Thanks for checking it out! About the capo, check the video of the spanish concerts. He had two guitars, one tuned up 1.5 steps-no capos to be seen on "William" or anything else (though he did have someone tune one guitar to an open chord for "Headmaster Ritual". I think he wrote most of his songs open then tuned up to accommodate the vocal.
Hey - I'm trying to learn your very very awesome version here, but I'm stuck at the third chord - you've put it down as an Em7, I can see you've got a bar chord on the 7th (9th) fret, but then I'm lost and it won't sound right. 'elp, 'elp please :)
I never thought I'd see anyone work this entire song out, it sounds so complex, I met Johnny Marr some years back and asked him about this, he just grinned and said, work it out, that'll make you better, and I guess you did mate! and are!
wow, you could see the glow on your face at the end, that was really really good mate, im a massive smiths fan, youve done them proud mate, thanks for posting, all the best ;)
I tell you what mate, ive watched a lot of people on youtube trying to play this song. i think you're the only one who's come anywhere near it. nice one

Chords sans capo: Verse: Fadd9 CM7 Em7 Am7 (3x) Fadd9 FM7 C Em7 FM7 G6 Gsus4 AM7 A7 Am7 CM7 D6add9 (2x) Bridge: Fsus4 F Gsus4 G F G Chorus: F C F G Am Am(maj7) F C F G Am Am(maj7) Am7 D9
Wanted to add: The chords above are 1 whole step lower than the recording-it was likely composed this way. Use a capo to play in tune with the record (In other words the capo makes the first chord, Fadd9 become a Gadd9, etc.).
Thanks for watching. It's not the chords, but the fast strumming I found hard. They always played it slower live than on the record. As for the intro part, Marr appeared to be using these voicings in a video I saw of the Spanish tour (blurry, but I could see where his hands were on the neck).
Nice, my nostrils would have been flared wide open if I was playing that, its one of those uncontrollable reflexes when playing something challenging. You're lucky you don't have that problem. Next vid should be you singing the Morrissey part a capella. That would be sweet
beautiful song. Johnny Marr rocks!

The look on your face as you try to replicate speaks volumes about the talent that is Johnny Marr.

Wow. Just incredible. How on earth Marr came up with that song is beyond me! If I could give you 6 STARS I would... but 5 will just have to do.

Right on - when you throw the percussion in and 'lock in the beat' - it's totally different sounding. Genius by Marr.

Thanks for watching. The guitar was a gift from my father-it's a 30 year old Taiwanese Yamaha FG-340.
Thanks again, Dad!

that was really good. The lead was good too. There's a much easier way to play those intro chords
