@johnnybio1 Update your drivers. If it still doesn't work, then re-install it. If it doesn't work still, update hardware. Still doesn't work? 2 bad suckah get a hole new PC.
Does anyone have some suggestions for some of the best games made in Unity out there? I'd like to see some! I'd be keen to see some simple games, and some with more atmosphere and details, in terms of graphics and sound and gameplay complexity. Cheers! :-)
@marcopiresventura As far as modeling goes Blender is plenty powerful if you know how to handle it. Maya and Max are powerful tools beyond just modeling - stuff that branches into cinema and tech demos like animation, production stage, rendering, etc. Blender's a decent tool for animation too. Otherwise Cinema4D might also be a good alternative, given it's much cheaper than Max or Maya
@dubravajecentar You don't put ideas on kickstarter. You put up proof of concept, if you can't make that on the free version just forget about getting any donations.
@dubravajecentar How about before you get pro, you start developing on the free basic version. Maybe if you have a cool concept ready on PC you can sign up on kickstarter before you do anything for mobile platforms.
Hey guys, check out my channel, we are a small and new indie game company working on a new mmorpg, we are looking for feedback on the website, and on Saturday May 28th, feedback on the actual progress. So, just click my name!
Hey , I'm getting started in unity and trying to create a "decent" FPS, or simply to be able to make a game where you can walk around an island or building or such. I followed older version's tutorials, but there's a required "Prefab" called "FPS Controller" which doesn't appear in the new version. Instead I can only seem to find "FPS Controls" or "FPS Tilt Controls". If possible, could anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.
@linkrock4 Practice make's perfect , start of by making small games with just cubes & spheres then go bigger by recreating a classic game that's allready made the once you improve your skills go from there!!! key thing is to learn how to program tho!
@MrRik338 Shadows is a big thing!!! Unity Technology's need money so they can keep keep popping our more material and version of unity, so imo that's why :S i would love shadows in the free version too but that would give people another reason not to buy the pro version :S
@greenmahidol * Windows: XP SP2 or later; Mac OS X: Intel CPU & "Leopard" 10.5 or later. Note that Unity was not tested on server versions of Windows and OS X. * Graphics card with 64 MB of VRAM and pixel shaders or 4 texture units. Any card made in this millennium should work. * Using Occlusion Culling requires GPU with Occlusion Query support (some Intel GPUs do not support that). * The rest only depends on the complexity of your projects!.
@greenmahidol well, the GAME when builded can run on a windows 98 on a 1997 computer, belive me the computer cant load internet explorer in less than a minute, but the games runs smoothly with 70 frames on lowest grapfics and 12 frames on high, as we talk as the engine itself it CAN run and install on the computer but there are a few errors, i think they are because of the glich in .Net 2.0 for windows 98, but im not sure. but atleast 98% of the computers these days shoud be able to run both.bai
I am beginner in programming, and I want to design a couple games just to test where exactly I am. Is Unity a great place to start? Is it C#? Is it open? How much will I have to invest for a "Pro" version of it? If the "Lite" version is free?
@vstman sorry, only basic lighmapping, cloth physics and source debugging will be in the free version. Shadows, Reflections, occlusion Culling, post processing effects and deferred lighting are Pro only. That also includes the audio filters too. =(.
@Hemiogenic Yeah i know lol =) sry i meant how does anyone make a game like this!!! Must be so time consuming. I'm thinking about getting into game design but i fear it would mean i'd never leave the house
@Pulsed101 game engines like this decrease development time and coding knowledge required but any game will be limited first and foremost by the materials you have to work with. Indie developers tend not to have the time, money or talent to create the resources a truly good game needs. If they did, they'd be working professionally already.
Ps: Most 'good' games even with an existing engine will take you a year or more for anything worth while: 3d models, textures, sounds, particle effects, etc
@emonub Ummm ive seen some beautiful stuff come from Indie Developers , soo don't say they don't have talent, Money is the problem not the talent... and don't compare indie developers to some 15 16 year old kid that don't know anything about making games...
@Hemiogenic Don't get me wrong. There are some INCREDIBLY talented indie developers. The fact remains though that the chances of an indie developer having the time, money and talent to create their materials to a high level of quality is rather low. That's why I'm saying that in MANY (not all) cases, the resources, not the game engine is the limiting factor to graphics. If you know what you are doing, chances are you can squeeze a hell of a lot of performance from most engines.
As far as Im concerned at the unity website they said that the end of summer is somewhere "before the last week of september" So about a month left :(
@imangekyo I'm pretty sure I read it in a gabe newell quote or something like that. I'm really certain it's in a steamworks article, though. It really does depend on the publisher and distributor, though. The store-shelf technique has never been a great strategy, and designers make a lot more money from digital distribution, even if they lose 40-60% in royalties. You just have to make certain you are getting advertising somewhere.
The engine looks damn powerful, but everything I've seen with it looks like pre-rendered 90's game cutscenes. Not at all bad, but a bit cheesy. Can you edit the shader properties in this version?
this is getting really stupid, they tell us it will be released in the summer, and what, you guys are gonna say, "ohh, technically summer ends in september" but i dont care, summer ends when school starts as far as anyones concerned, and there not gonna realease it for anohter 4 months probubly anyway, the least they could have done was not lie about the release date
@dendeney Stop whining. This tool is amazing, and their marketing strategy is absolutely stunning. I've never seen such a good tool with as much in the free package as it has.
We will release it in the technical summer to be sure! Of course we had hoped to have it out a month ago, but making good software isn't easy. At least the delay in release has given more people the chance to pre-order at the 20% discounted rate and gain access to the pre-release builds.
@imangekyo It is important to note that ANY kind of game can be distributed through steamworks, and not just Source SDK games. They will accept anything that has a setup and application executable, so you can distribute and sell your Unity 3D games through steam via the steamworks program as well.
Note that steam takes a bit of a royalty out of every sale, but it's not bad compared to what the retail industry would pay out... (The developer only makes about $7.99 out of every boxed $60 game.)
@imangekyo Also, note that it's best to distribute your game through multiple avenues. Distributing through the Google Chrome Store, Steamworks, and three or four other distributors is probably the best way to go to maximize your profits. (I would recommend Wiiware, the PS3 Store, and XBLive Community network as well)
@BoyzNTheHoodSadEndin Good luck with that. Publishing to any platform other than PC (By the way, your logic is exactly why publishing to PC won't make you much money to begin with. "It's a stupid Indy game. Why should I pay for that?") Iphone/Android/Wii/Xbox/PS3 are going to be your REAL audiences for consumption anyway, and you HAVE to pay in order to launch on those platforms.
@volkerball34 lol Wrong Channel much? btw you click on a script and hit the delete button on keyboard or you right click the script and click delete ;)

