Hamsandwich. It does have a deeper meaning. It refers to a greater love that transcends mere possession. The singer is fully prepared to stay at home without his great love, as long as she/they (the Scotland team in this case) gets the success they deserve. He wants them home, but not too soon. I always found it very touching. It could be sung to your loved one competing at the Olympics. Who remembers the official England song from 98? This was class and I'm English...
