I like the series... I also liked the movies. (Before you claim that I'll accept ANYTHING that has "Addams" on it, I HATED "The NEW Addams Family" and the Addams Family cartoon where they tried to "scare America first" really got on my nerves. (The later cartoon with the uptight couple next door and their kid who enjoyed living next to the Addams's was pretty decent.)
With most families on TV in that age, you wondered if the kids came by stork. With Gomez and Mortitica, you're more surprised they only had two! Years of marriage, kids, a large family living withy them, and they're still all over each other like teenagers!
See, my preference for the old TV show is not as much due to the writing as due to the absolute perfection of John Astin and Carolyn Jones. I love the comic strip and the movie for their humor, but nothing could ever meet the expectations set by these two fantastic leads.
Carolyn as Morticia Addams was also one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
Tom Lehrer's classic comic song "Masochism Tango" first released in '59 surprises me. How did they allow such a song to be performed when it's clearly about s and m and a guy who enjoys being abused lol the lyrics were bold stuff for the time. But it works with Gomez and Morticia who enjoyed a bit of an s and m relationship, who were unusual and passionate/playful (other couples of the time were nothing like them). And they loved to tango! They would have definitely danced the Masochism Tango
@crazyloverofcats Ironically and unfortunately the so called "new" version of The Addams Family, made into movies in the decade of the 90's are now considered "old" outdated and not "new" at all. They even call it a classic. The first one was from about 1991 or 1992 which makes it about 20 years ago. I myself was 13 then
Lovely video, I simply adore this couple. Though I feel I should say, you call yourself a "purist" for not liking the darkness of the movies. However before there was a tv show there was a comic strip. And it held this same dark grittiness. In fact the only reason the tv show didn't was likely do to censorship at the time simply not allowing it.
@bubblegum1366 I am familiar with the comic strip. However, I grew up with the original television series, and my loyalties still lie with it. The strip still had a more quirky feel than the color films, which is why I don't gripe about it--and because it inspired the show--but I didn't, personally, find the same atmosphere between the comic strip and films. But that's just my own opinion.
Lovely video! I'm not a purist (I quite like the movies), but Astin and Jones are my favorite Gomez and Morticia. As dark as they were, I think everyone can learn from their romance. I love that they actually, you know, loved each other and showed affection.
I, too, am an Addams purist, so you are definitely not alone! The new Broadway Musical captures the feeling quite well, better than the movies IMO. Still, the television show is and always be the benchmark of all Addams productions. Thank you for this wonderful video! I LOVE it! :D
@MadMadameMe "Call me a purist, but I grew up on the show and its innocent quirkiness drew me in. I'm just not fond of the darker, hard-edged new versions." OMG another purist exists! You took the words right out of my mouth! I was just discussing why I dislike the movies with a friend the other day; the show was THE BEST nothing else matched up to it!
This is absolutely fantastic!! I am very glad that in 2010/2011 there are still people with a wider perspective and a touch of class A classic Gothic art <3. Darkest blessings for the uploader.
Fabulous....simply wonderful. This captures so much of the Addams Family charisma and sexiness. Remember at this time on TV, no other married couples showed so much flirtation for each other.
@Kuuper111 oh sorry I mean the scene before that in the kitchen with gomez in a different suite and morticia wearing that had. and a tthe moment gomez kisses her arm that woman enters the room.
Bravo! This is a fantastic edit! From a Tom Lehrer fan, having heard his "Elements" song in chemistry class 30 years ago, I can only imagine the hours it took to find the scenes that work with the song. Excellent work!
@PurpleMaster958Two I believe it's the "The Addams Family Tree", right after Lurch takes Pugsley and Wednesday to the birthday party. Hope that helps.
@jammingirl90 I want to say that it's from The Addams Family Goes to School, but I'm probably wrong. I'll go through my footage and see if I can find out.
@MadMadameMe You were right about the episode. I rewatched it and found the scene. I just didn't remember seeing it b/c it was the first episode & I'm into season 2 now. Thanks =)
I grew up on The Addams Family and also Tom Lehrer, but never made the connection. This is like seeing....it's like they were each made just to create this video. (I'm watching it for the third time, and have already put it onto Facebook and Twitter)
Just heard this song on a video with clips from the movie and found a link to this version. While the movies (the ones with Raul, that is) will always be favorites, I keep finding myself going back to the tv show when I'm in an "Addams" kind of mood. There's just something so pure and authentic about Gomez/Morticia that never fades. It's like every encounter is their first.
Thank you for combining my favorite song with my favorite show. =)
The movies were okay, but no one could ever truly replace John Astin and Carolyn Jones. I have this entire series on DVD, and never get tired of watching it. They made a TV movie with John and Carolyn, too; but I don't remember the title or if it's on DVD. As a rule, I don't like remakes...that's my main beef about the newer (Addams Family) movies. How do you top the originals? These people were great! What chemistry. Thanks for posting.
Geez, this song was practically MADE for Gomez and Morticia - passionate, head over heels for one another, and extremely kinky. I'm amazed and delighted that they slipped past the censors.
@Darkangelrock92 As a kid, I used to want to grow up to be Morticia. She's so elegant and refined. She and Gomez are the most amazingly cute couple EVER.
Because of you and this video, I'm now looking up the original series on Netflix and catching up on all this fun I missed out on in those years before I was born.
@HeyRoriRose I'm touched. <3 That is quite possibly the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. Thank you so much. I'm very happy I could help introduce you to such a great show.
Genuis!!! The song is perfect, the clips are perfect, this IS gomez and morticia's song! I totally agree with your comment about the movies, they focus more on the dark side and not the innocent happy (though quirky) life in the family. The family is perfect in Black and white because they are black and white. I didn't even grow up with them, I just discovered them this year!
Just simply beautiful!I believe,in my opinion, that GomezxMorticia is the most supported marital (married) couple.<3 How beautiful this is.GomezxMorticia is such a passionate couple, they don't even need to lip-lock.<3 <3
@PsychicMantha This is very true. There's a scene in at least one of the movies where they full-out kiss, and a little part of me died inside because it was so wrong. You never see them do it! It's blasphemy, I say.
@MadMadameMe Your welcome.=) I think they also do that in The New Addams Family as well.=( Thats one of the things I dislike about The New Addams Family. The regular Addams Family (and the 1992 cartoon,in my opinion as well) were awesome!=)

