  • Yes, I've been into Nam Myoho Renge Kyo for about a week now and I have been chanting each day, maybe more then two times a day, but I know and read that we're suppose to chant something else, what you mentioned at the end

Do you know where I can find these words?

  • RBBOY Thank you for taking the time and effort to share such beautiful information. This is a wonderful chant, vibration of the Heart , and been doing this over an hour with all the different You Tube videos. I like that you have taken the time to explain. So I can get it better in my memory bank to chant correctly. Blessings for you and your life.

  • This appears to me to be a perversion of the buddha's teachings which promoted simplicity and moving beyond craving. Subtract obsessive thoughts of attaining anything-do not add! I have spoken with several Soka Gakkai people who all seem to be chanting for their own personal gain, and all of whom appear rather self absorbed. But, if this can bring you happiness, then good for you.

  • @TantansVids I totally agree with you. And yes the ego seems to rise its ugly head. however, the idea is that people begin to realise how important treasures of the heart are above all else. "friendship, love, compassion, family etc" But yes I agree with you. But dont judge an entire organisation based on the opinons of a few. The wonderful thing about human beings is that we are always changing all the time. Learning, growing etc.

  • @TantansVids perversion is a strong word. This is based on the Lotus Sutra, one of the Buddhas final sutras.

  • The Universe, according to Buddha, is governed by one single umbrella law based on the

science and rhythm of cause and effect, and he said that mankind would eventually prove this.

    This law which should be chanted by the human voice is called;

    Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.

By chanting aloud every day for at least 10 minutes, one can put oneself into perfect rhythm with the

Universe, and therby gain insights, wisdom, energy, happiness and benefits that would be otherwise not be available to us.

  • this is great

  • Thank you for this interesting video. I am new to Nichiren Buddhism, and I found this very helpful.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I've been stumbling these past few days and your energy is helping me get back on my feet. Nam myoho renge kyo, brother.

  • Second question. Can you use the chant to focus on somoning specific things into your life. Money, romantic relationships, curing an illness etc

  • I chant them extremely slow to really feel the vibration in my jest and stomach

  • I've been in the habit of chanting Diamoku. But with a tad veriation. I've been chanting each word extremely slow in order ten times a night. And I've added Om and kyu at the end. I find that it helps me sleep. It has pretty much cured my horrible insomnia that I've been suffering from for many, many years now. I'm still whet behind the ears. Tell me what you think of my veriation to the chant please. Thank you for putting this video up :)

  • @RemingtonNevada Hi there :-) I will send you a direct message! :-)

  • 南無妙法蓮華經from JAPAN.

  • this is very cool. it's my understanding we chant it as is (not in English or another translation) because those sounds make the vibration needed to connect to the Universe.

  • @grushion i was wondering if u could help me with some questions i have about nichiren daishonins writings?

  • @Buddhist1986 what would you like to know? :)

  • I loved this. I have been looking for an explaination and yes I know there are differant meanings but I wanted to feel comfort in the chanting and now I do. Thank you.

  • Thanks so much for explaining all this for people who might misunderstand our chanting. Have been practicing since I was 13, am 27 now.

Wish you the best from Paris, France.

  • I believe also there is something unique about the sound of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. This may be just luck or coincidence - but the vibration, rhythm and sound when you chant this - especially with others, is a remarkably dynamic, energetic, life affirming thing. It trips off the tongue easily. Having a consistent pronunciation, allows everyone around the world to participate "with one mind" too. I would allow another planet could find a similar perfect phrase. But this one works here.

  • Bear in mind also that although the pronunciation is Japanese, the written characters are Classical Chinese - from whence Japan received it's writing historically. Chinese is an extremely concise language in which each character can convey a variety of different, though related, meanings.

  • One reason why modern languages like English can't do justice to the mantra, is that any translation would lose meaning. The individual 5 characters of Myo-ho ren-ge kyo - have an extraordinary depth of meaning that is also entirely consistent with the buddhist philosophy and the nature of all phenomena. Why this "ancient" Japanese translation of the Sanskrit - Chinese title of the Lotus Sutra? One reason - Nam is sanskrit (east) and the Japanese (west) - bringing together East & West.

