyrics:

Roy, could walk up, walk up close! Which can yell a chicken in parch, duh! Watch away and watch the pole which can walk away, ha ha, in France! watch away and watch a pole which can walk away, ha ha, in France! Twinky Winky is a song! Will you stop?! The mole is walking close! Watch the pee and care the mole! Will you care the potty is dancing cool! Watch the pee and care the mole! Will you care the potty is dancing cool! Hey, we saw a zillion flies! Will you please say who said"Me booty

  • When I see the dark-eyed lass, I will showcase all my goods.

  • AHHHH MOTHERLAND

  • preety cool the first song of all

  • FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!

  • holy shit her name is katya n shes russian too!! how fucken weird is that lol

  • Well Katya is a Russian name

  • wwaa now i love more tetris :)

    because is from russia <3

btw from what group is the arrangement O:? pls o want to know! xD!

  • If we had time travel do you think the russians will be mad or creeped out by DDR's version of koribinki?(tetris trance)

  • This was very informative!! I didn't even know korobushka even existed

  • i saw an ice cream truck play tetris type a!

  • Tetris is easily the best thing to ever come out of Russia.

  • im willing to forgive them for the whole cold war thing just because they gave us this

  • of course, because the cold war is their fault only...

  • @soepstengel2000

    you rock.

  • 00:48

    O_o

    woah... dude...

  • Wow, you really put a lot of work into this. Very well done, much appreciated. ^^

  • Hmm, I thought that one of the songs came from a song called "Postcards From Russia", but I could be wrong. I heard it being played in my step-sister's high school and when I heard it, I was thinking, "OMG TETRIS!".

  • talk about catchy. 0.0

  • Very great job on making this video! I learned a lot! :D so...thanks! :D

  • My grandpa Mike played Korebeiniki a lot.

  • So Nintendo used a Russian song? Cool. X)

  • I always knew tetris was made in Russia, but a Russian FOLK SONG! Now THAT is amazing

  • @pumpkinbot they actualy used 2 russian themes. one for tetris, and one for soda popinski in punch out since he is from russia ( to see what i am talk..er typing about. look up soda popinski's real theme.)

  • @pumpkinbot that's pretty logic, if you take in account that the original tetris was developed by the russian programmer Alexey Pajitnov in 1986. nintendo released their version of tetris a few years later. (check wikipedia, it's described veeery detailled there. also very interesting. ;) )

  • @pumpkinbot well tetris originated from russia you know? The Russians gave us one of the greatest puzzle games ever! (and yes, the music)

  • @pumpkinbot Tetris is actually a Russian game

  • I thank the music in Brawl is much better.

  • Wow this really taught me a lot lol! I had no idea.

  • i had no idea that this was originally russian music. this song is awesome on Brawl and Tetris so thank you Nikolay!

  • Why not? Tetris was made by a Russian

  • This is a fantastic video. I've always been obsessed with the catchy tetris song (from the gameboy version), and no you've provided the super-awesome russian version!

Could you possibly tell me where I can find the MP3 to it? Yes, i'm that obsessed ^_^

  • LET'S PLAY SOME TETRIS!!!!!!!

  • Wait... But I thought the SSBB song was sung in latin 0-o

  • yeah, the main theme is, but this is tetris song which is one of the songs in super smash brawl on luigi's mansion

  • it is.

but this is showing tetris type A's origin and why it plays on Luigi's Mansion

  • Thanks for the awesome vid CCD!

  • It also is from tetris? Really?

  • I thought this song was a great one to have lyrics! Now I know why!

  • I love the russian Version!

  • YAY! CrappyCaptureDevice is doing History behind Brawl. YES!

  • W00T! CCD IS BACK!

  • Wow! This video took more work than most. And now I want to learn the English lyrics, just so I can sing them and annoy my little brother when we play Brawl...

  • ". And... if he's selling cloth, where did the turquoise ring come from? "

Maybe he was wearing it? He was selling cloth, and she tricked him and stole the ring?

  • Maybe He Proposed With The Turquoise Ring And So His Crate Felt Lighter.

  • Very fascinating--now i finally know how thw song goes! (I knew it was a Russian song, but was curious to what the words were)

  • Wow!

  • How much time did you put into this?

  • now now...i knew about the russian song thingy in tetris but i never knew it exactly....thanks CCD!

also ccd....take this and the videos to come easy, make them fun to you, not a job nn

  • Great video! Can you post a link to that mp3, I love that version of Korobeiniki.

  • Please... please tell me where you found the exact audio for the first segment.... It's just so great...

I knew it was based off a Russian folk song... but the folk song is even more catchy! Jinjo/10, my friend! I thought this was a good review, though, the anticipation for the remix was to be shot down.... it wasn't that good, but it's still cool to sing along too ^^ Thanks for the subs!

  • Thanks for this great video

  • very interesting, Good job

  • I knew that the Tetris music was based off a Russian folk song, but that still didn't stop me from being rather surprised to hear the original version.

Very thorough video, looking forward to more Brawl History!

  • hey CCD, it's nice to see new vids, and a few tid bits of info for you, yes yankee doodle is very recognizible to the USA, but it was actually a British made song sung by the soldiers during the American Revolution to mock the americans, the line about "stuck a feather in it's cap and called it macaroni" is referring to the ever unpopular macaroni club of the time who were young wealthy british gentlemen who went to italy and france to wear the flamboyant fashions of the time and were ridiculed.

