Thank you for this i had Lasik about a year ago and i got to go back to have one again although the surgeon is undecided as to do Lasik or Lasek this time round at least i know what Lasek involves now many thanks again x
Not only did he removed your flap (which will never grow back) but he also painfully scraped it off instead of using a cutting tool to simply move it to the side!
@JohnyK07 umm he actually was scraping off the alcohol that you saw him pour on...it solidified and he scraped it off gently because it turned into a gel-like substance :) and yes the other person is right, youre desribing lasik where they use a blade
@kkabline94 What? Alcohol??!! Are we even talking about the same substance?
2 things everybody knows about (or should):
First, poured alcohol doesn't solidify! In fact it evaporates very quickly, it's highly volatile!
And second, you should never pour alcohol in the eyes!! That's crazy! Try that and see what happens! (do NOT really try it, ok? I was just making a point: it will burn like hell!)
@JohnyK07 i dunno its some kind of substance with a bit of alcohol in it or something, but i read it off some site before, maybe im wrong. whatever it is, its simply a sterilising agent. and alcohol is only volatile at high temperatures.
jesus christ, im having this done next friday. AHHHHH!!. I am glad he's talking, despite the fact that its complete sh*t - but the scraping!!! OMFG the scraping!!.
@Ronin2828 Had my Lasek proceedure with Ultralase just under 2 weeks ago and it was the best decision of my life. The pain was virtually no existent. Aside from 6 or 7 hours of stinging afterward so I'd recommend having this done on a Friday morning or something. My Vision is FANTASTIC!!, better than 20/10 - though it was only 20/30 - 20/40 before. I'm totally stoked.
Why do you call that a LASEK? It's not... the flap that he took of and threw away were ment to be dragged to the side, and then put over the "wound" after the laser were done, and then a protective lense should be added. This is a failed LASEK... making it a PRK. It's not the end of the world, but it's more dangerous while healing.
@grijper12 That's LASIK...a different method of doing the procedure, and more risky as well, with more potential issues later such as halo's and poor night vision. LASEK is what eye surgeons get done to themselves if having Laser Eye Surgery.
Im 2 weeks out and still cant see 20/20 and was completely blurry the first 4 days but Lasek not Lasik was my only option since my vision was so bad. They said it was a lot longer of a healing time but better in the long run.

omg when he was scraping the thing off ur eye it looked like ur eye was going to pop or someting he looked like he was pushing really hard on it ewe i hope ur eyesights better now :)
I see you had your surgery quite log time ago. How do you feel now? What about your vision now? Is it still perfect? Or maybe you had to visit your doctor because of some uncomfortability and so on?
American Medical Association, Report of the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs: Physicians should not offer financial incentives or other valuable consideration to patients in exchange for recruitment of other patients. Such incentives can distort the information that patients provide to potential patients, thus distorting the expectations of potential patients and compromising the trust that is the foundation of the patient physician relationship.
Yeah - except I don't really care about the incentive. I would tell you if Dr. Chynn was a bad doctor - He's a little aloof and somewhat odd - but as an eye surgeon he's pretty top notch. I had dry eye for a while, but Dr. Chynn gave me a permanent punctual plug that has worked wonders. I would certainly recommend him financial incentive or not...trust me, even with the discount - if he fucked up my eyes, you'd know about it :) - I see great..20/20...and recommend Dr. Chynn :)
how did it feel when you did that? like how did it feel when they pulled you eye open with those tweaser like things? im not thinking about getting lasek but contacts instead....
In PRK the epithelium is removed (it grows back). In LASEK a very thin flap (@ 50um) is created in the epithieal layer (as opposed to the 100-150um flap in the stroma for LASIK), but the flap is placed back on the eye.
There is nothing "wrong" with PRK. It is generally performed on patients whose corneas are too thin for LASIK. The drawback is the possibility of infection and the long, uncomfortable recovery time while the epithelium grows back.
OK, I should clarify here after a little more research into the subject. This is an *attempted* LASEK procedure which ended up as a PRK. Alcohol solution was used to loosen the epithium, indicating LASEK. According to what I have read, if the epithelium does not come up intact, it is removed and the procedure becomes a PRK. This is standard procedure for LASEK, not a "mistake". The attempt was made, but was not successful so in essence this ended up being a PRK procedure.
How serious of an attempt was made to lift an intact flap is another matter, something only the surgeon can answer. If I were considering such a procedure I would definitely ask the surgeon what percentage of his LASEK surgeries end up as PRKs - since it seems the LASEK protocol calls only for an *attempt* at lifting the flap. Not to cast dispersions, but there are a number of LASEK surgery videos posted here from patients of this doctor - all I have seen show PRK results.
Ugh....you people are morons. It's a combination of Lasek and PRK. In Lasek there is a flap created, and in PRK it is totally removed, but unlike PRK, there is an alcohol solution used in my procedure...it is neither one nor the other, it was advertised as "lasek" and so that's the title of the video even though then entire epithelium is removed. On another note, I'm seeing better than 20/20 now, so who cares what procedure it was!
You had surgery on YOUR EYES and don't even know what you had done. And you are calling other people "morons"? I'm glad your surgery went well, but please try to be a little more polite toward those who are trying to wade through all the disinformation out there - including yours.
Do you get a discount for having him teach while doing the procedure?

There was no blade - that little hockey stick thing removed the flap - a blade is much different and kind of scary - google it for a photo.