Yeah I can relate to you. I grew up in the 90s where every weekend was Addams Family cartoon time, so I guess I'm more attached to the 90s movie & cartoons more than any other versions.
Loved the video! You're right; the original is something that cannot be topped. All the new Gomez and Morticia pairs are appalling. The originals had a zesty chemistry that jumped off the screen.
Oh i found the whip scene-it's from the episode where Wednesday runs away
The musical stars Bebe Neureth and Nathan Lane and Morticia and Gomez. It opened today (i think) in Chicago. It will open on Broadway sometime in the spring of next year- i think April. It has been getting really good reviews.
Let's see...the whips, I believe, are in the episode where Pugsly and Wednesday go to school, and Gomez wears the knight's armor in the episode where Morticia's old boyfriend comes to visit.
This is true. And, as if the situation isn't bad enough already, you have to spend the next five minutes wiping it off your shoe (or, even worse, foot) on the nearby grass, cement or little brother. It's just not a happy thing for anybody.
Exactly. Except for retards who think the movies are better than the original. I've known people who at first thought so, until they actually watched the series. Which they hadn't.
love the old series, but, love anjelica huston best as morticia. she is HAWT! i want a man like gomez. in the 1st movie, when she says, "last nite you were unhinged, you were like some desperate, howling demon. you frightened me. do it again" is my all time fav movie line.
It is funny, but there's a certain innocent charm to the older series that isn't in the movies. That, and the color really kind of makes me twitch. But I'm glad you like the movies.
That, and the actors/characters are far more vivid and real in the TV series. Their movie counterparts pale by comparison... Gomez: "Tish, when you speak French..." TIsh: "Gomez, darling, the children..." Gomez: "Let them get their own!!"
@MadMadameMe Me too. Them never kissing made it more enticing; the full on lip locks in recent versions completely destroyed everything. Besides, Gomez kissing his wife up and down her body is a sight in and of itself.
I'm not sure if you want the part where Morticia starts smoking (New Neighbors Meet the Addams Family--Volume One, Disk One) or the French maid getup (Mother Lurch Visits the Addams Family--Volume One, Disk Three). Hope that helps!
Great video! I love the Addams Family! I don't know the song "Masochism Tango" this is the 1st time I heard of it...who is the artist? Who sings it ? Is it available on CD somewhere ?
It's by Tom Lehrer. It's on "Dr. Demento 20th Anniversary Collection: The Greatest Novelty Records of All Time" (Disc 2). I'm pretty sure there are places you can download it, though.
What makes this video so perfect is the music and the show are from the same time period. In this way, as well as their dark humor, they compliment each other.
The Addams Family Goes to School. They're talking about their honeymoon, "in that divine cave!", and then they hear Lurch at the piano and go to be with the family.
This is how I discovered you, dear friend - through this tribute. And it's still one of my most favorite tributes to The Addams Family - more properly, Morticia and Gomez..
Still my favorite from you - next to the one you made for OtherBrother09/42. I have it on authority that he's very pleased and considers you a very good friend.
This is the best Gomez and Morticia tribute I've seen! Well done.