  • aren't you going to talk to me at all and another thing I like the song

  • YAY! History of SSBB! I'm so happy!

I think that the turquoise ring implies hat they married, but that's just me

  • really like this song, but I wonder why they picked it for the mansion, it played in Tetris, not there.

Whatever, glad to see you back!

  • there should be a tetris stage at least...

  • I'm not too sure but I think Tetris is originally a Russian game.

  • your capture thing is awesome

  • Heh, nice personal visual aids, CCD.

  • Ah... This made me come back. I'm very interested in the music of Brawl.

  • Good start on history behind Brawl.

Even though it was kinda hard to tell, I can somewhat hear how Koreibeniki and Tetris go together.

  • Wow, I never the Tetris song was a song about a merchant trying to win a girl's heart. Thanks for posting this video, it's very interesting.

  • thanks. you increase my knowledge of video game and other stuff with every video!

  • where can i get the song Korobeiniki

  • "Tetris" was one of the first games I ever got, and the "Game Boy" was my first gaming system.

  • Uh, hey CCD, the composer for "Tetris: Type A" (9:14) says "Russian Folksong"...

Is this where you got your suspicions up?

  • another amazing job

  • incredibly informative!

  • I never realized the original Tetris theme originated from an actual song...I can tell I'm gonna learn a lot from this series...

  • once i see the dark-haired lass

I shall showcase all my goods.

  • O_o

  • Thanks for the comments and everything, guys (and gals)!

I plan on going in a logical order for movesets and stages and everything else, but I plan on mixing random music-history videos in between the ordered videos of movesets, etc.

  • You´re back, Yes, I´ve waited so long! MOre, MOre!!! Great work 5 Stars

  • Geez, I wrote some farcical lyrics to Tetris Type A, unaware that it already had lyrics. Thanks for posting this! Now I know, & knowing is half the battle!

    G.I.Joe!

  • Holy smokes! I just realized that you're even going for the music as well... this project will take aeons to complete. Any plans about the uploaded videos/week?? Just uploading whenever you're feeling it or do you have some kind of plan with all these videos...?

  • i got to admit this WAY SUPER WELL DONE off all your work this is amazing two thumbs up all the way :)

  • Thanks!

  • Is it just me, or does the actual song Korobeiniki...not make any sense? >_>

It kinda jumps around nonsensically. Then again, I may just be missing some key element, or it could've been something lost in translation.

  • Comment removed

  • .......

Did you read the text in this video? Not trying to be mean, but,

    1. This was originally a poem written in 1861. You're about 80 years off base.

    2. Some merchant hooking up with some woman in a rye field has absolutely nothing to do with war.

    3. Russia was one of the Allies (the winning side) by the end of the war. Yeah, some Russians died no doubt, but they weren't totally obliterated like Germany or Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    4. How did you even get that from the above comment?

  • yeah this is amazing

  • When I found out that the first Brawl history vid you were going to do was this I was a little disappointed because your character/stage videos always seem more interesting than your music ones. But when I watched the video, it was obvious that you put a lot of work into it. So, I am not disappointed anymore.

  • So you took those pictures?? Nice job, man. (Is that you kissing the girl?)

  • finally!!

  • "once i see the dark eyed lass i will showcase my goods" *flee*

  • Amazing, you definitely don't like to leave something half-done, don't you? xD

    Great job, CCD. Great job.

  • on 1:30 , is that you ?

    nice couple :)

  • When I saw

"Idyot", I thought it said "idiot" XD

    I love this song, though

  • Really great job. I had no idea how old this song was. Excellent work. I look forward tot he next video.

  • "I took what I found because trying to find a picture of a dark-eyed woman and kissing always lead me into some type of porn"

    ROFL wtf? xD

  • ur back!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT

  • Superb!

  • yay ur back

  • how does this tie into announcement #6 ?

  • His Wii is back. Hes lucky enough to even have a wii...

  • great vid but next time plz put in less text i was really getting boerd.

i always thought there was something weird about that song it just didn't seem to be a video game song

  • Juxtaposing eh? Someone knows their media very well...

  • Bravo! Bravo! Amzaing Job as usual! Although i fell asleep at the begining due to the small schooling lesson there. I am actuly alergic to school X3

  • Wow that makes 2 of us o.O

  • Hell of a job, your vids are just too good.

  • Yay first Brawl History is here. Interesting. I never knew Tetris was Russian. But that explains the Moscow-like structures in the game when I played it in an arcade.

  • Man, I can't imagine the time you took to do all this. I know who's getting an A in Russian folk song history...

  • And that's cool because Korobeiniki is one of the songs you can play Tetris Party. Cool to see their using the REAL name.

  • Nice, but why are you starting with music? In the melee series, you arranged them in categories (Characters, stages, music, etc)

  • That was amazing! How were you able to do all that research on such a an old foreign song.

  • Oy, my 50th fav!

  • Time to sing some Tetris :D!!!

  • That hot I never knew that Tetris A was some folk song sound better too

  • is that you kissing that girl, did you take all those pix

  • I really liked this video because Tetris: Type A (or Korobeiniki) is my all-time favourite song in Brawl. It kicks ass.

  • Whew, back to job, uh?

That was a REALLY deep analysis, I like that of you.

  • Epic! You rule!

    Nuff said.

  • I never knew anything about that guy before now. Cool!