This looks impressive. I can't spell to even half of those lighting techniques.
Now do a wedge primitive.
No modelling - just a primitive wedge. Maybe one spotlight too so that we can see it.
No? Maybe a pyramid then? Not a cone - just a four-sided pyramid.
A simple quad (using only two polygons), perhaps?
No?

@dubravajecentar First of all - there are already hundfred and thousand of people out there in the world with better ideas than you.
Remember if you are the best - There is always going to be better.
If you know how to use Unity or any other Game Engine and if you coding - you wouldn't be here asking such a question.
If you don't know how to use it then first learn to use it and then think of money - Developing Game need Passion for it - Not passion for money.

TSDREX 11 months ago
@TSDREX Sure.. Save up some money and buy the Hero Engine license.
jcodbf2 11 months ago
@TSDREX If you want to learn how to make games than take coding classes and learn to code first and how to write scripts.
That is all and also if you want to design terrains and stuff- Learn to use Blender or Maya - Or any kind of graphic designing software.
Blender is free in case you were wondering but maya is not.
If you really want to make games first learn these two things or at least get a beginner concept of what it is.

@BYONDTer13 ty for the tip, we planned that out before hand, we are currently making the game actually.

@BYONDTer13 shit, where did u find out that 7.99 out of 60 retail thing. it would really be helpful
imangekyo 1 year ago
@imangekyo Also, note that it's best to distribute your game through multiple avenues. Distributing through the Google Chrome Store, Steamworks, and three or four other distributors is probably the best way to go to maximize your profits. (I would recommend Wiiware, the PS3 Store, and XBLive Community network as well)

@Hemiogenic just saying you can't afford it either.