That's it!
Well, then, I must discover the soundtrack to this play and feast upon it.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
which episodes are the whip scenes- when Morticia wraps herself in it...and when Gomez is wearing the knight's armor?
Luv this vid by the way!!!!! They are my favorite TV couple!
carogirlyaya 2 years ago
Let's see...the whips, I believe, are in the episode where Pugsly and Wednesday go to school, and Gomez wears the knight's armor in the episode where Morticia's old boyfriend comes to visit.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
Thanks! Did you mean the pilot episode for when Pugsly an Wednesday go to school?

I saw The Addams Family Musical recently. It was spectacular and more like the original. And the tango was phenomonal of course. :D

There's a musical? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS!?
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
No the musical is nothing like the original series. It was more close to an accurate adaptation of Charles Addams' comics.

Adding color to the Addams is like stepping on dog poo. You wish it didn't happen. But it did. Unfortunately.

This is true. And, as if the situation isn't bad enough already, you have to spend the next five minutes wiping it off your shoe (or, even worse, foot) on the nearby grass, cement or little brother. It's just not a happy thing for anybody.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
Exactly. Except for retards who think the movies are better than the original. I've known people who at first thought so, until they actually watched the series. Which they hadn't.

@KitsuneLexi12 LOL!

love the old series, but, love anjelica huston best as morticia. she is HAWT! i want a man like gomez. in the 1st movie, when she says, "last nite you were unhinged, you were like some desperate, howling demon. you frightened me. do it again" is my all time fav movie line.
GabrielsVoice 2 years ago
It is funny, but there's a certain innocent charm to the older series that isn't in the movies. That, and the color really kind of makes me twitch. But I'm glad you like the movies.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
That, and the actors/characters are far more vivid and real in the TV series. Their movie counterparts pale by comparison... Gomez: "Tish, when you speak French..." TIsh: "Gomez, darling, the children..." Gomez: "Let them get their own!!"
iowa61 2 years ago
"Tish, you spoke French!"
Also, I love that they never actually full-on kiss. It's endearing and cute.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
@MadMadameMe Me too. Them never kissing made it more enticing; the full on lip locks in recent versions completely destroyed everything. Besides, Gomez kissing his wife up and down her body is a sight in and of itself.
darkseaofempathy 2 years ago 4
Oh yes, yes it was. And still is. I'd say it's my pick for the best television kiss.

Wonderful song! What is it??
Tali999 2 years ago
It's "Masochism Tango" by Tom Lehrer. I'm glad you like it. It's so perfect for them.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
LOVED it! thanks :)
Tali999 2 years ago
This was wonderful! I liked it so much more than the edits from the movies. I agree, it should not be shot in color.
Nothing can match the TV series!
DonsVideoWorld 2 years ago
It would be like watching Young Frankenstein in color. What is that tom-foolery?
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

barybear96 2 years ago
I'm not sure if you want the part where Morticia starts smoking (New Neighbors Meet the Addams Family--Volume One, Disk One) or the French maid getup (Mother Lurch Visits the Addams Family--Volume One, Disk Three). Hope that helps!
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
Great video! I love the Addams Family! I don't know the song "Masochism Tango" this is the 1st time I heard of it...who is the artist? Who sings it ? Is it available on CD somewhere ?
AmericanEvita 2 years ago
Glad you like it!

XNowIsThatGratitudeX 2 years ago
They share the same media tone, with the heavy emphasis on strings and very simple instrumental effects. Yay, I'm so glad you like it!
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
which episode is from 1:13 to 1:26?
ratoot20072000 2 years ago
The Addams Family Goes to School. They're talking about their honeymoon, "in that divine cave!", and then they hear Lurch at the piano and go to be with the family.

This is how I discovered you, dear friend - through this tribute. And it's still one of my most favorite tributes to The Addams Family - more properly, Morticia and Gomez..
AlicePleasanceL 2 years ago
Aw, thanks. Gomez and Morticia need more loving.
MadMadameMe 2 years ago
Indeed they do. You take one, I'll take the other. Timeless characters, truly.

Still my favorite from you - next to the one you made for OtherBrother09/42. I have it on authority that he's very pleased and considers you a very good friend.

Aw thanks. I was really surprised no one had done the television show to this song before, which was why I had to do one.