  • Nam myoho renge kyo is changing my life. I am keeping it documented in my blog on livejournal called "curethedolphins".... please feel free to follow my blog and give me any feedback u can

  • I think it is such a great thing that you are doing. Teaching the world of Nichirens work. I am an active member of the SGI in Memphis TN and I love to here people read about it and chant daimoku.... Thank you

  • Hmm, I hadn't heard the death-to-life explanation of Myoho; I thought 'Myo' was "the Divine Sound" & 'ho' was "our obedience." Also, I thought 'Kyo' was "the Universal Sound (the obedient blended with the natural); thus making 'Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo' mean '(i) heed the Divine Sound & navigate the natural acting/reacting Universe to Obey the Divine Sound.'

  • @mythmanjay all correct. Nam myoho renge kyo has many meanings. Just like e=mc2 is a highly complex forumula, which is more then just letters and symbols.

  • Can I chant NamMyohoRengeKyo in English and have the same effect?? If not why is it so important to chant it in Japanese since the Buddha did not speak Japanese? Please respond Please.

  • @Jackthemeat If your password is a word in Greek, will IT still work in English? (and really, "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo" IS how to say it in English---Japanese being pictographic)

  • @mythmanjay

    who originally wrote the password?

  • @Jackthemeat the password has existed since before existence was a wag in Flying Spagetti's noodle.

  • @mythmanjay

Robbie said that the Lotus Sutra was originally taught in Sanskrit and translated into the languages of the cultures it traveled to. So could you please answer my question. Im earnestly trying to learn more about SGI and Im asking intelligent respectful questions. So lets try this again. Can I chant the सद्धर्मपुण्डरीकसूत्र Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra in English and achieve the same results? If not why? why does it have to be chanted in Japanese, since that is a translation too?

  • @Jackthemeat It has a lot to do with your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind changes its form to fit around the words you give it. Think of it as the words being the key that fit the lock of your subconscious. In order to share the Buddhas' subconscious, one must use the same key that fits it. Will the key to my apartment unlock your car? Why not? Because the 'lock & key'-combinations--tho similar--are slightly different. That's why the mentor/disciple bond is so important;

  • @Jackthemeat

You cannot chant it in English because English is a material language. It is good for business and administration. But its not good for philosophy or spirituality. It won't give you the same effect as chanting in Sanskrit. Sanskrit is a spiritual language. It'll give you a different effect. Japanese is a sweet language. It's more feminine in nature. So, the effect produced is pleasant.

  • @Jackthemeat Jack. That is a great question. Why should chanting the mantra in Japanese, or Chinese work, and not in english. I have asked this question my self. I think I will make a video about it. Thank you for your excellent question.

  • Nam MyoHo Renge Kyo is not a mere combination of words. The words &the pronounciation all r linked in a way it gives the same vibration as chanting lotus sutra itself. In asian countries, there are experts who can calculate the power of these sounds. They even use this methodology to give names to babies(They say the sounds that you use to call a particuar person affects that person)I'm not saying Daishonin used the same method, but tryin say that these words cant b translated the way we want it.

  • @Jackthemeat Nichiren came up with the phrase, who was Japanese, which is why it's said in Japanese.

  • WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

  • what is the music you use in this?

  • Thank you Robbie

  • For some reason I love when Uk SGI members explain Nichren teachings. it sounds so peaceful. SGI Canada member here.

  • I like your movie, I want to see your explanation about Nichiren buddhism, again and again. I am also a member of SGI, Japan.

  • thanks brother

  • u need to meditate and say the chant or how is it work?

  • @AlexxMendoza12 it is a form of meditation, but with the eyes open. hands together sit facing a blank wall. and chant out loud - nam myoho renge kyo 15 minutes every morning and night. it will help you focus and find clarity.

  • @RobbieBobbyBoy got it , thank you i will try it

  • @RobbieBobbyBoy got it , thank you i will try it

  • u need to meditate and say that nam myoho renge kyo or what?

  • Thank you so much from Cordoba Argentina.

  • Are you a SGI member?

  • @yukomattingly yes :-)

  • Very good resume!

  • Correction: Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō (南無妙法蓮華経). The bar over the "o" (ō) in romanji denotes a long o sound. Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō (南無妙法蓮華経) is used in all Nichiren Traditions with exception to the Fuji School (Nichiren Shōshū (日蓮正宗), The Sōka Gakkai International (創価学会,), and the Shōshinkai(正信会 ).

  • I should mention that the Sōka Gakkai (SGI) is but only one organisation for the Nichiren School of Buddhism. in other words they have no monopoly. It is the largest lay organisation for Buddhism. There are about at least 37 different sects for Nichiren's Buddhism. Look into Nichiren Shū (not to be confused with Nichiren Shōshū which the SGI used to be a part of). From what I know Nichiren Shū (Nichiren Order) seems to be more participatory than the Fuji School (SGI/NST). Namu Myoho Renge Kyo!

  • You thought that you have a rather long Gongyo book? Ha! The SGI's is a well abridged version! I have the version not only wih the former "B" section (Hoben Pon Dai Juruku...) but also with the "Seo -Ge" prose that even Nichiren Shoshu had dropped during the 1930's that is about as long itself as both the hoben Pon and Jigage is together! (Only avaliable from the Shoshinkai, a small separate Nichiren based organisation that broke away from the Nichiren Shoshu Temple)!

  • All I CAN SAY IS I FOUND THIS VIDEO AT A TIME WHEN IN MY LIFE I NEED CHANGE AND IT HAS MADE ME THINK ALOT ABOUT LIFE AND WHY I AM ON THIS EARTH MUCH THANKS WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MORE

  • @707centavo hello my friend. Glad you found this video enlightening. there is much to learn and it is a life long process. I have written a lot of stuff down and you can learn much from Disaku Ikeda, a great man who has written much about Buddhism and daily life, and just every day things like dealing with problems in life in general. i will send you a direct message with some things for you to read.

  • @707centavo I'M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU CENTAVO. YOU FOUND A BEATIFULL WAY TO HELP THE WORLD AND MIINIMIZE YOUR OWN KARMA. KEEP IT UP! DONT GIVE UP!

    NAM MYOHO RENGUE KYO!!

  • You should not pay that attention to matter, the scroll is a peace of paper, you are fooling your selves. Do not bow onto material and graven images. after all you are superior because you have a soul. matter has no soul. I was practising once, thank sweet Jesus not anymore. i know this religion is just convenient for us but the point you are missing is that we need to see our sins face to face. The Love of God will help you as it helped me and all of who looked for it. Be blessed.

  • You are SO sweet!!

  • whaou u did it ....brave lion.....very good

  • As a begginer u have explained the essence of this sutra beautifully.

     Gr8 video RobbieBB

    Thnx

  • Thank you.. very well said.I am new to the practice and want to learn all I can.Have a great day!

  • a big hug from Buenos Aires

  • Over 30 years ago I lived in Hollywood, CA, I got involved with a Buddist group, we chanted Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, we did the entire booklet you showed, I even went to a temple and received my scroll, which I still have. I haven't chanted for years, however I do remember the "high" it used to induce. I never believed in a personal god, so Buddhism was something I could accept more so than Xianity or other religions. I am mostly agnostic today, but this still appeals to me.

  • @JOHNINCOLUMBUS hello ...if u do have a little faith in it just taste it again by starting to chant even just 2 minutes a day ....or at any time u are even walking , have a bath a rest under the shower ........

  • Thanks for this Robbie.

  • Thank you.

  • Hi Robbie. Thanks for the interesting videos and positive perspective. I'm just getting into Nicheren Buddhism and chanting. Looking forward to it. Thanks for your useful explanations

  • Amazing Work! Keep it up and blessing.

  • hey! robbie if possible can u email dis wat u r reading coz m nt able to und. m indian.....

  • I have been practicing since last August, Rob, and this is the deal. Everyone I turn to for answers gives me a different one. Oh, and about the Gohonzon, the one is Japan is sacred the rest are made out of paper. Nichiren said:"If you think the mystic law (Nam Myoho Renge Kyo) is outside yourself, then you are following an impure teaching.

  • Robby, keep up the good work, buddhist in norwich.

  • I don't know if videos are allowed of this, I mean u shouldn't photograph the scroll etc. Are you sure this is ok that you're doing this?

  • @filmfelineadmin i have not taken any pictures of the scroll. :) yes it is disrespectful to take pictures. It is only disrespectful, nothing more.

  • @RobbieBobbyBoy i think anything in anyway we do for sharing our source of happiness with others and helping them achieve happiness too is a good thing. I love the explanation and history insight you give too!!

thank you for contributing to kosen rufu!! we will keep building a world of peace!!

    you inspire me!!

  • @RobbieBobbyBoy I AM A POOR PRACTITIONER OF THIS FAITH. I WHOLE HEATEDLY BELIEVE IN THIS, YET SIMPLY HAVE BEEN TOO LAZY TO DO AS I "KNOW" I SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THANK YOU TOMOKO FUJIOKA

  • @filmfelineadmin i can understand your concern and thank you for caring for the SGI in that way!! But we must never be afraid to share Nam Myoho Renge Kyo with others!! It can only lead to happiness and wisdom!!

you are sweet!! please take care of urself!!

  • Robbie,

You've made a great cause for your life in making this video. Well done!

I love your observation about holding the beads between your palms being a symbol of taking your life into your own hands. That's one of the greatest aspects of our practice: We already have the courage, compassion and wisdom to deal with any situation, no matter how fearful or depressed we might feel initially, and all we have to do is activate it by chanting.

    NMRK!

  • thank you for sharing this ! chanting daimoku does really work ! =) keep chanting too. nam myo ho renge kyo

  • Thanks for sharing this. I am just now investigating nichiren buddhism. I ordered a few books on it that are due to arrive this coming week. Please wish me luck. I hope you find budhahood here and now

  • My brother joined the war in Cambodia in 1979. Fear of her son life my mom prayed night and day or whenever she could for my brother's peace... There was one night when guarding at his bunker, he suddenly heard her prayer of "Nam myo horen ge kyo" vibrated warmly around him...Then he woke up by a bullet head that bumped to his helmet and span it around. The bullet then bounce down to the ground... His life was protected by my mom's prayer of "Nam myo horenge kyo". The bullet is kept as...

  • Amazing story, you should make a video about this experience. Robbie

  • True and magical, i m not a budhist but chanting nam myoho renge kyo gives me calm and inner smiles.

  • the most greatest and universal religion

so try this. make your live more complete and peacefull....

  • .... Robby can you tell us what this beautiful music is in the background please?

  • its form a cd I bought at the music store! :-)

  • .... of the practice and SGI in the beginning and first couple years believe me, but the practice has proven to work time and time again when I went to prove it wrong lol, and until the SGI does me wrong, I will enjoy the fellowship.

  • Great video, great information about the law, practice and philosophy. I've been a member of SGI since 2003. I have only experienced good things with this organization and have been treated with love and respect. I've seen my leaders' sincere care for the members and seen the organization do good things in community. I was skeptical a little bit....

  • Thanks for sharing this info,I found it very useful and helps me in the way towards understanding nam myoho renge kyo.

  • it is :

    na-mu-myo-ho-ren-ge-kyo

    believe me

  • Thank you, Robie! I have a friend from Brighton who was asking me to explain something about Nitiren´s Buddism and you video gave all at the same time, as I am just a begginer in this practice.

Nam Myoho Renge Kyo from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

  • Chanting nam myoho renge kyo, study and sharing the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, can lead anyone to enghlightment in one lifetime

  • Thank you. May your path be blessed.

  • Hey Robbie, Continue on chanting no matter what. If you're getting comments saying that you're not practicing correctly, don't listen to them at all.

If you're confused about why such comments are occurring, you can go visit your local culture center and attend Soka Spirit meetings to understand more about the history of this Buddhist practice and how all of us are chanting to fight for justice or you can go visit the soka spirit website by googling it.

WE WILL PROVE JUSTICE ON APRIL 24! =)

  • Hiii wonderful video, I'm a SGI member from Spain!

  • hey robbie ,goo job!,don´t pay attention, that guy is not a well buddhist, this people from Nirchren Shoshu get me tired, they´re don´t stop of complaining .

please people give us a break, and go to chant!,greetings from argentina!

  • Hey Robbie! I can relate with you about trying to keep up with the others when doing gongyo. That is our first challenge as fellow buddhist (lol) therefore, they say rejoice. Your explanation is excellent. Keep up the great work by sharing with others (kosen rufu). I believe that you you tube entries will shakabuku many. :) Fellow buddhist SGI-USA Irivington, NJ

  • hello my friend my name is mark im new to Buddhist meditation i was wondering if you knew where i can find meditation beeds like what you have

  • go to sgi international, there will be a link, enjoy

  • Keep up the good work my fellow SGI member.. I also pray for KOSEN-RUFU.. by the way i'm from Philippines.. Keep on practicing, studying, have faith and do shakubuku.. ^_^ NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO.....

  • hi there love the vidio can you please tell me where i can get these beeds

  • look up s g i international,...theyll have a link-good luck, friend

  • You need get defensive- the FACT that the original temple in Japan has excommunicated with SGI should be enough. The head temple does not produce the gohanzan you have- I know- I HAD one from SGI as well- it is easy to see the difference- you will receive benefit- but inverse relationship as well- My friend that introduced me to Nirchren Shoshu Buddhism has been practising since he was a child and knows first hand about SGI- That is why SGI is NOT invited to Tozan- chant about it-

  • @rawbuddhist

open your eyes.. how many years did you spend to study SGI Buddhism.. Your mind has been poisoned by those priest.. SGI excommunicated because of jealousy and greediness.. study more about SGI.. does NICHIREN SHOSHU says all the thuth about SGI?.. how many years do you practice buddhism?.. come on.. if you will ask me how many years i have been practicing and studying buddhism then my answer is "i been born as a buddhist and will die as a buddhist.

  • well lucky you.....ive been practicing 25 years and i rejoice whenever someone new shows interest. i was born lutheran and soon discovered that it wasnt for me. buddhism is the key that i was missing. i am ever so grateful to have found my way.

  • Do your research

  • I have. I know what I see, and I know what I have experienced.

Someone who tells me to read wikipedia, which isnt even fact, a lot of it is full of bulldust.

I received my gohonzon today and I have seen real proof that this practice works.

I have received nothing but love and support from the people of SGI.

Thank you for trying to convince me, but the proof is in the pudding as we say here in England.

Until I see a reason not to be part of SGI I will continue to work towards kosen rufu

  • Robbie- I realise you don't understand- and I was trying to inform you- you can even look it up on wikipedia- you have no idea what you are talking about- SGI was excommunicated by the HEAD priest in Japan- I suggest YOU do your resreach before telling me it is nonsense- I have been researchingnthis for 5 years. Don't be blind.

  • Maybe it's the HEAD priest who is wrong.

  • Whoa.. those eyes of yours.. haven't seen clearer eyes!

  • Thank you :-)

  • Hello RobbieBoy,

please be careful, I was introduced to Buddhism from SGI, I even received my Gohanzan, anyway, it didn't feel right for some reason, I stopped chanting, I prayed to get clarity- and manifested my friend, (who knew true Buddhism) The head temple in Japan excommunicated SGI from the temple- therefore because the do not practise properly- please be careful! I learned the hard way- SGI does not have true Gohanzans- they are conterfit!

  • You need to read about why SGI is the way forward and what you have said is utter non-sense

  • very well done. I needed to know more because I think it is important to chant me
